I really do admire that their passionate memories of their favorite restaurant drove them to actually save it. I've been a huge fan of South Park ever since the first aired in the 90's and I still am to this day. The thing about South Park, as callous and flagrantly offensive as it is, is that it's also got a lot of heart. Bit like old Simpsons with the crassness turned way up. Renovating Casa Bonita totally reflects that. The amusing thing is that it will probably make a lot of money, to boot, and quite unintentionally, or perhaps precisely because the drive to make a profit is refreshingly not the motive in an American business...

Anyone from Colorado knows how big of a deal it is that they finally have a real chef running a real kitchen, as opposed to a GM running a cafeteria line. It'll be odd to finally be able to say I "enjoyed" Casa Bonita's food because "crap food" became one of their staples.

I only know of Casa Bonita through its appearance in South Park episodes, and the video game DLC. But I was shocked when I found out it was actually a real place - and saddened to hear that it closed. Having them reopen it is probably the best thing that could’ve possibly happened, It’s very clear they truly have love for this place. If I ever get the chance to see Colorado I absolutely MUST visit Casa Bonita!

Was he foreal about the 6 million customers a night?
@twally87
@twally87 Жыл бұрын
@@Xavier_Cano that number is probably just an exaggerated projection to get into the black by end of that first fiscal year. If they had 6 million customers a night for the first 365 days, it would pay off all the costs of renovation as well as nightly operating costs. Typically, a major investment in a restaurant/theme park like this would be part of a long-term plan for a profitable business, along with financing. I'm not sure whether Matt & Trey are footing the bill entirely independently-- they probably are-- so it doesn't matter to them what those renovation costs are, as they're paid up-front and there's no loan component to daily operating costs. Perhaps if the business eventually reaches a baseline profitable output on a month-by-month basis, it won't matter to them how long it takes for the renovations to have technically been paid-off. Might even be willing to operate it at a loss indefinitely as long as it isn't too bad. They are fairly independently wealthy at this point. I'm sure they've reviewed worst-case scenarios and are fine with it so they figure what they hey, if it means keeping an important part of their childhood open and looking cool, why not?

My name is Denver. My parents were highschool sweethearts from Arvada, Colorado, and they eventually ended up in Texas, where I was born and raised. But we would visit my grandparents in Arvada, Colorado maybe twice a year, and going to Casa Bonita was a certainty of the itinerary. The arcade, the photo booths, interacting with the wandering actors, buying costumes, braving the skull cave- the gorilla waterfall diving sketch that played out every hour- it was fantastic- we'd spend like 4 hours there every time. Casa Bonita was so important to me and my three other siblings growing up. Fond memories to this day. I hope it's still there.

(I went to Green Mountain Elementary school from '78 to '82, then Dunstan Jr. High '82-'83 before moving back to NY). I do not remember where I lived when we went to Casa Bonita, but I absolutely remember going there once or twice and distinctly remember the divers. That place was amazing! As a kid growing up in the Denver area, Casa Bonita was ALWAYS a special treat. Running around, visiting all of the variously themed dining areas (the caves were my favorite), interacting with the costumed characters, and of course the sopapillas and honey. My family always chose the terraces to sit in and the decorations and the lights were magical to me as a child. I don't remember the food being bad (definietly no worse than a certain mexican fast food restaurant) and it was the place you ALWAYS wanted to go to as a child for your birthday. I am VERY glad it will live on enchanting kids and making memories.

I fixed guitars for the band leader in the early 2000’s, Phil Marin. Every time I would bring the kids to eat there he would buy us dinner and then have me sit in with the band! Phil was immortalized in the South Park episode as the band leader in the cartoon.

I grew up in denver and remember how special Casa Bonita was. I would fly home to re-visit this place and see what they've done to restore it. The last time I went there was 20 years ago, and the food was so bad that it was literally inedible. You take your food to your table and just leave it there, uneaten. Would've made more sense for them to just charge admission instead of making you buy that slop just to throw it away.

@@autofocus4556 Futurama was good because it took over the golden era of the simpsons. It started right when the simpsons got worse and it ended on a peak. We dont really know what would have happened with Futurama if they continued to air with new episodes after 2013... Im excited to see if they can maintain the old writing quality with their reboot and season 11 next month. But imo South Park is by far the best longest ongoing cartoon/comedy show out there.

As someone who grew up in the Denver metro area from 1981-1997, I can attest that an intense love of Casa Bonita is NOT a joke. This place was magic to me from 4 to 13 (fun fact: they had a neighboring magic store until the nineties). I used to have dreams about making return visits. It was the apex of the 60’s/70’s theme restaurant trend. Casa Bonita, Celebrity Sports Center, and Cinderella City Mall were marvels of midcentury Denver. It utterly made sense when I heard about Matt Stone and Trey Parker buying it and I would’ve done the same in their position. I’m incredibly grateful and can’t wait to take my wife and daughter to Casa Bonita mk II.
