The Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area of SW FL is the most Diverse of all SW Regions in FL. You have BIG CITY life in Fort Myers and some Old Florida life in Cape Coral (leaving Sanibel and the Isles out) Ft. Myers is too Big City (with the Big City problems) The Cape is the place to be... especially the SE and SW in my humble opinion. Yup... Gulf Access canals in Cape Coral are Crazy high priced. The faster the access... the higher price.

One thing i found out Graig when i was in PG this past september i did some driving around Cape Coral sputh end of Burnt store road Pine island road area side streets was all the homes being built just walls roof but construction had stopped just empty shells of brand new homes now just sitting empty like they were abandoned in beautiful neighborhoods wondering what is going on there.

Not every property is affected in a negative way. Newer homes are actually not experiencing much change as long as they are not in a flood zone. Like everything else, you modify and budget to live the lifestyle you choose.
