During the Peak of the Live Service Trend their executives just got tired of having to work hard to get that minuscule yearly bonus and thought “Fuck it! let’s try to print money instead with the games to serve as the proxy for said digital money printing presses!” After said Live Service Trend had completely died off: “Oh shit, no one’s blindly consuming & have actual proper common sense to not impulsively handover their wallets at our beg & call. F*CK!..”

I think the idea was that Sony were playing the lotto, so if they had 12 live service games, one them would be the winning ticket like fortnite.
