When you think about it, spicy food doesn't make sense. Why would we eat something that causes us pain, let alone enjoy it? In this video, we'll talk about the science of why spicy food is addictive as well as the social ramifications that propelled spicy food into one of the most popular flavors in the world.

Tip: Don't walk for several hours after eating something you *know* will cause your stomach severe pain (pain similar to gastritis). Walking WILL make the pain worse. If the pain gets so bad that you become nauseous, I've learned it's better to just throw it up. I felt instant relief in my stomach after puking up all that hot sauce. And obviously, if it's causing you anxiety, know your limits and eat the spicy food in moderation (especially with milk).

@@drygordspellweaver8761 you might want to try pure aloe vera juice. It helps heal tissue damage in your digestive tract in much the same way that it helps heal skin damage from sun exposure. I started to become sensitive to spiciness in my food, which was a gah damn travesty. I bought a half gallon of aloe vera juice from Whole Foods but you can get it at many health food stores. Drink 2-4 ounces a day until the half gallon is gone, then go a week or two without, then buy another half gallon and repeat. The reason you should take a week or two off between drinking it is that it stimulates peristalsis, which is what makes you poop haha. If you take it too regularly, you become dependent on it to poop, which is no bueno. Buy the stuff made from just the inner filet - whole leaf juice can be upsetting to your stomach because of a compound found in the aloe vera leaf's "skin". The whole leaf variety is also rather bitter. I was able to heal my digestive tract and I can comfortably eat super spicy stuff again.

Where I live spicy food is less normalized, like something kinda spicy is the hot here. Except for me and my cousin who would eat entire jars of Horseradish (A near identical food to north american wasabi fun fact). I eat spicy noodles as a nightly food, I eat steak with hot sauce exclusively, I make my own salsa because store bought just doesn't taste good and isn't very spicy. I have even made Virgin Caesar (Virgin Bloody Mary) drinks for myself as a kid because it was spicy. But I still feel like I have a low tolerance for spicy food? Idk

When I was about 4 or 5 I saw my cousin eating flamin hot Doritos. And obviously I wanted to as cool as my cousin so I walked up to him and I said “gimme” and put my hand out. He gave me one and I took a nibble. I said out loud “dat ain’t so bad!” And shoved the rest of the chip in my mouth. The unholy noises followed and then “MILK” as loud as I could. I chugged it out of the chug and then threw up a few minutes later. Fun times.

@@alonsotheurel The intention was to prevent itself from being eaten by mammals, and humans ended up eating, and enjoying them, en masse. This was not its intention, so it backfired. Just because humans harvest them in large quantities doesn't mean all mammals do. Humans are a strange oddity.

@@simonvalente8348 Fantastic point. I was thinking along the lines of its evolution without the intervention of humans - but such a hypothetical scenario seems impossible.
