Hello I'm spanish. One way to see the difference between the Spanish public and the American one is by comparing the ratings on the IMBD film websites (American) versus FilmAffinity (Spanish). In FilmAffinity they always have a lower grade, and there are important differences in some films as well as in the historical top. For example, FilmAffinity the best would be The Wire with 8.8, while IMDB is 4th behind Breaking Bad (which has 9.5), Band of Brothers and Chernobyl. In movies, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight is the third highest rated film on IMDB, while FilmAffinity does not enter the top 100. Barbie on IMDB has 7.4 Barbie in FilmAffinity has a 6.6

It wasn't until 1974, when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act passed, that women in the U.S. were granted the right to open a bank account on their own. In 2022, women earned an average of 82% of what men earned doing the same job. Hundreds of anti-abortion bills have been introduced since last year and while there were some women sponsoring the bills, it is noticeable that a significant majority were proposed by men. It doesn't hurt to be a a bit of a feminist!

I so agree with you in many ways in your videos. I was surprised that even with movies, I also agree also with you. I've seen the previous Oppenheimer movie years ago called Fat Man and Little Boy as well as some docus, so I already know there's nothing new that Nolan can bring to it -- and I only like one of his movies -- and yes, that's The Prestige. I find Nolan's movies too self-important, too heavy on exposition. His films are also edited without visual storytelling flow; his idea of visual storytelling is to make spurious cuts of several frames to simulate excitement between heavy exposition dialogues. As for Barbie, any aggressive marketing turns me off big time.

I love how the Barbie movie is supposed to be a feminist critique of the patriarchal control of society, and the resulting oppression of women, yet the director is an award winning *FEMALE* director, and it stars an *ACTRESS* who gets paid millions. A true patriarchy would not have so many women involved and profiting off such a lucrative enterprise. The very make up of the cast and crew, and the level of support this film is getting, completely undermines the film's thesis that the West is an oppressive patriarchy. If these feminists want to make a film, denigrating a *REAL PATRIATCHY* , let them make a film about Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia. Of course, they would never do that, because that would require real conviction.

Oppenheimer was a textbook case of a director who has been seduced by his own auteur reputation. I know one of Nolan's trademarks is his use of nonlinear storytelling, but this device doesn't add anything to this biopic, and actually makes it difficult to watch. It is now more of gimmick than something that enhances the story. There were superfluous characters, like Florence Pugh, which led to needless digressions in the story. The only thing I found enjoyable about the film was that it was beautiful shot, and very well acted. They could have trimmed 1 hour from this film and it would still be impactful.

Im looking forward to moving to Spain, but, respectfully, your commentary on the Barbie movie made me incredibly weary and concerned about widespread patriarchal/sexist mentality in Valencia. I agree the movie is subpar, but how you worded it exemplifies the issues that film approached. I’m unsure if you simply misunderstood the message though, because much of what you said is not aligned with the actual message of the film e.g.: you say it’s about punching down men, when the movie clearly demonstrates how patriarchy negatively affects men’s mental health, which is why Barbie shows kindness to Ken at the end, giving him space to not only be vulnerable but also find his own sense of identity, the film is about finding a balance in between men and women without disempowering either. Moving to a place that values women’s equality, well-being, and has an active desire to eradicated patriarchy is paramount to me. So I’m curious…How proeminente is your type of view in Valencia? I understand that the people you surround yourself with tend to be an echo chamber of your views but…Do you find that most agree with you, or is there a healthy balance?
@Spanish_Patriot Жыл бұрын
If you're afraid of people having different views and opinions, then maybe you should just never get out of your house, let alone come to Spain. Spaniards tend to be vocal about expressing what we think without sugarcoating, which may come off as a bit aggressive to foreigners. Unless you're living under a rock, you will always come across a wide variety of viewpoints in Spain. There hasn't been patriarchy in the West for decades, what are you talking about!? What negatively affects men's mental health is radical feminism constantly demonizing men and masculinity. Men have always had spaces to be vulnerable, we have family, friends, etc. We don't need your "help" to find our own sense of identity. We don't need anyone to come save us from ourselves. LOL

@@Spanish_Patriot love, I’m from Brazil and am very much aligned with the culture of discussing different point of views in a respectful manner. No need to make assumptions when there are plenty of intersection in between our cultures, including the discussion of hot topics without making enemies. But I’m also happy to reply with the same judgemental energy you came at me with: I will assume you’re male since your stance is that patriarchy is inexistent in western countries, in which case, you have absolutely no standing in arguing about a system that affects a group you’re not a part of. It’s unfortunate that such a huge portion of men have zero ability to self-reflect, and actualize how this system affects them as well. All while women who support this system are the first to be affected by it, may it be through domestic violence, SA, or pay inequality. Look at Italy with its “less than 10 second groping isn’t assault”, or the US’s SCOTUS taking away women’s bodily autonomy resulting on a multitude of women dying. And you have the audacity to say that such issues are inexistent, when women’s lives and well-being are on the line? I’d welcome ANY facts that negates the fact that women are seen and treated as lesser being across the globe, some countries far less than others without a doubt, but it’s not an issue that has been eradicated by any means. I’m unsure if you properly read my comment, where I mention the undertones of the film being based on finding balance in between men and women. And I also have a suspicion that you don’t know what feminism means, since you throw in the word when referring to your unreasonable comment about feminism destroying men. I invite you to use a dictionary and get back to me with the full description of what feminism means. As a matter of fact, a quick Google will quickly show you that a feminist stance is one where “all genders are equal”, it has NOTHING to do with devaluing men. So your ignorance shows if that’s your “belief”, and in all honesty, because of that you have zero understanding of the topic to feel this entitled to comment on feminism, leave alone analyze a film on it. It’s not unreasonable to ask about social norms on a KZbin channel that discuss such topic. I’ve immigrated to multiple countries as a military kid, and learning about social customs in order to integrate and respect them is of the utmost importance to me. Now, I can only hope that your xenophobic stance, or this KZbinrs passive aggressive reply by replying to you and not me only represents a small percentage of the Spanish people and what they stand for.

@@Sirsquintalot1984 - "you have absolutely no standing in arguing about a system that affects a group you’re not a part of." Didn't you just claim that "patriarchy" negatively affects men? You should be welcoming me into the discussion then. - "It’s unfortunate that such a huge portion of men have zero ability to self-reflect" "Self-reflect" = Just agree with me! - "All while women who support this system are the first to be affected by it, may it be through domestic violence, SA, or pay inequality." What is this "system"? Last I checked, domestic violence, SA and pay discrimination are all illegal. - "Look at Italy with its “less than 10 second groping isn’t assault”, or the US’s SCOTUS taking away women’s bodily autonomy resulting on a multitude of women dying." There is a legal difference between abuse and assault, just like there is a difference between manslaughter and homicide. The SCOTUS ruling just gives states the right to make their own abortion laws since the US Constitution doesn't include abortion as a federal regulation. It's okay if you're not familiar with how criminal and constitutional law work, just don't misinterpret what you clearly don't know about. - "I’d welcome ANY facts that negates the fact that women are seen and treated as lesser being across the globe, some countries far less than others without a doubt, but it’s not an issue that has been eradicated by any means." Well, you have laws such as the LIVG in Spain which legally discriminate against men... Do you agree with such laws? There are indeed countries where women are in a very bad situation, like Saudi Arabia. Spain is not one of those countries. - "And I also have a suspicion that you don’t know what feminism means. As a matter of fact, a quick Google will quickly show you that a feminist stance is one where “all genders are equal”, it has NOTHING to do with devaluing men." I know the dictionary definition, and I also know what it means in reality. You claim it's not about devaluing men, yet third wave feminism is anything but equality and all about devaluing men to the point you believe we can't even find our own sense of identity without your "kind assistance," to put it mildly. We have seen for years what your "equality" means. So thanks, but no thanks. I believe in real equality, not in radical ideologies. - "It’s not unreasonable to ask about social norms on a KZbin channel that discuss such topic." You did not ask about social norms but people's views on a particular topic. - "learning about social customs in order to integrate and respect them is of the utmost importance to me." Again, you did not ask about social customs but opinion. Will you change your views if they conflict with the majority view in your new country of residence? You don't seem to respect my views, or her views. There are millions of people in Spain with similar views. - "Now, I can only hope that your xenophobic stance" How am I being "xenophobic"? - "or this KZbinrs passive aggressive reply by replying to you and not me" KZbinrs are simply under no obligation to reply to all comments. I fail to see how is that supposed to be "passive aggressive."

Hollywood is dead long time ago... You would not see any of their movies if they were not investing more money in campaigns and special effects... The only reasonably good movie I have seen from Hollywood in the last 13 years was The Spotlight Case... The most boring movie I have seen in the last 15 years is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and it got several Oscars... Everything is said after it

You think Barbie is bad with trying to shove it down everyone's throats? Try walking into a Target and tell me what you were confronted with. Bring an airplane bag with you, but DON'T bring the kids.

Like it or not, Hollywood employs a lot of people who make a living in the film industry. Not every actor is a narcissistic A-lister, there are a lot of screen writers, producers, supporting actors, musicians, and dancers that love their craft and this industry who have hustle to carve a living in a very tough industry.

Spot on Antoaneta! 👏 So far I only watched Barbie. My reaction was the same - wanted to puke. I truly hope that younger girls who see the movie won't get influenced by the messages of feminism and sex divide that the movie is sending. FYI - I'm following you as I'm planning to move from Serbia to Spain (Valencia), and guess what - 12 points go to Spain!! 😄🎉 Thank you a lot for sharing your expat experience in Valencia, it has tremendously helped me! 💛

Feminismo significa igualdad. La igualdad es necesaria.

Im curious…Can you kindly describe Feminism?
@carolinafernandezgomez8149 Жыл бұрын
@Sirsquintalot1984 Жыл бұрын
