Scoot is going to be good; his playmaking has been elite with his passing and collapsing of defenses. But he needs to learn how to finish at the rim more efficiently before I start to make predictions on his ceiling
@RealBreakBreadFilms24 күн бұрын
Scoot is gonna be a star in this league... He now has better options to distribute the basketball to and a MAJOR threat off picks because of that elite first step... He can drive and finish or slow it down to feed Ayton, Clingan or Deni on the roll... Don't forget Sharpe and Simons... If we can keep the CORE of the group together, the Blazers will be a contender in the next couple of years... However, if they gather chemistry with the new additiions mid next year, they can be a playoff team then also... The Blazers are on the right track, FINALLY

I hate the scrutiny that Scoot, Ayton are getting.
@MyMojoGo24 күн бұрын
I agree with you on Scoot but it seems like with Ayton, if things aren't going his way, his effort takes a step back. Hopefully now, he steps up dominates as he should.

Nice video. I agree with your points. Scoot definitely has a great work ethic and passion to improve - that gives me the most hope that his sophomore year will be a big step forward. Most important aspect is to improve his shooting.

Facts - Scoot Henderson had a tough start to his rookie year. But he grew a ton through the season We need to grade rookies as rookies, their position difficulty and in their age group. The bust talk through the first 10 games of a 19 year old rookie career was crazy to me. Scoot had a tough start mostly because he couldn't slow down and use his athleticism in spurts, but went 100% every second and that will never work in the NBA level. Even later in the year, when he had tough shooting nights, he still got to his spots. He just didn't convert. He definitely needs to work on his left hand finishing still. It felt like he forced shots to his right too often, making tougher angles on left handed drives
@pnwdevv24 күн бұрын
He just had so much hype, so when he didn't meet or exceed expectations, everyone thought he was a bust. 100% agree on grading rookies as rookies

Bro, there are stats that check passing to missing shots, and even an hockey assists (pass to a player that pass and make assists). Advanced stats tell a lot about the player. I would like to see Scoot improved, but won't play alone. He doesn't need to prove anything (often it's make a player to be obsessed to his own stats and that's bad), just play regular. I want to see him grow to be like Billups, (a great PG not a scorer). Btw most of the best PG like to play high pace (Magic, Nash Kidd), i think Portland as the tools (Deni was first in the league in this category last year, and Sharpe and the other young players fit to this stye).
@henryhall29824 күн бұрын
there were games where he straight up looked drunk.... that being said there were games where he really changed the tone just by doing really basic point guard stuff. unfortunately the 30 or so games I managed to catch featured about a 50/50 split. hope the latter will be more common in year two I have faith
@wrayven23 күн бұрын
I had to look at De'Aaron Fox & Darius Garland stats, and you're right that Scoot was a bit better than both in his rookie year. I just want to see Scoot make less mistakes on the court this season. I don't like the combination of Scoot & Simons as a starting backcourt. I am not sure if the team will move Simons this year, but I didn't like what I saw when they played together. Getting a coach with a semblance of a gameplan would also help out massively.
@pnwdevv23 күн бұрын
Scoot and Shaedon could be a great combo though. Which is why I'd be fine moving off Simons
@seventyfive759724 күн бұрын
Deni needs a pass first offense, Scoot needs it as well, the problem is that they are the only ones in the team that have that mindset. Coaching staff really needs to work on that.

I don’t think they’re the same player but his work ethic reminds me of dame. I knew dame was gonna be special because his work ethic and his overall demeanor. Scoot has “it” and people who wrote him off don’t know ball.
@pnwdevv23 күн бұрын
100% agree. Dame obviously looked better his rookie season since he was 23. Wouldn't be shocked if Scoot looked better than that in 3 years. Not necesarily saying he'll be better than Dame, but can definitely become an all star.

I doubt you'd find one person who claim that Scoot can't be a great player in the NBA in the future. However, after his rookie year, can he be someone to build around in a contending team? That is the question.

Totally. I saw someone explain it as, his ceiling is still the same, but his chance to reach it has just dropped a little since the start of his rookie season.

If scoot had a legit coach that knew offense he’d had looked a lot better, billups coaches like the 90’s pistons where he only cares about defense.

You have to discuss the TO’s, Scoot has promise but until he turns his irrational overconfidence into wily playmaking he won’t be a starting PG.
@pnwdevv23 күн бұрын
Should've mentioned that in the vid, but his TOV's got much better towards the end of the season. As well as when he did turn the ball over, they were more acceptable, as opposed to just throwing the ball out of bounds or losing control of the ball

@pnwdevv21 күн бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I love LOB, but I think due to his hype coming into his rookie season, Scoot gets judged more based on that, than what he actually was. 14/5.4/3 is great for a rookie regardless of shooting splits imo. Especially for a guard
@IrishIcarus1323 күн бұрын
I like scoot I think his problem was being VASTLY overhyped coming into the league. He was advertised as potential superstar and I don't think he will ever be that. But all-star seems attainable, if his shot stays as it was finishing the year. That said I think Shaedon Sharpe is the guy Portland has that may actually have that superstar potential, though actually reaching it is a different story this year should be telling for both players and what their nba ceiling might look like
@YulaTsheringSherpa18 күн бұрын
Scoot is the reason Lillard went to the bucks, the team was almost complete and the managers should've traded scoot for a strong center. that didn't happen and so the what ended up happening was the management asked Scoot to take it easy while the team builds. now, the team is looking so exciting and Grant and Ant needs to be traded if the Blazers want to build an amazing new build. In a podcast, when Damian was asked who is his favorite player, he answered Adebayo, if Adebayo were to come to the blazers, we could've seen a Blazers win the championship. The blazers might make it to playoffs next year but championship is going to depend on the build and if confidence can be built by the coach and the managements .
@pnwdevv18 күн бұрын
I agree Blazers messed up by not building around Dame. I don't agree with how they handled it but given his age, I think just embracing the rebuild was smart. Scoot and Shaedon have HUGE potential
@YulaTsheringSherpa18 күн бұрын
@@pnwdevv the thing was that Dame was finally peaking at the Blazers with winning the 3 point contest and scoring 63 points, with a few adjustments, they could’ve at least made it to the finals and that would’ve been super exciting for the city. But the new team is starting to look really exciting. I think Scoot is only going to be able to perform well if others step up and with the new additions, it is looking good!
@MisterBinx22 күн бұрын
I don’t know if he will have a huge leap but he’s going to be better. Guards take a few years to find their groove. I see a Westbrook like progression coming.
@pnwdevv21 күн бұрын
I think by year 3-4 we'll have a better understanding of what he is and will become. But even after year 3 he'll still be younger than Dame his rookie season lol
@jasonm208124 күн бұрын
The modern media and fans are just so quick to write people off as a bust. The Blazers were one of the worst teams in the NBA and in many areas were worse than Detroit who had the worst 82 game regular season of all time. It wouldn't have mattered it they had gotten Wemby or Brandon Miller instead of Scoot...they would have struggled in Portland. Yes Scoot was really bad at times. That is to be expected from 99% of rookie Point Guards. The last 20 games of the season Scoot was fine. No he didn't shoot well, but putting up any numbers with at times 3 and 4 non shooters is not easy. Scoot will be fine. I fully expect to see hum average 18ppg and 7.5 ast this year on 42% FG and 35% 3pt. Still not great but an improvement.

hes not your 1 option but hes gonna make your 1 option have some super open looks all day with his penetration.... if he could finish at the rim it his offense would be disgusting and wouldnt need a shot... but the defensive awareness is just not playoff level. my opinion of course. love his personality and hope only he gets better and better and can have a great career.

Seriously. I don't think either he or Shaedon Sharpe are ever going to be elite player's. Both are mid. Doesn't mean they are complete bust's, it just means that nobody should be building a team around either or both. Portland has a roster full of mid.

It's way to early to tell, and they both have super star ceilings. Scoot was taken 3rd and considered a #1 pick in most drafts for a reason
@bkelly62523 күн бұрын
@@pnwdevv Superstars is probably a reach… I see Scoot’s ceiling as Baron Davis and Sharpe’s as Zach LaVine. Great players but not gonna make your team a contender.
