Why Seele WON'T Return From the Sea of Quanta | Honkai Impact 3rd Theory

After many years, HoYoverse finally gave Seele an entire story arc dedicated to her. 'The Dance of Life and Death', also known as Part 1.5, serves as a transitional story arc between the first big Part of the Story (Chapters 1-35) and Part 2. During this arc, the two Seeles, Susannah, Shigure Kira, Senti, and more, take their place in the spotlight.
This video goes over some of the most important thematic elements of the story, summarizing the most important moments and theorizing about the future. This is also an in-depth look at Seele's (both) characters through the game and the manga, aiming to showcase their growth as characters and trying to predict the future of both characters. The Dance of Life and Death seems to be the culmination of their story, heavily hinting at the fact that the two Seeles will finally separate at the end of this arc. Not only that, but I also want to explore a theory that might suggest that only one of the two Seele will return from the Sea of Quanta, (Dark Seele/Veliona) while the other will remain the Bubble Universe. (Light Seele)
Besides Seele, we also look at the main themes of the story, the Bubble Universe, the Sage, and most importantly - VITA.

@@reneko Seele isn't a shadow of finality, she's a quantum Herrcher rather than Imaginary which means her existence isn't bound to Kiana. If anything Seele is her own "cocoon" and that's probably part of the problem. "anchored universes"...so Earth as we know it included are primarily imaginary energy based and so reject large amounts Quantum energy (much the same as most normal people can't exist for long in the quantum sea). Seele was already a strange case being a pure quantum existence but being able to maintain herself on earth just fine, it's possible that as a Herrcher she'll loose this and essentially become incompatible with "leaves on the tree" due to just being far too much of a quantum conduit.

Well i would say there are 2 cases on what could happen 1. Seele cannot come back even if she can manifest herself into the real world and can maintain it. Because she is an Quantum being connected to the sea of quanta but it is strange that she can maintain herself in the real world even if she is an "Counter part" to the imaginary tree. but she cannot leave because she needs to stay in the bubble universe to hold it stable as the sage. 2. this one is short. Because she is an herrscher that was born in the sea of quanta and because if that she has no core and that means then she has no connection to the cocoon of finality (Kiana) and that means then she cannot leave the sea of quanta because the real world is binded to the imaginary tree what means that she is not capable the manifest herself because the imaginary tree and the sea of quanta are like "counters" to each other. even if Seele can as an quantum beeing maintain herself before she turned into an herrscher, it can happend that she lose that abillity because she is now to close connected to the sea of quanta but if she can, the first reason would be then an problem (Maybe Veliona/Dark seele was the reason she could maintain herself in the real world but i dont think so because i readed to much Honkai lore and Honkai gauken lore/GGZ lore)

Its like before, mei didn't want kiana to die, so she joined world serpent,but in the end,she accepted that kiana is the only one who can save the universe so instead of stopping her,she support her. Seele took bronyas role for experiment because shes the one who has higher adaptability due to her stigmata, but get lost. Bronya saved her,but seeing that this time,if seele has to sacrifice herself to save the sea, bronya then accept it ajd support her decision, still kinda sad, both pair didn't get the happiness in the long run😂

Here's my opinion, but to make it easier I will call Light Seele "Seele" and Dark Seele "Veliona". To be fair if Seele dies won't that make the Bubble Universe Unstable? I do think Seele will be alive but she will have to stay in the Bubble Universe, according to most of the fan translations, Seele will took the Sage's Body while Veliona took Seele's old body. I also agreed that Veliona will continue in the real world as a Valkyrie and still trained under Mei. Considering Mei knew the personality of the real Squad 2 Leader in APHO (Bronya is an acting squad leader.)

What I have learnt is that Misteln is rapidly climbing up my list of most disliked characters. She just happily plays with people's lives with a smile on her face and faux-empathy. Don't get me wrong. She's a brilliantly written sociopath. I guess with our Lord and Saviour, the Magnificent Bastard Otto, now gone, Mihoyo need to put some groundwork in place to write someone for all of us to dislike immensely. She strikes me as an up-and-coming Villainess of Honkai and they're doing a good job of it.

Seele had been trapped in the Sea of Quanta for a long time at one point and had jumped from bubble universe to bubble universe in that time So naturally she got attached to the bubble universes that get extinguished by the Sea of Quanta Which i imagine is why she becomes a Herrscher born from the rules of the Quantum Sea instead of the Imaginary Tree

Seele is extremely good hearted. If there is one character that I can see genuinely willing to put themselves into this kind of position for strangers that live inside a Bubble Universe is her. At the end of the day, she can save a lot of human lives. Even if those people live in a Bubble Universe, they are still real people.

I feel that Veliona will try to pretend to be Seele in the beginning because her identity crisis would be at its worst after seele is trapped in the bubble universe. Overtime people like Bronya will notice this change in Seele(Veliona) and will comfort her. Then Veliona will fully accept Seele’s wishes and eventually get used her new role, then just being herself rather than pretending to be Seele. I think Seele won’t be able to fully return, but she will be able to be in the real world somehow. Since the sage can’t leave the bubble universe, I guess that Seele might be able to use Veliona’s body(Seele), her original body as a avatar, transferring her consciousness. Though this is very unlikely. But it’s hard to know what Hoyoverse is thinking, like they could just add new lore, for Seele to somehow be able to leave the bubble universe. Another theory will be Kiana will play a role after she masters her powers on the moon, which could be the most likely scenario. Somehow being able to bring Seele back. Because the strongest power is plot armour.

Don't get me wrong, "Seele" deserves to have her own life, but the fact that she is getting it on account of Seele losing hers as well as everything and everyone she loves just doesn't let me appreciate it at all. Yess, you’ve managed to word out my complicated feelings for how they’re trying to develop Seele and dark Seele as fully separate entities. Like, why must it be like this? Plus the fact Seele was literally lured-in to help solve a bubble universe’s crisis but instead became tied down with the potential of being unable to return back to the real world. It’s almost as if they’re taking advantage of Seele’s kind nature to write out another sad story. Although, APHO does give me some hope, with dark Seele potentially being the current “Seele”, her behaviour still seems to be what we are used to. As dark Seele with coping problems was shown as a possible future if Seele died, I really hope it ends with them still being able to communicate freely (or better still, can meet each other at any time but simply limited by their responsibilities) and huge cope that HoRe does have movement freedom between SoQ and real world. Sorry for the long rant, I just wanted to write out my frustration on these new chapters and this place looked suitable.

@dora.c1389 I'm actually relieved to see other people feel this way as well. And yes, Seele being pushed on the responsability of a complitely unfamiliar bubble world seems really unfair. I also take issues with dark Seele being considered the "new Seele." Light Seele was the one who was actually mulling over becoming a Valkyrie and helping with poss disaster relief missions. And yet, not only does she get stuck once more in the Sea of Quanta, but also dark Seele gets to have the objective she had set for herself, even when dark Seele has never voiced any interest in this. It feels as if Veliona is taking away Seele's life instead of getting one off her own, and that feels wrong.

Imaginary side completed with Kiana becoming the Imaginary Goddess, seems like it is now confirmed we are on the Quantum side. With Seele becoming the first Herrscher representing that side, I would expect Bronya to also venture back to the SoQ to gain that "Returning Hero" that Void Archives titled her in fighting against whatever that Bubble universe destroying enemy is. In that case, I can see why both Mei and Bronya in APHO are having the same long distance relationship and are waiting. Though I would assume, Bronya can actually travel to visit Seele while Mei can't visit Kiana. On another note, APHO timeline Velonia is definitely being a HSR Seele... Sassy, I like.

I'm start to think that the current story arc is dedicated to Dark Seele, learning about accepting herself as she is without anyone making fun of her. Just like you said, while Dark Seele is rowdy and sadistic, turns out that she has some existential issues that persists, even until the early days of the post-Honkai era. As for their relationship, I agree that in the past, both Seeles are dependent at each other. But as the time passes, they need to be independent on their own. It's not wrong to rely on others, but you need to apply the life lesson from the person who taught you in your own. People need a balance between dependence and independence on certain things we cherish for. Too much independence can make blind to your surroundings that will develop into pride, and too much relying on others will hinder your development. At the end of the day, what's matter the most is Dark Seele's independence and how she accepts herself. I believe she is neither demon nor monster, she is a living being who deserves the happiness of having loved ones at her surroundings. Because someone who gladly accepts themselves for who they are is much more stable and happier than those who is forcing themselves to artificially change their personality when they don't really believe in it or enjoy it. Just like Tyrion said to Jon Snow: "Never forget who you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you." Thanks for the video, HOMU. Also, do you want to discuss about the Sky People in the future? I'm still curious about who they are, what they want, and their purpose. Until the revelations of their origins are revealed in the future, I believe that the Sky People are enemies that much worse than the Honkai in one way or another. And don't get me started with their intentions with SR!Himeko. Whoever responsible for their creation, they are existential threat that must be eradicated, root and stem.

Call me crazy but I'm actually convinced that a new herrscher from sea of quanta was an not impossible event to occur considering how it can give birth to anything. In real life as well the scientists believe that life as we know it originated from sea/ocean so I guess the Herrscher of Rebirth makes sense as such.

Nice video. I agree I think Veliona is the Captain of the second squad as well for APOH. I also have a theory that Rita and Durandal well probably aid in finding a way to stabalize the bubbleverse to bring back Seele since they have experience from their time in one and this will open the door for new battlesuits for Rita and Durandal since they would technically be up for it.

In my opinion, since the bubble universe doesn't follow the laws of the Imaginary Tree and the 14 Herrscher, the writers can cook up however they want. This may sound very dumb, VERY dumb. Like, really very dumb. But Seele is now in Her Goddess Kiana arc, She will probably stay in the Bubble Universes as the Sage, Either until She is no longer needed as the Sage, who knows what She can do there anyways? Or how the bubble universe will react to a Herrscher being the Sage? Or they (and by they I mean Tesla and the rest of the "smart team"...) find a way for Her to "be free" of the burden withou making the bubble universes collapse. It would be really cool seeing in APHO 3, both Kiana and Seele returning to everyone.

As much as I think this theory makes sense from a "logical" point of vue, I don't think it does from a "storytelling" one. I'll try to explain, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not the most....attentive person when it comes to reading plot. So, the way I see Seele, is that she is still undergoing her character growth. Being able to live on her own. Sure, her being seperated with Velo makes sense, but what does being trapped (at least permanently) in SoQ bring to her character ? In my opinion, nothing. It doesnt give her plot relevance (like for exemple Himeko's death had with Kiana, it was necessary for her to grow), it doesnt make her grow, it just makes her...disappear (in the sea of butterflies) As for Velo, having Seele permanently stuck in SoQ will have some ill effect in my opinion. That will prevent her to grow, because she will probably chase her again if that's the case. And if she doesnt, then, what purpose serves a LIVING but unaccessisble Seele ? Killing her would have had the same effect, while having more sense. My own little theory on how she will return ? Seele was always a strange being. A quantum being able to manifest inside the real world. A Herscher born of that may have the same property...and apply it to what it governs. Yeah, high on copium I know. But just erasing Seele for the sake of doing it serves nothing. Or maybe she will "Decompose" then "Recompose" the bubble universe in way it can either survive on its own, or change its laws without destroying it

.... hmm yeah it would make more sense in terms of character development to "erase" light Seele. Like the current provided solution on how to save the bubble universe don't make sense, either, as: 1) If Kiana "anchors" it, won't she be able to just make a pathway for the light Seele to return, assuming she is on that bubble universe? -> Chekhov Gun rule on not only Veliona's "mirage", but also the whole Seele Herrscher potential foreshadowing. 2) that doesn't even answer the main issue: the "Abyss" of the Sea of Quanta. So yeah, the only resolution for this part of the story, for Seele and Veliona, too, here would be by turning Seele into a Herrscher of equal strength to Kiana, but out of the Sea of Quanta. Since the nature of "sea of quanta" is basically "what doesn't exist between bubbles of what existed", Seele who was there "did not exist" and shall return to inexistence. Practically like Madoka (Madoka Magica, I mean). Seele is a Herrscher of reality-ending level, but she does not exist. "Rebirth" as in "she keeps all the leaves that fell from being eaten by the Sea of Quanta, therefore breaking the previous balance between the imaginary tree and the sea of quanta, not just that 1 bubble universe -> literally breaking the balance of the "world", between imaginary tree and sea of quanta. ps. It's kinda ridiculous since Kiana went like 5 our-time years of suffering to get there, while Seele was slowly built up under the whole story whenever they had time for her and then she suddenly turned something of similar power to Kiana, but even more magnificent lol.

In my opinion this theory of seele became into a new sage and velionna became the new "seele" is concerning possible, but i hope not also if velionna became the new seele in apho im sure she and bronya are trying to find a way to save the original seele somehow and i say this because one thing, the duality. seele is always be relationship with this concept, i mean seele and velionna, the way they change the control of the body,etc specially when in some religions the death is represented by two beings, one want the people accept the death by his own will and the other one wanna send the people to the afterlife by own will or not even by force if is necessary, in other words i think velionna must find a way for her and seele still coexisting as always. This probably is wrong and maybe will gonna lose seele forever but hey at least i try to be optimist even with this dark and grimm prediction velionna have....

When you mentioned "Female Kalpas" I suddenly remembered the list of leaked characters in HSR, that there are two characters named as "Female Kalpas" and "Male Kalpas". It's not really about what she wants. That's one of the laws of the Bubble Universe. The Sage must stay in the Tower. It's the same reason why the Sage in Chapter 37 was so eager to get back to the Tower after she met Misteln and PROMETHEUS. If she were to leave, the entire Bubble Universe would collapse.

@@HomuLabs I meant it more that the others wanted Seele to become a sage/used her/ made decision for her and brought her there. It was certain people's decision, while Bubble Universe still could have just find,take a better Abnormal Stigmata , some other replacement,etc to fill the role of the previous sage, but of course that didn't happen because the previous sage and other people had to obviously bring Seele there and imprison her to a new fate. At least Kiana made the decision herself, not like Seele. Also, Kiana's stay on the moon isn't undefined/permanent/forever like Seele's as sage. Kiana can still communicate with Earth, has internet, etc., and she knows that she can return in time.

I watched the Spoiler part of the Video, so im gonna give my opinion on it in this comment. This means Spoilers if you tap "Read more"! Okay, I believe I can imagine what Hoyo is going for with this. If I remember correctly, Veliona has previously once or twice excerted a form of the wish to be more Human. Now that she saw that "grim" future of Selee being gone and Veliona taking her Place to fool everyone, exactly because she saw that, if it were to happen, she wouldnt fool everyone, but she would be herself as a form of attempting of not letting that Future happen as she saw it. That, in terms, makes Veliona more Human, as Humans strife to change their fate if they knew what would happen to them and they dislike it. Would also be very Hoyo to "sacrifice" a Character so that another can fulfill their Dreams and Aspirations.

My only gripe is that, it defeats the purpose of Bronya going through all that to save Seele just for her to be stuck again in SoQ. But, the difference is this time Seele is much stronger and also, most importantly, by her own choice. Though, i like them being separated since joining those two would just be…HSR Seele.

Everything is marching towards Susannah Manatt, since this is more like her progression arc, and she already knows about APHO timeline 'cause of her dreams... They're probably the other team that got lost in the Stargate during APHO arc... And basically related to Seele here... Veliona stated that some being waaaay beyond their (Herrscher of Rebirth) powers, killed Seele, and Veliona escaped without being able to do anything, thus starting to lie like pinocchio that she was indeed Seele, lying to even Bronya, but the weird thing is that Bronya knows when it's Veliona that is acting. So... Probably Bronya knows too what happened to Seele in that dream of Veliona...
