To those who want promotion and relegation established in MLS or the USL, look at the comments about San Diego finally getting an MLS team as a reason why pro/rel will never happen. Americans don't support their sports teams unless they are in the "major leagues" like the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA.
@jemazondo9331 Жыл бұрын
Americans have college sports. So that’s where that energy goes. Someone in LA watches Lakers as their pro team and then USC as their semi-pro team. We would rather watch USC vs UCLA than two 2nd League teams
@marshallcraft25 Жыл бұрын
Fr all these San Diego natives prolly don’t even support Loyal 😂
@oggiggs Жыл бұрын
They absolutely do, as long as there's not another major league team in town. Tons of towns even support minor league teams that are specifically affiliated with major league teams as a feeder system, especially in baseball. The hottest ticket in Toledo are the Mudhens and Walleye, both explicitly minor league teams
@joshuah.6095 Жыл бұрын
Ahhh to defend a billionaire boys club. Yeah, if there was a possibility to make it to the "major league" by merit (not paying a fee to get a franchise like McDonalds) I'm sure americans would support their teams.

No way San Diego can support three teams. Everyone currently "rooting" for San Diego Loyal will hop on the San Diego FC bandwagon in 2025 thus causing San Diego Loyal and Albion San Diego to fold... just like when St. Louis FC folded after everyone deserted that club for St. Louis City SC.

What happened was LA/NY bias. SD is a suburb of LA, they weren't about to give it to Sacramento, a city that was ready a decade ago. They'd rather have three teams near LA than two in Northern California
@jdcasc13 Жыл бұрын
SD is not a suburb of LA. You can say Pomona or even Riverside is but SD is over 100 miles away
@davidt3956 Жыл бұрын
@@jdcasc13 Why, yes, it is. 100 miles is nothing. Heck, LA is larger than that. :) Meanwhile, three teams in or near LA and Sacramento, the state capitol that was ready years ago keeps getting rebuffed? Yes, it's LA/NY focused rich folks making the decisions.

The conspiracy theorist in me believes Sacramento was never the plan, as the same guy who backed out of investing in Sacramento helped pave the way for the San Diego Wave. The plan was for San Diego to be an MLS club all along.

Detroit City FC, Indy Eleven, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Milwaukee Pro Soccer, Oakland Roots, and Pittsburgh River Hounds already exist in the USL Championship. Baltimore also has a team, the Maryland Bobcats in NISA. The fact that people view anything below MLS or the NFL (XFL and USFL) as inferior and the fact that people don't support already established clubs unless they move to MLS or the NFL are reasons why promotion and relegation will never happen in this country.

@@jthomashair not at all just my opinion brother. Giovinco was world class you won't get any argument from me, he was even more impressive up close. To all the San Diego people hyping up this new expansion team... go support San Diego Loyal. Go support a team that actually has genuine roots in your city and isn't a corporate moneygrab. This is the evolution of MLS from ground-up organizations to corporate superclubs like Man City/PSG/Barca. This is why support in the Premier League is floating down to the lower levels of the competition - people want access and authenticity, not $500 million in fees to hype up the newest kid on the block.

Keep imagining, because it's not going to happen. Major League Soccer and the United Soccer Leagues are nowhere near the profit margins of the NFL and MLB. If they were, pro/rel could've been a thing. Also, the sports culture here is different than the rest of the world. If your local sports team is not part of the NFL or MLB or the NBA or the NHL, your community doesn't care for it given that the minor leagues here are used to develop talent rather than developing the talent while also providing a competitive atmosphere in a competitive league.
