There is no one correct way to "do Carnivore." That's a fact. But in this video, Amber O'Hearn and I discuss the reason that some people do not seem to fare as well as others do on an "Eat all the meat you can eat" protocol. This high-fat/moderate-protein approach is NOT required for everyone. It's not even optimal for everyone. But if you're struggling and don't know why, this video may offer some answers. If you enjoy it, please like and subscribe. Or maybe leave a comment for me. ☺️

This is exactly what I went through!. I have lowered my protein and increased my fat even more and I am now watching the weight melt off after an eight month plateau. I learn this principle from being in Kelly Hogan‘s coaching group. For anyone struggling I highly recommend you reach out to her. Kelly specializes in dealing with food addiction, Carnivore, adapting your strategy to suit your specific needs with Carnivore tools. This video is proof. There may be lots of coaches out there but extremely few have the life experience and ambition to continue learning that makes Kelly excel as a person and Carnivore coach. Kudos to you Kelly!!!

I know this video is already a year old, but I just have to comment., I am only 12 minutes into this and I want to CRY tears of joy because I have been so FRUSTRATED by the doctors and influencers in the keto/carnivore space who have continued to GASLIGHT diabetics by insisting that we are crazy for reporting high blood sugar when we eat lots of protein - they give us all sorts of scientific reasons why protein "can't" turn into sugar - but they will not explain or even validate that our glucometers are reporting real and significant blood sugar spikes when we eat large amounts of protein. instead they insist that we MUST be eating too many carbs. I really needed this info - I always suspected that extreme metabolic dysfunction (T2 diabetes, even if well controlled with keto diet and no meds) can still result in some people reporting high blood sugar whenever we attempt to eat large amounts of meat to satiety. Until we regain more metabolic health, eating unlimited meat to satiety without tracking our consumption can definitely keep you trapped in a vicious cycle where your A1c just won't fully normalize. But I am hopeful that I will get there someday.

@@dogcrazy25 I started carnivore 6 weeks ago, and one month ago I watched this video and started limiting my protein to 30g at a time with plenty of fat and doing 2-3 meals a day and occasional omad. blood sugar is finally normalizing and I am slowly bumping up the protein to 40-50 in one meal (but not every day). This method of careful protein "rationing" seems to be working and I am gradually tolerating more protein as my insulin response gets better. I am very encouraged. I was diagnosed with T2 in 2011 and I was injecting insulin for 6 years as my health got worse. Reversed it and got off all meds and insulin in 2018 using keto/ketovore with fasting. Then the pandemic stalled everything and I struggled with blood sugar creeping up again. After the pandemic stall I am finally seeing progress again. Good luck with your metabolic healing!

One of her best videos ever(for my body, anyways!). I was on carnivore diet for 6 months and didn’t lose any weight. I increased protein as many told me to do, and it make me feel worse, muscle aches, more fatigue, and still couldn’t lose weight. But the two months, I’ve dieted closer to Dr. Boz’s way (decreased protein and increased fat a LOT!) , and the pounds are dropping and I FEEL AMAZING again!!!!!!! My two cents worth as a person who suffered from epilepsy for 35 years. Strict medical ketosis helped some but it was only when I went carnivore and was at a lower level of ketosis that the seizures resolved completely. So, it's not necessarily the higher reading on the ketone meter even for those of us with this malady.

@@CalmVibesVee I don't generally eat pork but I can if I want to (just not my favorite except bacon). I eat lots of eggs with the yolks, (that is the best part ). I am fine with ghee and butter but I have to limit other dairy to occasional treat status. Not a digestive problem, it gives me puffy hands and feet for some reason. I think it is a reaction to the casein protein in dairy. You may not have that issue. Dairy is very individual. Goat dairy (A2) is generally easier to digest than cow (which is A1) for most people even newborn human babies. p.s. I really would suggest ditching the stevia ASAP. It doesn't do good things for your microbiome.

WOW I really like this lady, she's so knowledgeable and calming. I love the way she explains everything. I know of no-one in the UK that I could turn to for help. Had a goitre at 16, so big I couldn't swallow properly, but my results were negative and they never helped me, I had to sort it myself. My hair is so thin, my skin is thin and dry, I can't lose weight, I'm so tired, had gestation diabetes at 27, but at 64, I know I have insulin resistance, my joints hurt, I have gut problems and I'm working on it, not as badly constipated. Fatty liver, always bloated, so many allergies where my face swells up, skin falls off and weeping raw and skin splits and bleeds, this can go on for 10 weeks where I can't even open my eyes and still all they want to do is shove more meds down me which have created them to spread and get worse every time, so again, I have to monitor everything I eat, I touch or I'm in contact with etc. I just stopped 9 medications some years ago and they never even questioned it and nothing got worse. Swelling of my ankles, legs, and body, my lymph nodes in my neck were up like eggs, biopsy shocked me, the Consultant and the nurse when we saw the fluid was green, like pea soup, but again, it wasn't cancerous so they left me, they're not even interesting in helping you other than more medication. But nothing has changed for me, I'm so lethargic and manage nearly 4 hours of sleep a night for over 10 years, so many times I can't be bothered to fight on, easier to give up when you're so tired all the time, I've turned into a slob that's a hermit, but Amber has given me food for thought and I will take on board what she said and try this. Thank you Kelly, you look amazing 🤗

I’m so glad someone is recognizing that not all of us can eat the same on Carnivore. I feel so much better high fat and I’ve NEVER been able to eat more than 1lb of meat a day. I stopped following the ZIOH groups because there were so many people on there chewing me out for not eating 2lbs a day, like they didn’t understand that 2lbs isn’t a law, it’s an average. I have always had bad hormone problems, and liver inflammation, ect. So I just listen to my body and the feedback is always fast and loud LOL. And the info on fasting! I so wish I’d heard this before! When I eat the right amount of fat I loose weight and my feet are so toasty, even in winter. But fasting just makes me feel miserable.

Myself, I like chicken, fish, especially anchovies, steaks, pork, bacon, venison, smoked salmon, crabmeat, a spoon or 2 of double cream in my coffees, or just to eat as dessert ( but I can only have jersey, other dairy in coffee has made me very nauseous). tried some raw camembert recently, no nausea like with other ( even organic) dairy, haven't had dairy for the 6 months carnivore, with exception of grassfed butter and lots of it on my meals. I added a bit of red wine to drink lately, but for me i like it a bit too much- it escalates to daily!! same with having good dark choc recently (over a week). I'm left with a painful arthritis flare in thumb joint. I added some apple cider vinegar to my fizzy water, but lost my "clean teeth" feeling from carnivore, these last 2 days so removed it again. just tinkering a bit. I cook in ghee ( or tallow, butter lard). eggs as boiled, poached, omelettes, scrambled, with butter, pink or sea salt. (just my tuppence worth). I've lately sort of gone back to black coffee as I went off it with cream. I'm satiated and don't crave and its also easy to fast if not convenient to eat. I like the simplicity too. oh and ham! and pheasant! found myself eating half a leftover pheasant in the kitchen, off the bones. it was a new experience, true hunger and satiation. I like eating whatever I want, whenever I want it, to satiety. it's good.

What you guys talked about early on, about we’re made to believe high fat carnivore is just adding copious amounts of fat to your carnivore diet. That’s exactly the message that was given to me and the advice I took in the beginning and not only did I not lose weight, I gained over 10 pounds of very unhealthy weight that I’ve spent the last 2 years trying to come back from. And not only did this hurt me, but it hurt my testimony of how great carnivore was. My family especially, still will look at me when I’m recommending carnivore and say “well, it didn’t help you with weight loss”. And that’s heartbreaking because although no, it didn’t (I’m finally seeing some results now on 80/20!), it still healed me of so much. But weight is huge for people and if a diet made you gain unnecessary weight, obviously it doesn’t work.. so let’s please continue to get THIS message out! High fat MUST be combined with lowering protein, otherwise you’re just over consuming in general.

I have been struggling with these exact issues. I realized within the past several months that my high protein meals give me terrible crashes and all I want to do is take a nap after eating. I also realized that my smaller, high fat/mod protein meals give me more energy and speed up my metabolism, allowing my food to digest better and no crash an hour after eating. Thank you ladies for discussing these topics and NOT putting a one size fits all on carnivore. I'll be adjusting how I eat my meals and hope to see results!

I thought it was better to eat two big protein meals a day (intermittent fasting and all that), and I am HUNGRY at lunch so I eat a pound of meat but then I need a nap, and I have not been losing weight. Thank you for this. I actually fell off the wagon because I stuck faithfully to carnivore for 4 or 5 months and slowly lost 22 pounds and stalled. I was doing intermittent fasting for 17 or 18 hours a day. I started getting weak and too tired to put one foot in front of the other. I started at 291 pounds so I was still very obese after the 20 pound loss...and yet I stalled and felt like garbage. I needed this. It gives me hope. ❤

Been low carb for 23 years, have just started carnivore in an attempt to lose weight I’ve gained from too many work dinners and was struggling and becoming frustrated. Here’s what I learned: 1) lower protein and increase fat so it’s 2:1 fat to protein 2) if that doesn’t do it, lower protein intake and break up “dosing” to keep the fat ratios super high 3) don’t worry about counting calories (which has been working but I get hungry and know this isn’t how it works) 4) when in doubt, maybe have a fat fasting day

@@kikiwillow187 I'm wondering if it's possible you are still experiencing so much pain, etc due to "oxalate dumping," which is something that happens when we stop eating high oxalate plants. Oxalates are toxic to our bodies, like little shards of glass that can be deposited literally anywhere, and that accumulate in the body, thus causing pain and other disruptions to gradually worsen over time. Yet when we abruptly stop ingesting them, our bodies start a process known as "oxalate dumping" in an attempt to rid itself of them & their damaging effects, which can sometimes take years, and for a while during this phase, the symptoms can actually get worse. There are lots of videos about oxalates and oxylate dumping on KZbin, as well as recommendations for how to minimize the effects. Obviously I don't know if this is what is causing your continued discomfort and other symptoms, Kiki, nor am I a health professional. I was just surprised to hear how you are still suffering and that was the only explanation that I could think of besides that you are eating more of your problem foods on your cheat days. In myself, the effects of cheating one time can sometimes last for several weeks! Good luck with your continued healing, tho'; I truly believe you are bound to be pain-free eventually, just as I finally am!! 🤞🙏 Rooting for you!

Just re-started Carnivore 3days ago (after having done it for almost 2 years!) and now I get where I went wrong! This time I’ve been tracking everything into Carb Manager app and it shows my fat:protein ratios approximately 60:40 (61:39; 63:37; 62:38) over the past 3 days. I had no idea until I started tracking, (so I highly recommend it, it’s a free app anyway unless you want the premium) so now I’m off to buy some butter (UNsalted, cus I realized that for me, salt isn’t making me feel any better) and be more conscientious about eating less protein at each meal while adding in more fat and eating 3-4 smaller meals instead of the two large ones I’ve been chowing down on! 🤞 Hopefully the weight will start dropping and I’ll actually start sleeping better so that I can continue my daily walking. BTW, of all the carnivore KZbinrs, I love the O.G the absolute best!

Now, this explains a few things for me. I have had T2 Diabetes for a few years. I've been able to manage my glucose by diet alone - Keto for the most part. But I've gone more and more toward carnivore, as the glucose is getting harder to manage. I've tried IF. In fact, I did OMAD for a month - and the glucose normalized, and I lost 20 lbs. But I felt starved, and COLD all the time! I felt I just couldn't keep going. So I threw in the towel, and tried going on Mounjaro. Well, that fell through with my insurance, so I tried Ozempic... the side effects were horrific. I lasted one week on that medication. So here I am, cutting carbs severely again, and trying to fast, but failing... But now I've got a new strategy. Butter will be my best friend. I can do OMAD if I can nibble butter otherwise... and I'll start that meal with butter. I absolutely LOVE butter. As a fat kid, 55 years ago, I used to sneak a fingertip into the homemade butter sitting on the countertop. We had our own milk cow, and Mama made the BEST clabbered-cream butter! Of course, it was raw. I milked that cow by hand for years... now I want a Jersey cow. Just for the butter.

Water worked for me after terrible night leg cramps. I got serious about drinking half my body weight in ounces of water a day. I also made sure to begin with that I had 1/2 tsp of salt for every 2 quarts of water because salt in the right quantity helps the cells hold water in them. It worked like a charm. After a few days I stopped measuring the salt and just salted my food. I think I was just drinking too little water. No problems since. Also, drink additional water when exercising or drinking something caffeinated. When we stop eating carbs, we are also loosing some water content found in them. Totally worth the trade off to me.

Thank you Kelly and Amber. I'm one of those who had lost weight on keto carnivore, my weight down to 130 lbs at 5'6" but my fasting BG was 127...and now considered a pre diabetic. I loved the weight loss but I still didn't feel great with low energy and AI symptoms not resolving. A very helpful video indeed!

Oh my gosh!! I so needed this video! I have been carnivore since July 4th, only lost 1 pound, no energy, feel like crap most of the time. Heavy cream in my coffee every day, cheese - probably part of the problem. Now I know to try this 80/20 and cut way, way back on the heavy cream to see if this makes a difference. So grateful to you and your channel and caring about each and every one of us. Love and hugs to you!

I think this information will help me so much! I’ve been struggling with lack of weight loss and other problems on carnivore (including excessive hunger & hard to manage cravings) but this video reminded me that the more fat in my meals that I eat the more satisfied I am and I truly don’t get hungry as often or suffer cravings. I will up my fat again and see if it helps. In the past when I ate more fat I found I don’t need as much meat when I do. It seems to balance out for me eating with fats in mind. This video is such a validation of my eating experience with fats. Even when I was keto I had a lot more luck with keeping my ketones up and glucose down when I ate higher fat. It’s interesting to hear some of the research about this subject. I wish I had known more about this when my brother was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma (brain cancer). I still wonder if he could have beat it with the ketogenic diet at a therapeutic level. 🤔I guess I’ll never know. He passed in 2007 before I’d ever even adopted a low carb diet (back in 2010). Still, if there’s any genetic component to it I want to avoid his fate if at all possible.

A group member on Carnivore for Women posted a link to this video. It blew me away as well as answering the nagging question 'What am I doing wrong?' Well, I learned I wasn't doing anything wrong, so to speak; but that because I have a 77 year old body, I have to change the way and frequency that I eat. I have been on Carnivore since 10/28/21. I've lost about 25 pounds but it has been a rough road --lots of intermittent fasting. In the last two months I have been in the throes of wanting a lot of fat but doing my best to curb that. I now know, my body wanted the fat for a very good reason. And I also now know why some 'insulin resistance' problems really never went away. Thank you so, so much for creating this video. I will watch it again and again. I'll also go to Amber's channel to add to my education. Thanks again!

This might explain why, after several months of ketovore, my A1C only dropped from 5.7 to 5.6 and I had stopped losing weight (I still have a lot to lose). I was eating high protein and only moderate fat. And I wasn't feeling very good.

Try the 3 day sardine challenge from Dr Boz. My BG stay the same when eating meat, or even high fat carnivore. But after one can Sardines in olive oil and fried in butter, it immediately starts dropping. As soon as I eat meat again, my BG goes up again.

Listening to men who work out is okay, but this seems to fit my situation as a woman, and someone who must have some metabolic issues. I was already trying to work through glucose spikes when I started carnivore. I thought for sure carnivore would help me tremendously. Then my levels of glucose stayed above 100 all the time, and I could not get my ketones higher than .3. What?! Watching this video explained it all for me! It's frustrating, but good to know I have a protein sensitivity that just needs less protein/more frequently along with higher fat. The fasting test to see if this is a protein sensitivity was like listening to my own fasting experience the last few months. Im going to give this way of higher fat carnivore a try! This conversation was so helpful. Thank you!

Ladies, I'm a guy been on Keto almost 2 years, really feel younger, lost all aches and pains, can even run again, but for me the most important thing was to shrink my prostate and get rid of the symptoms. The symptoms got better over most of the Keto life but lately the symptoms get worse with Keto and better if I eat some carbs. It is like I don't need Ketones anymore. I am definitely fat adapted and my body can produce insulin on demand and it is effective so I am insulin sensitive. So I am still on a low carb diet but not low enough for ketosis, but I have a high enough blood sugar for my body's needs. I feel balanced, and my prostate symptoms are subsiding. It is like at a certain point I was shrinking my prostate too much, I need to let it relax and perhaps more slowly get back to normal, kind of stabilize, with a healthy diet including some healthy carbs. It is weird because over the last few months of Keto my symptoms at times were almost gone, I was feeling so great about normal urination, complete bladder emptying, and not having to piss urgently. If I have to eat a piece of toast and a potato every day then that is what I will do. For me, most of my journey has been experimenting and going with what works. Keto though, was super important to get my large prostate back into shape and curing a miriad of age related aches and pains. Those aches and pains are not coming back since not being on Keto, my problem now is restricting my carbs to reasonable amounts. I am eating sweet potatoes, squash for carbs. I do eat lots of good meat mostly beef, and a moderate amount of good fats. My ratios right now are about 30/35/35 protein/fat/carbs. I think eating clean healthy real food is the key, once you get healthy. I am pretty sure my body is still burning some fat, although it will not show in ketone readings. I still do IF two meals a day so that helps. But I have always been a skinny guy, hard to put on fat, and able to handle extra carbs. I do some resistance training, some running, and plenty of walking. I am 71. Looking for a lady with a similar story :)

As one who has multiple long term autoimmune issues, in the past I would fast, start feeling good, then return to my vegan diet, and quickly start feeling bad again. Then years later, I found Keto and then Carnivore, and Just Eat Meat worked great at first, but quickly stalled, even though I experienced some life changing benefits and I have stuck with it. This information is a light in the tunnel. Kelly and Amber make a great team in bringing things down to layman terms, making the science make sense. Fantastic interview! Thank you, Kelly!

On the flip side, there are people who have seizures if they don’t stay in ketosis. Or horrible bouts of depression when their ketones drop. As I said in the video, for some people (especially metabolically healthy people), they don’t seem to care if they’re in ketosis or not. But other people truly don’t have that luxury.
