Why Should You Use a Marking Knife?

I have used the retractable Swann-Morton knife & blades for several years now. Fixed blade knives are a little dangerous when they are so sharp and a pain to replace the blades. I love them, I have four or five tucked away in convenient places. It is a great marking knife, but it is not almost the only knife I use. When new, the blades are the best. I have only one caution: watch out when you change blades. the little, white plastic piece that holds the knife sides together is easily lost and I have not been able to find a replacement. Taping the two sides together eliminates the time savings when replacing blades.

I might have to try my hand at making a marking knife. I've had one of those Swann Morton handles for years, thanks to Paul Sellers, and I really like it. Just so you know, Chartermade makes a single bevel D2 blade for the brass L'Indispensable you mentioned. It isn't cheap but at least it's a definite upgrade to the less ideal factory blade.

For the Swann-Morton blades: What is the included-angle of the edge? I plan to hone mine. Yes, I'm that way.

I hone mine about 10 degrees give or take , cause I'm that way too.

The blades with a double bevel are much harder to get to register flat against a straight edge than the ones with a flat bevel on one side and a cutting bevel on the other side. You show them at about 2:15 or so in the video, and call them a double bevel. They can go up flat against any surface. With the double bevel/bevel on both sides of the blade, you can't really do that.
