Yeah those linear problems you get in equations or short paragraphs are just tapping into short-term memory/fluid type thinking, but completely lack the pre-analytical component of intuition. People are good at consciously walking through steps, when everything is in front of them, but true proficiency begins with high intuition for whatever you are doing.
