Fun fact: Sora’s inclusion was actually somewhat of a lucky coincidence. Sakurai and a higher up who had influence on KH met by chance at an awards show (likely in 2019) and the possibility of Sora in Smash was discussed. Obviously, it happened. Sort of poetic since that’s how the KH franchise itself came to be. A lot of people speculate for this reason that Sora was a last minute addition to the second pass and that the original intention was five more figthers not six

Also tetsuya Nomura almost didn't let Sora in Smash because he worried about continuity which is wild considering Cloud's inclusion into smash

I remember when people hated the fact that Square Enix seemed stingy and overprotective with its IPs when only one representative, Cloud, was announced with a measly two music tracks. Ironically, in Ultimate, Square Enix became the company with the most playable characters out of all the third-party companies (6 in total).

Makes sense. A witch that has the ability to slow down time and a LITERAL goddess make sense to survive out of anyone. But there’s a ton of others that would make sense too- Zelda, Mewtwo, and Greninja can all disappear briefly

I mean, for a campaign between light and darkness, starting with the Goddess of Light and The Umbra Witch would've made sense, but I guess it also would spoil the last half of the campaign

I suppose Kirby makes more sense. He's been a Smash character from day one and he was created by Sakurai. It would either be him or Mario and Kirby's easier to justify. I suppose beginner friendliness played a big part too. Both Kirby's debit game and Smash Bros. were always intended to be as beginner friendly as possible.

It's really amazing to think about how many quality, franchise defining games have ended up on Switch this generation. I feel like some people take it for granted and only look forward to newer releases, as the internet is always trying to find the newest thing. Smash Ultimate will always hold a special place in my collection of Switch games, and I'll never forget the memories I've made while playing it, and the new ones I can make from revisiting it with friends.

Which is why it's hard to imagine where the series goes from here. I honestly think it'd be better to go the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe route & release an updated version for the Switch successor. Add new content (fighters, stages, modes, etc.), throw in a Subspace Emissary-like campagin, and people will buy it all over again. Less work for Sakurai, no need to reboot the franchise, and still give fans a lot to look forward to. Now if only Nintendo would stop trying to kill tournaments, Ultimate could stay in the spotlight for many more years to come.

Everybody wants a reboot but I'd prefer just a port tbh. Sprinkle in some new characters and modes and I'm golden. I doubt we'll ever get a subspace emissary type mode but it'd be sweet if they did. I also miss trophies and wish they came back but I can live without it.

Why the hell would Pyra and Mythra deserve a worse tier than Byleth everyone predicted but most didn't want even before he got revealed and included and who got the worst like/dislike ratio ever is the real question though. You can see Pyra and Mythra at this frame for those who are interested at 15:09 .

I could understand Fire Emblem at the end of the list, but Xenoblade only had one rep with Shulk, and it was another fake out trailer MADE by Monolithsoft and not the usual team. Putting Pyra and Mythra below Byleth is just wrong... And, actually play Xenoblade. It's good! JRPGs are more fun than you think.

I will never forget my time with ultimate. I was on the hype train for 4 years, I put 700 hours into the game, countless games with friends, countless rages at online. I will always cherish this game forever. The "Everyone is here" trailer still gives me chills to this day.
