Nothing is worse than setting up a perfect landing only to overcompensate right at the end and crash. Let’s tame those controls by taking a look at the sensitivity adjustments available in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. These settings can have a major impact on your flying experience so join me today as we go over their meanings and how to set them correctly.

It would be nice if we had the ability to set up a control settings profile for each aircraft and MSFS 2020 were able to automatically select the presets for whichever aircraft you select rather than manually having to do that. The presets for a small GA aircraft are much different than those on a heavy commercial airliner. This feature has been requested long time ago and unfortunately, ASOBO and Microsoft haven't delivered on it.

Will be setting up the same Joy Stick in a few days. Your video will save me a lot of frustration, pain and agony. Thanks in advance.

One of the worst errors of a rookie pilot is overcontrolling, where they ‘panic’ when diverging from their desired line and put in an excessive, rapid correction. I think that setting the reactivity would help to damp down theses excesses.

I have the same joystick and your settings made it so much easier for me to control the aircraft. Thanks for the instructions, it helped me so much.

The reactivity slider is for those who would want to imitate the control feels(i.e. lead/lag time) of the bigger airliners as those aircraft controls are not as responsive as the GAs . For Extremity Dead Zone you simply reduce the full/max authority of the controls, say your actual control movement is 100%, the game would only translate it as 90%. I personally configured my rudder(Z-axis) extremity dead zone ~13% using the logitech 3d extreme pro. Note: The setting is where I’m most comfortable flying c172.

What is the Extremity Dead Zone?

@@howardslade267 10:28 in this ctrl option window (like in the first graph) Extremity dead zone ctrl are the second last slider in each axis... If you move the slide to 50% The lines etremities (up right corner and down left corner of the coresponding axis) will move from its original position. Graph: Yaxis: Vertical is the Plane primary ctrl autority Xaxis: Horizontal is your physical ctrler movement area At 50% the line doesnt end up in the corner anymore so the up right line extremity(Yaxis:Vertical 100%) will move down on the right side of the graph (10:28) by 50%(Yaxis:Vertical 50%) witch is a lost of half of the aircraft primary controls the controler is still making the whole 100% movement

This is a good explanation of how sensitivities work of the flight controls. Thanks for doing this. I still struggle to understand the sensitivity settings for separate throttle and other engine controls (i.e. prop). I have a set of Thrustmaster A320 Airbus Quadrants that I use for piston aircraft, turboprops, and jets. The latter two have reversers. It does involve creating different profiles (and, of course, changing the profiles when flying different types of airplanes). I still struggle how to set the sensitivities for the turbine-powered aircraft. Anything you can provide their could be useful. Over on the MSFS Forum, seems like everyone has a different method. Thanks!

Great flight stick, only thing that bothered me was the jitteryness of the z axis, had to set dead zone to 30% to keep it from moving accidentally

The sim joystick is still maxing out on x-axis before your real joystick. MSFS needs an axis saturation setting like DCS has, in that way you can truly tune the max travel of your real joystick to the sim one. Its a nice way of demonstrating btw with the real and virtual on-screen as you move them. At the end of the day I dont think I've ever had to max out my joystick travel on msfs so theres a lot more scope for finer resolution to get more accurate, finer inputs.

You are spot on! I have Thrustmaster warthog joystick and I never had any sensitivity issues in both XPlane or DCS. Just like joystick saturation in DCS that you mentioned, in Xplane this similar function is called control sensitivity, basically, it gives you the option to change the resolution of the joystick to match your physical joystick movements to the in-game joystick. All I need to do in XPlane or DCS is just to change this setting and perhaps add a little bit curve. However, in MFS2020 the only way to use the liner sensitivity setting is to use the joystick/yoke that the aircraft's developer using to test them, if the aircraft's developers were using a long traversal range yoke but you are using a short traversal range joystick, setting up sensitivity curve is the only option left, but only part of the traversal could be mapped and that will caused a big joystick snap after you passing the curve point. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I have my trim assigned to a Rocker switch on the left controller of my TM Hotas4. Trim is very sensitive and almost impossible to use as it dives way down and up when I try to adjust it. Any suggestions?
@sgtstedanko7186
@sgtstedanko7186 2 жыл бұрын
Get an actual trim wheel like on a logitech control panel or something similar. It's hard to adjust sensitivity for control surfaces because the flight model realism isn't 100% true to life
