I think they should open a small number of spaces on Spring Weeks/Internships to final year students, as it disproportionately attracts those who are fully aware of spring weeks/grad recruitment...and have a good amount of experience, which probably means they’re at a target. When people at mid-tier/non target unis realise what IBD recruitment is like, graduate roles are mostly full.

Thanks for the videos, they're really helpful! Could you talk about how bachelor's degrees and areas of study affect applying into IB? I'm considering applying to study economics/mathematical economics and maybe PPE in the UK but can't decide which. I think studying mathematics would be useful if I decide to do postgraduate study, would it also help when applying into IB? Also, how common is it that people from academia transfer into the financial industry?

Doing a video on this in the coming weeks. Long story short, degree discipline isn't the be all and end all. It's only 1 factor out of many (unless you are hoping to apply to very niche roles such as quantitative trading, in which case you'll need to study something very technical). As I say to many students who ask this question, focus on a subject you enjoy and can ace. You'll learn everything about the job on the job. Academia to finance is quite common.

Is a bachelors degree enough to get into these top financial firms/investment banks etc? Im in second year of a level and looking at doing a financial mathematics degree but am also looking at masters degrees in economics/stats etc. Do you have any advice ? Also great informative vids👍🏻

Thanks for the feedback and great comment. A bachelors degree is more than enough - after all, grad-schemes are for graduates who have completed an undergrad. You're way ahead of the curve given you're in A2, so hats off to you. You should prioritise securing any experience you can at present in order to strengthen your current CV (maybe prioritise finance related experience first, and anything else second). This will help you land insight weeks in your first year of uni when you get around to applying, which will then help you secure internships in your second year of uni. Perform well on your insight weeks and you'll convert them into internship offers. Perform well on your internships and you'll convert them into grad-scheme offers. Start early, play your cards right, hang around the right people, seek the right guidance, stay true to yourself, help others along the way and you'll do well :)

They are incredibly competitive. One estimate I've heard, from a student who secured numerous Spring Weeks, is that out of 10,000 applicants, only 700 get one/more Spring Weeks. However, for candidates that do get Spring Weeks, its not uncommon to get 2,3,4 or more.

It doesn't matter what you study to get into top-firms. It's more about experience (especially from networking). When I went to assessment centres for top banks everyone were from different backgrounds, from History to Liberal Arts to Economics.
