Sir, its a informative video, have you ever tried checking alkaline soils or where the reading is shows 8 and 8+, does this tool work good for that? I see that in amazon the analog meters are more suited to check only acidic soils since its grading starts from 8 and goes upto 1. So wanted to know if same is the case with digital meter too?

Even if your meter reds up to 8, its sufficient for gardening purpose. A very few plants survive or grow in a soil having pH level more than 7.5. However, this digital meter is capable of measuring ph value greater than 7 too.

From my learning through earlier experiences, I have taken care of the watering, sunshine and potmix. The only thing I can think of not going well, might be the pH. I also think my water has a major part in altering the soil pH. I often see white salt sediment on the top soil. So in your view do you think water containing more calcium salt can contribute to soil alkalinity?

Due to salt present in water and the compound of calcium more than a certain limit may make your soil unsuitable for the plants.

Thanks for sharing your views. This is a Chinease product, but very useful and a low cost solution. Otherwise a precise device for measurement of pH is rather costlier and will not fit to the budget of common people. So, go for a good user rating while purchasing such device online.

Don't be in a hasten. I would advise you to recheck the ph. Take three samples for each pot. Give sufficient time while taking samples. If still the result remains same, you can go for a remedy. You can add either wood ash or lime (calcium hydroxide) to increase ph. Add in little amount like 1 or 2 tea spoonful wood ash or 1/2 tea spoonful lime first. After 2,3 days, check the ph. You can re apply if required. But do it gradually.

Mogra PH after checking with the meter shows 7.5 and above. My buds are burning. I’ve added Fitaktri 1/2 teaspoon in 2 liters of water and applied some to each plant but no change after 3 days. Please advise.

Thank you for your quick response. April/May I had fantastic flowering. I pruned a bit and added fertilizers and since then there lots of new growth and lots of buds, some flowers bloom but most buds, 30-40 burn. I’m not expecting magic I know that but I thought adding Fitaktri shows changes starting at least a little bit. The soil is too alkaline now. There could be root rot as you indicated, certain leaves are curling so I did Neem oil spray as per your video two weeks ago. Perhaps I’ll repot with new soil as per your video and treat with fungicide at root level and in foliage. Is it too hot to repot? Afternoon temperatures are around 35-40c. I have watched your mogra video many times and in fact just this morning. I’ll watch again and repot as per your instructions. The ph meter is brand new and gives good readings of all my plants.

You should wait for repotting till monsoon arrives at your place. Ph of 7.5 means highly alkaline. Plant growth should stop in such an alkaline soil. But you said your plant is growing well. That's why I suspect the ph reading.

Thank you for your reply. I’m in Karachi and there is no real monsoon season. Just rains very rarely here. So when do I repot? Maybe I’ll change half the soil and add fungicide? PH meter could be a problem then, one mogra plant shows 7 and the other 7.5. I don’t know how else to lower the ph. I’ve added Fitaktri as I mentioned. Btw your knowledge is exceptional. I watch you all the time. I tried your rose potting mix and it’s showing good growth and new buds. Especially in Karachi because the air is salty and roses have problems. I really appreciate you taking the time to guide me.
