I am a new convert to catholicism. Mary actually bring me closer to Our Lord Jesus. Before that, I was lost in a mix of new age ideas and protestant views. No compromise or real worship. Until one day I feel inspire to recite the Ave María, and that moment change my life. I smelled roses in my room in the middle of winter and felt her warm love of Mother. She bring us closer to Christ in the Holy Eucharist. In the Holy Sacrament Jesus is really present and He share with us His tremendous and pure love. I can't believe I spent so many years away from the truth. She was the reason that made me go home. ❤

@ technically that isn’t Idol worship. In the Bible idol worship always involved believing that the Physical Idols made from whatever material was literally god. You see this in the final chapter of the book of Daniel and the Wisdom of Solomon. The Catholic Church doesn’t believe or teach that Mary is God but rather she is the mother of God. By definition that alone means it’s not idol worship. Jesus should be at the center of everything but Our Lady of Guadalupe has a special place for all Mexicans because that’s our heritage. She was the sole reason why Mexico and all of Latin america accepted the Christian faith. I can agree sometimes people can show too much affection to Mary, but as long as they think worship her as a Goddess then it’s not idol worship

Also the reports about the triple reflection in the eye aren’t reported in any studies let alone by a scientist. The tilma music is absolutely absurd because the notes are limited to white keys on a piano and not black keys. There is also evidence the painting has been repainted in some spots. @adriansecond5555 Amen! Jesus is with all His children. As a mystic who was healed from a sickness by Jesus miraculously just sitting in my house one day, people don't understand that He is with all Christians no matter the denomination. When people make claims, "He freed me from the catholic church", they don't understand that it is the church He started, and He is with the catholics. They don't know Christian history and understand that everyone was Catholic for 1500 years. Sans a small group of Eastern Orthodox that broke off 500 years before the reformation. The churches don't have the fullness of truth, but it doesn't mean He isn't with them. The big thing they don't have is Him in the tabernacle at their church 24/7, and they don't take His flesh and blood. So their relationship isn't as close as it could be. I've been a mystic since I was 7, but I didn't know I was missing out on a deeper connection. I thought I had all there was to offer. It's gets so much better when you abide in Him through the Eucharist.

@Christopher_Irons She's standing ON one Aztec god AND in front of another. The symbolism is a message to the natives back then, that these gods whom the natives feared and sacrificed humans to, are nothing. Powerless. At the same time, she has a symbol over her womb of "the God of Far and Near" who was the creator and not one of the gods they sacrificed to. They only had him in their ancient prophecies that spoke of a kind of paradise called "flower world", a world of love, joy, beauty, music, flowers that they all longed to go to. Their prophecies said only the God of far and near could open the way to "the flower world" and that one day he would open it to mankind. This prophecy was all over the indeginous world from the USA land to deep in South America. It was believed by very msny different groups for thousands of years. So the symbol over her womb of this God of their prophecies said to the Aztecs that he was in her womb! That the baby of this human princess was THAT God who had the power to open the way to paradise. So her appearance was taken to mean that the time of the prophecies had arrived and the way had now been opened to them into the flower world of their prophecies. THAT way was baptism. They understoid it this way because the one who had entered this flower world (St. Juan Diego who the virgin had appeared to) was a baptized Christians! In the story of the apparition, the tepeyac hill turned into a paradisical place and St. Juan Diego collected flowers from it to take to the Bishop. In the indeginous prophecy, the humans could not go onto the flower world and collect flowers, so this was very significant to them! It not only proved that humans could now go into the flower world but WHICH humans: Baptized Christians. This was why they dropped their pagan religions in droves after this. So they started travelling to the missions asking to be taught the ways of this God of Far and Near whom they now understood to be the God of the Christians and not of the pagans, and asking to be baptized. They came in waves, group after group, as the word spread deep into the interior where the missionaries did not and could not reach, through indeginous communication means (dramatization) and they just kept coming, understanding the way to paradise was now open to them only through the Christians! In the next 9 years, 9 million had been baptized. For perspective, the missionaries had not been able to convert more than just a handful of them the entire time they had been there, since the beginning of that century.

The Fatima thing was very convincing to me. Thousands saw the miracle of the sun, and three shepherd children were leading the whole thing, saying Mary was appearing to them and relating her messages. If you look at what their family members said about them, it seemed very out of the ordinary for someone you'd think could be caught up in a hoax. And the things that the children said were very serious, such as the need to pray daily and repent, the call to offer up comforts as sacrifice for the conversion of poor souls, and the call to confess sins regularly and receive communion. The children gave up their lunches as a sacrifice to unite to Jesus for the sake of lost souls, they did many things as sacrifices to offer to God to save souls. 2 of the children died not long after, but the third, Lucia, became a cloistered nun, which is not what you would expect of someone who started a hoax for attention, at least imo.

If you are Mexican, you need to do more research on the state of affairs in Mexico after the fall of Technotitlan. Part of the problem the missionaries where having trying to convert the natives to Christianity was the fact they had deep religious convictions. Although, their temples had been destroyed, they did not embrace Christianity just like that. On top of that, Mexico was comprised of many tribes, each with it's own dialect. So language was a big barrier. The Aztecs didn't mascaraed their original believes like the African slaves did with Santeria in places such as Haiti. The Aztecs and many other tribes embrace Christianity by choice. In the same manner that St. Paul brought the Gospel to the gentiles, the Virgin Mary brought the Gospel to the natives in the Americas. The Aztecs did not have a written language. They communicated with pictures. The tilma of the Virgin of Guadalupe spoke to them in a more effective manner than any missionary could have ever done so.

Let me be clear; I am not saying that this _is the case_ , but I think people should seriously keep in mind that demons can display lying signs and wonders. Guru's have "magic" and perform "miracles" but these miracles are not of God, they are demonic. Lucifer is described as an 'angel of light'. I trust miracles where _God_ is given the credit, not a saint or pastor/preacher/priest. The Lord has the power, even when we are the acting agents, He is the power, we are His vessel.

@Joelthinker A lot are led to the Catholic Church, and that is good, but a lot also end up idolizing Mary, which is not good. I'll repeat myself too, I'm not saying that that is the case, but it is worth keeping in mind. I believe that the "angel" Moropi who brought the tablets of the book of Mormon to Joseph Smith was no angel either. I believe if he wasn't Lucifer (the angel of light) then he was likely a fallen angel. Same with the angel that brought the teachings of the Qu'ran to Mohammed. And with the "Jesus" who talks to the Watchtower Men of the Jehovah's witness. If it contradicts or _distracts_ from the word of God, then it isn't from God, because God is not the author of confusion. Just be cautious is all. Faith in Jesus, and respect for the saints.

The Aztecs did not have a written language. They communicated with pictures. The tilma of the Virgin of Guadalupe spoke to them in a more effective manner than any missionary could have ever done so. If you remember, in the tilma, the sun and the moon are behind her. She is standing on top of the moon. The sun, the start and the moon, where view as gods by the many tribes in Mexico and South America. So they realized that she is more powerful than their gods, but at the same time her head is tilted and her hands are together in the form of prayer. Furthermore, the title of Guadalupe was the title given to her by the Spaniers. When she spoke with Juan Diego, she spoke in Nahuatl and she called herself Quatlasupe, which means she who crushes the head of the serpent. One of the most important Aztec gods was Quetzalcóatl, the serpent god.

@ if anything it is contrary to Scripture. In genesis, God tells Eve that her offspring will crush the serpents head. This is a direct connection to Jesus, not Mary. Here’s the verse for your reference. “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring[a] and hers; he will crush[b] your head, and you will strike his heel.” The story you provided only serves to reinforce that she is putting herself in a place where Jesus should be, and that does not seem like something Mary would do.

OK... SO, The REAL story of Mary appearing to the aztecs in 1521 is that she appeared to 1 person only. Not the aztecs as a whole or a nation or a group in the area. 1 person thats it. His name was Juan Diego and he was an Aztec decendant. The Aztecs were already colonized and mixed through breading with the Spaniards. They had shifted their culture to blend with the spanish as well. On top of that Diego was already a practicing Catholic Christian and he was on his way to mass when the vision of Mary Mother of God came to him. She asked Diego to build a shrine on the spot where she had appeared, Tepeyac Hill and to convince the local bishop, she supposedly imprinted her image onto Juan Diego's cloak. How this guy explained the story is way super stretched.not surprising this guy usually talks out the side of his neck about most things doctrine. I used to watch and follow him till I started just doing a little personal research to validate his claims. You get false teachers from every so just look it up yourself.

@jaggedplanet no, but he could've done it to get then pagans to listen to him. With it being a familiar image, but again, who knows. I'm all for it. Just like the shroud. I do believe Jesus and the Father have allowed the Saints or even Jesus himself to have revealed themselves to us since the 1st century after Christ's death and resurrection. I mean, he appeared to Saul/Paul and caused him to go blind. So again, I'm not against it, just pointing out information. And so I believe that during these apparition moments, they could've manipulated the world and caused signs or imprints on us or things around us. Have you heard of the Chapel in Santa Fe New Mexico where a mysterious person appeared to nuns and built an impossible stairwell? I've seen this, and I have built a good handful of stairs, and I can not explain or figure it out either. So it does appear to be a miracle.

The Virgin of Guadalupe was actually painted by an Aztec artist known as Marcos Cipac de Aquino - he was compared to Michael Angelo at the time. The legend of the appearance came after the painting was complete to stop Spanish persecution of the Aztec people also known as la conquista. Dr. Callahan, a doctor I've referenced his paper in other comments, found no trace of paint on the image. Artists have found no brushstrokes. There are tons of scientific methods that can be used to analyze and prove an image is made of paint and yet none have proven paint. Take a look at the eyes of Mary in Guadalupe. Marcos would have needed a microscope to paint the perfect shape of a cornea and the 13 people in the reflection of her eyes. Marcos has no other paintings of such detail. I'm Mexican and this episode is full of BS. The historical argument against the Guadalupe apparition is clear and damning: Fray Juan de Zumárraga, the very bishop supposedly involved, remains inexplicably silent about it in his writings, including his Regla Cristiana, where he explicitly states that miracles no longer occur, aligning himself with the humanist Erasmus view. Adding to the intrigue, no contemporary chronicler-neither Sahagún nor Motolinía-mentions this miraculous event. The so-called "miracle" only surfaces decades later in suspiciously convenient narratives. Honestly, we've got more evidence for Bigfoot and UFOs than for this apparition. It's fascinating how the Mary of the apparition positions herself as a hybrid between the God of the Old Testament and a spiritual life coach. First, she demands a temple to be built in her honor-so humble of her!-just like God commanded Moses to construct the Tabernacle. Then, she claims the monopoly on compassion, help, and divine protection, asking to be invoked and trusted. If this isn't an identity theft attempt against God, what is? What's next, offering salvation through faith in herself?
@beto84932 күн бұрын
Here comes this theological missile for this "humble servant" she asked for a temple for herself, just like God commanded Moses, David, or Solomon. Except there’s one tiny difference: God is the Almighty, and the temple symbolized His presence among His people. But this Mary seems more interested in having her own spiritual Airbnb. She says we should trust her and invoke her, but no thanks. The Almighty God tells me that He is my help and that I should call upon Him (Psalm 50:15). I don’t trust her, who asks for a temple for herself-I trust the Lord (Proverbs 3:5).

There is more recent research on this, with the discovery in 1995 of the Codex Escalada, which has been dated to 1548 and is an illustrated account of the Tepeyac apparition with text in Nahuatl describing the encounter between Juan Diego and Mary. It is signed by Father Bernadino de Sahagun, a missionary priest and historian in Mexico, and a contemporary of Juan Diego. The first mention of the image in Spanish is in 1556 in a sermon preached by Archbishop Alonso de Montufar, the successor to Archbishop Zumarraga, in which he recommended devotion to the image. Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe spread rapidly throughout the Catholic world. The Genoese Admiral Andrea Doria had a copy of the image on his flagship during the decisive Christian victory over the Ottoman fleet at the battle of Lepanto in 1571.

But why bother with details like facts and data when you can just throw vague claims into the air, right? 🙃 Speaking of Scripture (because adding a bit of biblical flavor is always good), let me drop some wisdom from the apostle Paul: “But even if we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8-9). Translation? Even if the apparition were real, from a Christian perspective, it could easily be labeled a demonic deception. So not only is your argument as sturdy as a house of cards, but the very theology you’re attempting to defend puts you in an awkward spot.

The story of Mary is rooted in Tonantzin. The Aztecs would have a pilgrimage and worship a pagan goddess on the hill of Tepeyac. Bishop Zumarraga did not write about her while he was living, there is no evidence Juan Diego existed. Also, the Tilma has been proven to be made of other materials and has been painted again since. There is some information about the crown. What happened is the Aztecs were not converting and were still going to the pagan Tonantzin and they had a native create the Tilma and the document of the event was written far after the event.

Bishop Zumaragga did write of a mass conversion in the Papal Bull Altitudo Divini Consilii. There was no printing press in Mexico until 1539, so it is actually very difficult to find exactly what he wrote on the subject. The book he wrote was unknown when it was written and may have been written before 1531 but wasn't published until the printing press arrived. The book was also meant as explanation of Catholic faith rather than a story telling guide of what just happened. The Bishop wrote as an informant of how to practice faith rather than as a historian. Despite this, he did write of mass conversion. There were other accounts of this mass conversion. Why were all these people converting? They were no signs of force, there are actually no signs of the cause of conversion being any particular reason outside of the Our Lady Of Guadalupe story. I have not seen an alternative theory to why there was a mass conversion.

Look up the "Tilma of Juan Diego". This wasn't mentioned but it is basically what gives the apparition credibility. She left her image in Mexico and it is still there.

@ It is. In my country, they claimed that Mary appeared on a marbled wall in a Roman Catholic Church so I went to have a look. I didn’t see anything that was convincing but they still believe that was Mary.

Well if you listen closely, she appeared to Aztec people...who were Pagan. Not our fault though if Christ's mother has no interest in advocating for the 50k different protestant churches. In fact, the 9 million Aztec that converted was right after the protestant reformation...

Untrue. She has appeared to the Orthodox Church as well and if you pay attention, in the instance of our Lady of Guadalupe, she appeared to Pagans, not Catholics.

Mary was a sinner. Jesus died for Mary. Stop idolizing a sinner who also needed to be saved.
@user-ks3qr5fk6m2 күн бұрын
Of course she needed to be saved, but she was sinless and did not need to be redeemed. It was fitting for her to be sinless because she is the New Ark of the Covenant. The Word became flesh. Jesus got his flesh from Mary. She was Full of Grace before she accepted being the mother of God.

Mary is not a God, not worshipped, not an idol, but also was sinless yet still saved by God. Additionally, I recommend reading what many Church Fathers said about Mary’s Sinlessness from the first few centuries. Then skip ahead 1000+ years and read about what some Protestant Church Fathers also said about her sinlessness and perpetual virginity.

5:13 where did you conjure that up from scripture?
@daniellennox88043 күн бұрын
John 19:27 - Jesus on the cross “Behold your mother” Revelation 12 - the mysterious “woman” (can be viewed as the Church and Mary) v17 “And the dragon was angry at the woman. And so he went away to do battle with the rest of her offspring.” It’s fitting to call Mary the Mother of Christians because we are adopted sons and daughters of God the Father and Jesus calls his disciples brothers. Jesus has a mother so to be united to Christ means you hear the words “behold your mother” in this special way
@boughtataprice80643 күн бұрын
@daniellennox8804 it's fine if Catholics see it that way. The problem is when it goes too far and calls her co-redemptrix. She was not sinless. And only Jesus can be the one mediator as spoken in scripture.

@@boughtataprice8064 All that means is that she cooperated with God's plan for man's redemption. Because of her answer to God's call (Let it be done to me according to your word), God became incarnate and came to the world through her blessed womb. As for 1 Timothy 2, verse 6 specifies what kind of mediator Christ is. He is the only one who gave His life as a ransom for all, as the God-man He is the only one who could do this. That doesn't exclude other mediators, we all PARTICIPATE in Christ's mediation when we share the gospel or pray for others. His unique mediation makes our mediation possible (Matt 28:18-20). Finally, if you are going to accuse our Lord's Blessed Mother of being a sinner, you had better have a full understanding of the Church's teaching on this matter and have strong theological refutation, you are going against Apostolic teachings that have been held to for 2000 years. KZbin channels Patristic Pillars and Shameless Popery Podcast are good places to start learning. The Lord loves His Blessed Mother, and He honors her perfectly (Matt 5:17, Exodus 20:12), so we should be careful how we speak about her.
@daniellennox88043 күн бұрын
@ co-redemptrix refers to the fact that she played a special role in salvation history. God predestined her yes to bring about the Incarnation. The title is fitting. Her sinlessness is implicitly taught in Scripture and but is constantly referenced throughout the Church history. So much so that even Luther and Zwingli (men that held to sola scriptura) believed she was sinless and these two were not concerned with believing whatever the Catholic Church said. Jesus is the One, True Mediator between God and man. Though we intercede for each other (virtually in all Pauline epistles). The “prayers of a righteous man avail much” (James 5). The saints in heaven offer prayers for those on earth (Revelation 5 and 8) and they are “cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 11). Unanimous consensus in the early Church of asking the saints in heaven to pray for us.
