For me, the sudden legitimization of corporations and billionaires being openly in control of policy is the most troubling aspect. This flies in the face of what most of the electorate want - a system where there are proper checks and balances and the doing away of lobbyists and pay-for-play politics influencing policy. Billionaires puppeteering the political class was something that was always implicitly recognised and considered but now that control is very much explicit and unashamed. This should not be allowed to normalise. If we've entered a period where TV billionaires, popular celebrities, pop stars and athletic heroes have the inside line to policy control instead of the wisest and most learned among us, society is on a speedrun to the bottom.

We need to test for susceptibility and suggestibility to mass social media vs a reasonable understanding of human history and political formation. One would only need to look at the the rise of fascism in Europe in in the 20's and 30's of the last century to see Trump clearly before he even stood for president. Become aware by educating yourself - and use books first (sometimes 'difficult' books) and the internet second - you will need a joined up understanding of epistemology (grounds of thought) in order to avoid 'useful idiot' status on the so called 'right' or 'left' of world affairs as profligate by social media. The internet presents more information than we have ever had such easy access to - but how do you discern what can bare proof from what is obfuscating propaganda? You need to educate, broadly and thoroughly - make this your priority for the children.
