Peter Selz, founding director of the University Art Museum at UC Berkeley, talks about the impact of living with art. The UC Berkeley Library has a Graphic Arts Loan lending program which allows campus community members to borrow art for their living spaces. The program is celebrating its 60th year. Think of all the words that cannot be expressed without music, painting, or other art. Beauty, joy, aliveness and so on. We need art to evolve.

I have all original art, some of it is works of mine. Support your local artists. You'll make them happy and your home will come alive. Even if you put some of your kids' art in nice frames it will look amazing! Regards from Indiana!

If you respond to a work of art and you have it in your home, it can give you a little inspirational lift every time you look at it throughout the day.

Two years since making the post, and you could’ve taken the liberty to credit the artists in the comments yourself. But it was probably easier for you to just be offended during the pandemic than make any contributions toward the causes you care about, huh?

Maybe the question could be,” why display art in your home.?” Or, “why have art in your home?” Is what is on your walls only for your pleasure or is it there for others to view? Are you making a “museum “ for visitors and friends? Are you using art to say something about yourself? Are you creating an effect? Is the art you show a part of the esthetic design of the room? Perhaps your art has been given to you by a friend or family member. Maybe it’s your own personal work. Maybe the big oil painting matches the color of your sofa or the walls! There are dozens of reasons why people choose to hang art in their homes. Or choose not to…. Our homes are like the stage set for the drama of our lives. They sometimes reflect our fantasies. Music does the same thing. Do we surround ourselves with 50’s Jazz or country and western music? …the oldies of our youth? Rap? German lieder? I have a friend who loves the images and music of the 1940s. She listens to big band music with crooners, male and female. Noir films. And the art of the period.

HAHAHA this is UCLA webner about arts. Surprised. Yes, I do agree with what that retired prof said. It reflects the collector's mind and life. To be honest, not many average Joe know or are interested in arts, but themselves including senior people retelling their no big deal youth romance-- totally not interesting to me, but they won't shut up. HAHAHA VERY HARD TO HAVE A FRIEND KNOWING AND LOVING ARTS after I came out from university. Arts represent EVERYTHING. Everything, yes. So why not let it shine?
