Love, love, LOVE the folks at Volta. I went to visit them in Michigan when I had a problem that turned out to be not their issue and they still spent 5 hours running it down. I've had several conversations with them since then whenever I've had questions; they are very responsive. True statement: even if I were to build my own RV from the ground up I would take it to them for the electrical system, that's how much I believe in their product. I just wish dealers knew how to properly explain/sell the lithium Travatos! Its embarrassing when I know more than they do. Another great video!

Update 1 month later. Our RV dealer tried to diagnose the problem. They had never worked on the Pure3 system, even though they had sold several of them. They bought a laptop, then special cabling, and worked with technicians at Winnebago. Winnebago sent them to Volta. Volta had them send the Pure3 computer and other equipment. It turns out the computer was OK but, a faulty switch was not allowing the system to charge. It worked on a 1 week trip in Colorado. Next up, a 1 month trip to Oregon & Washington State.

Most people want to run AC to keep comfortable 24/7. The thing is, those cheap roof top AC units are very innofiecent. So, if you could change out you roof top AC to a mini split super efienct AC with a variable compressor speeds that will run the system approx. @ 320 watts to maintain comfort. So, if you could get about 700 watts of solar, and those panels had full sun exposure to the sun (no trees or shade). You could easily run your AC and everything else in your van with a 6~8 bank of lithium 100 amp batteries (storage) without spending money on gas. As mentiontioned it's hard to get 700 watts of solar on a 20 foot RAM promaster 159 WB roof.

Scott, I watched the video where you interviewed Volta (Buck??), and there were a couple of questions I wasn't sure if they were asked or not>>> 1) Does Volta/Winnebago have an upgrade path to go higher than the standard 200ah system? 2) Will the Pure3 system eventually be installed in Class RVs like their Navion/View? Let me know if that was covered in any of your interviews or research with regard to Volta Power Systems. Thanks in advance.
@gosmall.livelarge4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mr. Lee. No upgrade path that I’m aware of. Both companies are tight lipped as to what RVs come next with Volta. Great questions !
@leehooligan4 жыл бұрын
@@gosmall.livelarge Scott, thanks for the reply. I have a friend of mine I've been helping to convert his Sprinter van into a fulltime living van and he wasn't impressed with the current power systems being sold in the Class B space, so decided to build out his own since he loves to boondock in remote areas for a couple of weeks at a time. He just installed 6x 100ah Battleborn lithium batteries, 600watts of solar, all run through some pretty sophisticated BMS, inverter and distribution system. I'm sure Volta and other companies are racing to get this into the RV space as quickly as the engineering can make sense and work without potential warranty failures. Otherwise, that could get costly real quick. On another note, one thing my friend also built was an endless shower by recirculating the grey water through a multi-stage filtering system back into a fresh tank. I know there are no RV makers doing endless shower systems(maybe AdvancedRV). So the question is, have you thought about having a system like that in your build? Perhaps something that you can get upgraded still? That would be a cool topic to cover.
@gosmall.livelarge4 жыл бұрын

Hi Greg. I understand you leaning toward camper van and also debating on travel trailer with your truck. Question regarding the Volta App. Assuming the app tells you how much "battery time" is remaining based on full discharge of the battery, can you set a "false floor" to indicate you don't want the battery to discharge anymore than 20% as your "full discharge floor" and have the app return to you how much remaining time you have based on discharge to 20% of new set floor of the battery?

The charge rate varies with the state of charge of the Volta batteries and the engine RPM. In our experience, with Volta battery under 40% charge, we get 7,000to 9,000 watts charging our Volta system at 3,000 to 3,7000 engine RPM. Over 2,300 RPM we charge at over 3,500 watts. The charge drops to near 0 when engine RPM goes over 4,000ish RPM.

thx for bringin this up, Kevin. Electric heat when plugged into shore power for temps 50 degrees F and above works GREAT. However, below temps in the 40s F and below require a better source of heat. While a Volta system can run for many hours, I our daily out the hard way that eletric heat is more taxing than propane-based heat. SO, I’m glad my Travato GL offers options for furnace delivered heat. The best option I discovered is propane sourced heat through the Truma Combi forced air furnace . hope that helps
