FYI- Not to go on about this lame subject. "SEALS" use all kinds of different BRANDS of boots and shoes. That video you referenced, is about one particular shoe being used on the raid. Not that ALL of "Team 6" wore that particular shoe/boot.

Demo Dad of course and as I said in my video. All it is is a data point. I don’t buy stuff because military or seals use them, but it helps give prospective.

Why the SEALs use Vasque: a moderately priced and decent shoe that won’t break the bank to replace. Why everyone else uses these: because the SEALs use them.

Same thing with the srk in sk5 It's used in their training exercises because it's just good enough to get the job done and cheap and easy to replace. Still if it's good enough for the seals training than it's definitely good enough for us

These shoes hold up well on the trail and my pair has almost 250-miles of rugged trail on them. The toe box is small (my only complaint), but for me, it did stretch over time. Traction is outstanding under most conditions. And, while the shoes are NOT waterproof they are surprisingly water-resistant, extremely water-resistant.

I got these Vasque Juxt shoes in brown and black, in 2008, and only had to ShoeGoo the outside sole back on this March 2023, and they are still going. Great for light trail hiking, casual dress, and for pistol, and 3-gun shooting. My first 6 inch leather mountaineering boot was heavy leather Vasque, I used them for Outward Bound backpacking in 1980, and my brother used them for climbing power poles during his power lineman course, and they lasted me till 1998. Any light backpacking I use the 6 inch Solomon light synthetic boot, and for heavy backpacking, mountaineering, and ice climbing, I use the not sold anymore, Solomon Guide Mountain 9, I bought in 2000.

Interesting... they look like you could run in them yet I've never seen them reviewed on trail running websites. You have to imagine that the ultimate trail runners are likely Navy Seals so that's saying something. Still, and mind you that I don't know anything about Seals... do they run ultra-running distances? I know that soldiers in WW2 did after landing in Normandy... 100s of miles in uncomfortable combat boots. Good review and yet another show to review--thanks.

Yes, NSW wears those and many other brands of footwear. In fact, most of them wear whatever they want most of the time. They usually want a stiff midsole for heavy loads. They make lots of different choices based on what they are doing and where they are. BTW, as SEAL is an acronym, it’s commonly capitalized.

My first pair Nike’s rev 3 lasted about 300 miles my second pair of Under Armour lasted about 100 miles and it was a painful 100 miles (they sucked). My third pair of new balance 515 has lasted about 400 miles and I would say I can get another 100 miles out of them. In my opinion over the 1000 miles I’ve down this year the New Balance have been hands down the best shoe for walking. I didn’t include the Hi Tek boots I used last winter they lasted about 300 miles and could have went longer but I switched them out in the spring. I don't believe that SEALS would were shoes instead of boots while training or "working". Low tops would allow too much sand, small rocks, sticks, etc., to get inside to be practical. They'd suck, unless they wore gators. They would also offer no ankle support in rough terrain. Maybe they wear them as house slippers, or to bed.

ac: I appreciate the advice. Yeah, I’m definitely taking along a pair of leather boots. Although, most of the time, I’ll be sticking to the smaller roads, and old highways (like 66...well, what’s left of it), there are more than a few places where my best option will be an “as the crow flies” route, taking me through some pretty rough environments. And, I definite don’t trust any cross trainers to hold up to that punishment for long, even a quality pair like the ones in the video.

Nice review, thank you! However, low cut shoes tend to leak grit inside without gaiters. Any effective gaiters for these low cut shoes?

But I have them too, and I like them for low tops. I have these and I have a pair of the Oboz sawtooth low that are pretty sweet too.

red zen So I just found somewhere that says it has their Ultra-Dry waterproof system. It was no where on their site. The Leather/waterproof repels moisture, but takes time to dry.

$80 for a good pair of shoes is a killer deal. Ill pay upwards of $200 for a good 2+ year shoe. May have to check into em.

Each field operator gets to choose his own gear. It's not impossible but I doubt whole team wear same boots.
