The only Steinbeck that I've read is "Cannery Row", which I thought would be some old academic text, but I was pleasantly surprised at how funny it was! There isn't much of a plot, it's kinda just about planning a party, but how Steinbeck shows life in a community is to real. I'm glad to hear "Of Mice and Men" is also good. I'd love to give it a read.

I liked Cannery Row too. Slice of life. Agreed-pretty funny. If you liked Cannery Row you’ll probably like this one too

This was the #1 required reading for school that I loved! I cried. It moved me. But I loved it!

hello, will all good ? I love Steinbeck, mice and men was my gateway into his work. And what an AMAZING short novel! I'm currently deciding whether to read "The Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden." I love the channel, and I particularly like it when you bring North American classics. kisses from São Paulo, Brasil ❤

Thanks for the kind words. I recommend East of Eden over The Grapes of Wrath

Every English person has most probably had enough of mice and men

I remember having to read this in Highschool and actually enjoying it. I need to re-read for sure! Have you read the Steinbeck novel “in dubious battle”?

Same, read that in high school and the film version was great as well (the Gary Sinese) one. Short, but impactful story.

Can’t say I have. Would you recommend it?

I wish I never read 90% of steinbeck's work, because it ruined 90% of other people's works :D

Definitely weaker Steinbeck despite the popularity. Not outright bad like the Pearl's insane moralizing but still. Far too little of interest happens for the characters until the gutpunch ending.
