I'm beginning to think that creative expression is to ADHD peeps what self help is to 'regular' folks. I can get into flow state when taking photos, or writing fiction, or dicking around in Super Mario Maker, far more than I get from 'self help habits' like meditation or gratitude lists etc. The best self help is whatever *actually* helps yourself, and nothing helps me like having a creative outlet.

I can totally relate to these experiences, except for the socialising part. I've been diagnosed with ADHD 2 month ago, at 34, and I'm probably also autistic. Basically spent my whole life wondering why everything everyone seems to do easily is so hard for me (working 8h a day, do the dishes, hangout with people...), except for my special interests where I tend to shine. Diagnosis (and treatment) are liberating.

I have never in my life related more to a video than this one before. I probably read and listened to more than 100 self help books, watched hours of videos, tried implementing dozens of strategies but nothing lasted they all worked for a a lil while and that’s it. I tried meditations (1 hour everyday), working out, sleep schedule’s, diets, But still I wasn’t able to accomplish anything I wanted. I always had this feeling like I wasn’t living to my true potential and now I’m beginning to realize that my ADHD might be the cause. Time to try medications. Thank you for this very important video!

This is very relatable. I have been diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago and starting my medication today. Everything you are sharing about your feelings of trying your hardest to better yourself because you feel something's up but can't quite figure what, failing at it, therefore being harmful to yourself...man...I feel seen. The problem was never us, just the ignorance of how an ADHD brain works. Knowledge is power ! Thank you for this video and sharing all of those dark times you went through, I wish a younger me would have found a video like yours. I am sure this is reaching the right people. You go Ty ! And thank you.

Ahh sheer gold. You’re describing my life. I just have a few more years under my belt. I am grateful you got diagnosed before you were an old man.

I cant tell you enough how much I relate to your journey and gained insights. I chased habits & self help books & productivity hacks and I burned out bad after two years. I’m grateful I did therapy for a year beforehand, though, because I would have been absolutely in the dumps emotionally & mentally right now. But I gained a more realistic, balanced & compassionate attitude towards productivity & my ADHD. Your channel & content are so good & inspiring. I hope to start an Arabic ADHD YT channel soon.

Hi. I stumbled upon your videos today. Im a mental health therapist. Thank you for sharing your personal experience. It definitely helps clinicians like me to have better insignt on what our clients woth ADHD may be feeling/thinking/experincing. I want to also emphasize the importance of going to therapy while taking medication (or even if you're not taking medication). If possible of course. There are many benefits, when you find the right therapist for you.

Ive never been able to focus on multiple aspects of my life. If i wanna work out and become strong/muscular, i spend 2-3 months on that. Just watching videos about exersice, thinking about different programs, diet and everything. But when the newness is over, it gets boring and i forget to go after a while if i focus on other parts of my life. Like relationships, moving, changing routine. Ect.

Yup I mean I believe exercise and self help meditation can definitely help but you have to do it all the time. Because you have bad thoughts you feel anxious and stuff you gotta teach yourself to not be like that and it's definitely easier said than done. But again it's like I wanna help myself do things but I can't even stick to helping my Flippen self ...like a routine ! And then I beat myself up for it. Again why I believe in medication and seeing a therapist and working on what you need.i also believe that's why I rely on medication because I've spent all my life trying to make my brain focus for me to stick to a routine and I just can't :( and bam it's called dopamine we don't have and our medication gives us that. Don't be ashamed to need medicine when all your life your sick and tired of having ADHD symptoms
