I think sometimes the idea of God's mercy is misunderstood. It sounds like we're saying that God will just let anybody into Heaven even if they hate Him. I think that the way the Lord converted me is an example of how He shows mercy even to the dying, even at whatever moment in God's eyes is the "last moment." In my experience of God's mercy, I was converted by a dream. In a fraction of a second, I understood that Jesus is real, that He's alive, that He has all the power and all the love, and that He had come for me in this remarkable way. I fell head over heels in love with Him. I gave my life to Him, saying, "Lord, I'm yours Body and soul, do whatever You want with me." He led me to the Catholic Church, and I've been a happy, grateful Catholic now for over 30 years. I think that what He did for me is something like what I imagine He does for others at the moment of death -- whenever that is, in His eyes. I think He reveals Himself to each individual in a personal way, and they have a "last chance" to accept Him as their Savior. It's pretty much an instantaneous experience. There's still the possibility of refusal, although honestly, it's nearly impossible to refuse when in that moment you know absolutely for certain who Jesus is. That's just my opinion, but I think, from my own experience, it's plausible. There are stories from the Saints and mystics that support this idea. Jesus loves each of us that much. And if He could forgive me, He can forgive anybody.

Saying, "What's the point if everyone gets in anyway" is the argument of the older brother of the Prodigal Son. It's never "nothing" or a waste of time to be blessed to be able to participate in building God's Kingdom. If God's mercy let's others in at the last moment, awesome. They didn't get in easy! They missed out on knowing God better during this life. We are so backward and blind sometimes...
@MarilynBoussaid-yd1vk8 ай бұрын
You made an excellent point. We often forget the reaction of the elder brother, and fail to realize we're sometimes exactly like him. We all need God's mercy to get into Heaven. But you're right, those who haven't known Him in this life, even if they get into Heaven, will have missed out on the blessings of knowing and loving God here on earth. You expressed that very well in your comment. Thanks!

TRUE. It’s NOT an easy religion. As a well - respected Catholic priest one said : “You’ll feel like you’re in a desert”. But Catholicism is not without its merits, either. ✝️

I like very much the image of the desert. "I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart." (Hosea 2:14) The desert can be a romantic place of encounter and intimacy, but it can also be dry, and at times, painful. The desert is where God chisels away everything that is superfluous, to paraphrase Michelangelo. As the Israelites were tested and trained to walk by faith in the desert, living on manna, that supernatural, heavenly food, we are traversing the wilderness of this world, nourished by Eucharist, the supernatural, heavenly food of the new creation, as we journey towards the real Promised Land, our Heavenly home. If we get discouraged when we feel like we're in a desert, I think it's helpful to ponder this.

@@MarilynBoussaid-yd1vk Sounds great but unfortunately it flatters to deceive. You said : *nourished by Eucharist, the supernatural, heavenly food of the new creation* and I just have to disillusion you. There's nothing supernatural about the wafers - it's all man-made stuff and it truly doesn't get changed into Jesus' body - if it were the substance and DNA would have been changed to reflect that of Jesus' flesh - but I'm 100 percent certain that if someone tested it next Sunday it would still show up as simply man-made wafers. Manna was different as the bible clearly shows.

@bridgefin8 ай бұрын
Transubstantiation says that bread changes substance and becomes the body of Christ. This is biblical as Jesus says this IS my body. Consubstantiation is Luther's version where he said that Jesus comes into bread which remains bread. So Jesus is present but at the end of the service you can throw away the bread as Jesus isn't there any longer. There is no biblical support for this view.

The very, very few exceptions to those who do not know about the Catholic Church are few. How can we, as Christians, skim that for earthly feelings. People's souls are at risk. I'm not God. I don't make exceptions. I follow his word. I get it we wish to be kind but through love and courage idk if it's safe to let people think it's not necessary. Notice the except for the last 100 years. I think, even as a Catholic, that using contraceptives for therapeutic reasons is not wrong, if nothing else helps. Sometimes, the person taking them is not willing the prevention of conception as an end or a means, but seeing it as inevitable. It really is no different from giving morphine or oxycodone to a terminally ill cancer patient to relieve that person's pain. It is allowed, even though it will hasten that person's death, since it is primarily to relieve that person's suffering. Death is not willed as an end or a means, but only seen as inevitable.

I was received into the Catholic Church two years ago, after 61 years as a Protestant Christian. For me, the hardest teachings to accept concerned Mary: her lifelong virginity, her assumption, and her queenship. I would actually like to learn more about how we have come to see Mary as the Queen of Heaven. I think about this every time I hear the rosary mystery "The crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven." (I used Hallow to pray the rosary!) I accept the church's teachings--I would like to learn more about this one.

The Davidic Kingdom had a queen who was the mother of the King. Jesus fulfills the Davidic Kingdom as King. Any questions?

Unless i missed it, the sin of "self abuse" in sexuality is, secularly, harmless and even healthful. I think you guys could discuss the church's position more deeply. We know what the catechism says.

Regarding is anyone in hell. Didn't Our Lady show the 3 children at Fatima the souls in hell, which was traumatozing to them. They stepped up there prayers for souls due to this. Thus if they saw the souls being tormented in hell, thus,there are people in hell, right?

How many of us had the church growing up? i didn't, not the way i am trying to have it in my family's life we didn't do it right from the start we are trying to get right its coming together but man i wish i had a father that took the God and his church serious. Unfortunately, we can say what ever but tolerance and men not standing on what the church teaches is why we are where we are. Because i see people that where raised by good strong Catholic parents and the difference in them and then me is astonishing. I hope Jesus can help me be close to that.. ill die trying for sure if anything for my 3 kids.😢

Growing up during the 1970s, many Mothers went to the Catholic church with their kids. Their husbands would stay home. My Dad never went to church with us. Religious education was up to my Mom.

You just can’t handle admitting that your church is, in your own words, “insignificant or irrelevant.”

I married at 16- years old forced by my mother. I didn’t have children until I was 20 but we had pre marital sex. I stayed married until my husband passed still no other spouse in my life. But I was not married into the church until we were married for 15-years. Often I felt we were sinners in the eyes of the church and God until we were married in the church we stayed married 42-years.

My understanding: nothing outside of the Church can provide salvation. However those outside of it, if saved, are still saved by His Church...via His mercy, our prayers, our sacrifices, etc.

The bigger scandal is Richard Rohr attributing words to St. Theresa of Avila saying she believed nobody was there (despite having horrific visions of hell)

Aren't there some things that are unforgivable, and shouldn't people say that they are sorry first, and why should you love someone if they have caused a great tragedy in your life?
@Gaz41138 ай бұрын
There is only one thing that is unforgivable, and no human can do it against you, it can only be done against God.

Please explain why it is a mortal sin to go to a non denominational Christian church with family members instead of Roman Catholic mass. This is to get all family to join together as one to “get everybody back to the Lord”.
@cfban9 ай бұрын
Because as Catholics we are commanded to attend the Holy Sacrifice of Christ, truly present physically in the Eucharist, at least on Sundays and days of obligation. This Holy Sacrifice does not take place in a non-denominational church (or in any other protestant church, even if they claim so like the Anglicans and Episcopalians). In other words, Catholics have an obligation to accompany and witness Christ (the real Christ, truly present) in His Sacrifice at Calvary. This is impossible to do outside of a Catholic Mass.
