Lol as a Physical Therapist I agree 100% about healthcare insurance. In my industry they got something called "peer to peer review." Basically I make a referral and requests visits from insurance. The insurance company then gets their own Physical Therapist to review my chart and say... you guessed it "no." Their whole stick is "well our Physical Therapist says this person doesn't need care, so I guess your wrong even though our guy has never met your patient." Insurance companies are evil conmen.

As someone who works in the medical field, I can't tell you how many things get denied. They are hoping if they make us fill out more paperwork or do extra work, we will just give up on getting the test, medication, therapy, etc. Insurance makes the most money when people don't use it so they make it as difficult as possible to get things approved. There are even some insurance *cough* tricare *cough* that we lose money on to see their patients (it would literally be cheaper to see them for free & do a charity write off than to bill insurance, but we are legally not allowed to do that) so then of course, no one wants to take their insurance & can you imagine how much fun it is to explain to a patient that they have to drive to another state to get coverage because no one is in network?

That’s because the purpose of health insurance companies is to make money. It’s only confusing and frustrating to you because you think it’s about your health. Once you understand what they are doing to begin with it makes perfect sense. You don’t maximize profits by paying for everyone’s stuff no questions asked. Again, it’s not about getting you the proper care you need for your ankle. They are profit making machines not health care companies.

It's accurate, especially where you have to keep going back to the doctor to be seen for the same thing you have been seen for. All they left out was what happens if you have insurance through work and the provider changes and the new company declined to cover your medication even after receiving a pre authorization. Then you call them and they tell you to get a pre authorization but then you tell them you did and they declined it. I hate the US medical health care system sometimes.

Speaking of getting upset because of accuracy.... Been married for 2 great years and 17 shitty ones. I was watching the episode with the Shake Weight and laughing my head off until the last 2 or 3 minutes, when I was reminded of how enjoyable the marriage could have been if she just did a few small things and held up her end of the deal. A legit emotional response to a SP episode. Fuck marriage.

They were going to, but first Matt and Trey had to go to get a second opinion from a provider in network, then had to fill out forms, fax those forms, scan the forms, email the forms to the insurance then go back to doctor then go back to the specialist who talks to the insurance company who faxes the forms to the medical director in the Maldives and oh look, its been almost 30 years

Incorporating the lithograph "Relativity" by M.C. Escher is genius. This is the picture of the healthcare system with all the stairs at the 3:40 mark. Even though two people can go the same direction on the stairs one will be ascending and the other descending. Perfectly captures the US healthcare system.

That was awesome! But they forgot a few things like: the $300 tube of ointment that you didn't even bring home but have to pay for; and the fact you will never know the total of how much anything is going to cost out-of-pocket until a few months after it's all done.

I'm glad this came out when it did!! I've been so down lately. I've been in the disability process for a few years, struggling to financially stay afloat. I've always had chronic health issues, but never thought I'd become disabled and I need more appointments now than ever. The disability process is a joke. Insurance a joke. Jumping through hoops after hoop to drag on for years. Needing referrals for one thing or another, getting denied by insurance one after the other and having to appeal them... I finally got a referral for my functionality tests. Insurance doesn't cover the one I need and it's $700. I'm in the process of seeing if local programs can help me cover it so I have a physical profile for my disability claims. Just ugh. I'm glad this came out during my stages of stress and grief, gave me one of the best laughs in a while!!

Yes this is true. I worked for an insurance company and we had to provide "Additional concierge services" to our UC (University of California, Stanford and Vaden) Members while the Medicare supplementals, medi-Cal and regular employer plans got subpar experiences and services and it was accepted smh (This included employees of the insurance company too, our plans sucked and took 30% of our pay!!!!!!) . The reason is because the plans with additional services were high paying clients and basically wrote their own plans and said "we will pay you x amount for x services and if you disagree we will contract with another insurance company" The job sucked and Yes, I ended up quitting when they started to approve semaglutides for weightloss but my diabetic type 1 and 2 clients were struggling for a prescription. F insurance and their scheming ways!
