I think the people who play "just for fun" are a tiny minority, at least in jet tiers, since the game doesn't really support that. If you play something like CoD or Battlefield, you can run in without thinking, you get killed, you spawn a couple seconds later and you can try again. You can still have fun without putting in the effort. In War Thunder you have to try because if you don't you're not having fun anyway. If you just fly in blindly you'll die, you get sent back to the hangar, you pay for the repairs, then you wait for the queue and than you wait some more while you fly towards the enemy/gain alt/whatever. That's not fun even if you don't care about your statistics.

@@Spitflyer well as everyone with over a thousand hours will tell ya; it is a broken game with lazy, inconsistent devs who ignore major problems in favor of making new content and feautures because it's easier money. Yet consistently make horrible decisions that worsen the grind. Then spit in your face by making events that are famously insane grinds. That grind encourages shitty behavior from teammates, in turn actively ruining the fun the grinders try to have. It takes years to get to top tier in just one nation without paying while having to take breaks from the bullshit gaijin keeps cramming down our throats. The grind also encourages exploiting new vehicles with a reasonable br then gaijin nerfs it, grinders move on from the tank and its stats plunge then gaijin leaves it alone for years while it gets power creeped and repeat. TLDR: It makes for a game that actively tries to make you suffer to achieve your goal. Devs are famous for ignoring feedback, being lazy about fixes, horrible servers, inconsistent game mechanics, lots and lots of rant worthy crimes against the playerbase which leads to most of their players taking long breaks due to the horrific job gaijin does. Thus making the grind even l o n g e r

In regards to props being balanced the the CW-21 being an exception, I can say with utter assurance that it IS an exception to that. It's a seal-clubber beyond anything I've seen in the game. The He-100 used to be my go-to for an example of that, but after playing the CW-21, I see how bad it can be. I have played a grand total of one game in that plane. Completely, 100% stock, I got an ace in my first and only game, spaded the plane completely, and I have no desire to touch it again. Seal-clubbing is an understatement, and that game was an UP-TIER to 2.7! Imagine it at 1.0!

As long as it's a really rarely seen vehicle, yes, like a tech tree vehicle you see maybe once a month despite activity in its BR range every day you play. It may also need to be of a country not on Gaijin's (s)hitlist so that they care to cover it in their calculations.

This plane is very situational IMO. I usually get 1-2 kills with it, but i once got even 6 kills in 1 match (my team got killed and i was alone vs entire enemy team, did some kills and runned out of fuel :( ). I would play it more but it has a repair cost so high that even with 2 kills i loose SL.

I love the F11 with the Blue Angels skin. I worked so hard for it. But it's such an insanely hard jet to fly. The Chinese F-5s, those MiG-15s with the afterburners, always seem to out accelerate and out maneuver me regardless of altitude. (top speed doesn't mean jack if it takes too long to reach it) So it just sits in my hangar because of its repair cost.

Even if they did a lot of people don't play after spading or don't bother spading so they can move onto next vehicle. 20-50 games seems to be how long it takes to spade most vehicles for me. Then there's people with 1000's of games in one vehicle. The stock numbers are likely to small to cause any noticeable effect on the stats.

I think the balance problem with jets is also amplified by the fact that the avarage player is hit much harder by repair costs than experienced jet players like Spit. I really lost interest in playing my new swift f.7 when my free repairs ran out and me fucking up would result in > 10k SL repair costs. Not like I don't have SL in the bank but when I'm feeling like I'm losing all my earnings I can't really enjoy playing that vehicle.

The matchmaker problem isn't compression - decompressing is a temporary solution and the problem will come back, plus it'll take a stupid amount of time for gaijin to figure out a somewhat-balanced BR for all the vehicles around the affected BR. The problem is the amount of BR stages per game. Right now there are four - x.0, x.3, x.7 and 2x (such as 1.0, 1.3, 1.7 and 2.0). This isn't too much of an issue at lower tiers where props can outperform each other just by having a competent pilot and an altitude advantage, but this is HUGE in jet rb (and probably ground, though I don't play that). This is because high tier air RB has a huge delta in performance between each battle rating stage, and crossing so many allows ridiculous matchmakers that make balanced planes overperform and get called overpowered when its in a downtier, or absolutely suck in an uptier. The solution right now would be to tighten the amount of BRs allowed into each game, from 4 to 3. 4 to 2 would genuinely affect queue times but 4 to 3 wouldn't nearly as much, and it would be a great incentive for people to hop back into planes that used to be part of a "dead" or "suffering" battle rating, which actually improves queue times. It also allows much more refined use of the battle ratings as you don't destroy 7.3 by moving a mig or sabre down to 8.3 to avoid the shitshow of 9.7 where they were suffering, for example. It'd also stop reserve biplanes like the He51 from absolutely suffering at the hands of my Hurricane mkIIB/Trop, no idea why it isn't 2.3 because it absolutely dominates with a good turn and 12 7.7mms

Regarding the poor balancing on props,i would say a perfect showcase is the F2G-1 aka S.Corsair,this beast kills anything it sets it’s eyes on with a massive engine that can out run so many fellow props and not to mention,it has a slightly bugged feature on flaps,i personally have done this that you can extend your flaps at 780kmh~ish and despite them not visually coming down,it’s like they are down and you have suddenly a turn like a Zero

The f11 and the demon would be fine at 9.3, with more decompression. I've always thought they should add a br between .3 and .7, like .5. This would require a whole br rework for all battle types, but it would lead to a more diverse matchmaker. Things like the Sabres, which are at a very weird spot performance wise, could go to 8.5 for example.

Just one thing about the Jumbos: They were much easier to kill back when they at 4.7, this was due to pre-nerf sloping effects on some APHE (particularly Russian rounds) AND the turret mantlet was defeatable by rounds in excess of 170 mm pen. I think another problem with the balance is that you get into situations where one plane is strictly unable to compete with many things it faces in an actual match. If you have a team with half usa naval fighters, and the other team has even one or two good german fighters at high altitude, the american props get farmed. And the banshee just gets farmed at any tier unless it goes headon for a single kill.

To me, it's another indirect problem of BR comression ! If planes encounter less +1BR planes that ROFLstomp the average joe (andy), these joe's/andy's can get some kills as well and we can get better (more accurate) stats for this plane ! Also, i think there's a massive difference balancing on WR and on KD, but all these stats should be balanced by the numbers of all games played by it ! (called Sigma in stats)

I have the F-11F with the blue angels skin and I will say in terms of performance, it was worth the grind(that costed me weeks of no sleep durning summer vacation) but the repair absolutely fucked me over(at least 35,000 silver lions each death) to the point where I would have to play 6 games in the Mig 17AS in order to pay the repair cost. And this was around the time lightnings were being spammed non stopped after the f-104s were bumped up to 10.3. It was not a fun time, but the plane was worth it. Made a few lightnings rage quit and even have a clip on Xbox of me fighting in a 1v6 and I made made most of the enemy team over shoot and crash into the sea or collide into one another just to kill me. But the last one(a fellow f-11f) got to finish me off when I was slow and missing a wing tip so I saluted that guy for not being a part of the monkey train fest lol.

The F11 should sit at 9.0 It's speed is good (if not uptiered) but the complete lack in turn ability makes it useless in most situations. It can NO WAY deal with 10.3 uptiers ... if it can not run away (and be useless anyway) it can not outturn anything. You got someone faster then you on your back --> you are done. Not even to speak how hard it is, to use the guns on this winged bus and missiles that catch just unaware potatoe players. This thing isn't even dangerous in downtiers, where everybody slower can at least outturn the F11.

I really liked the point you made about balancing around the mean or the more skilled players. It's a difficult question to answer explicitly, but I think it can be addressed more easily with time. Good players catch onto the strengths of planes faster than the average joe, but given time, the average player will move to fit the meta. My proposition is to let things ride out until the regular joes figure things out. At that point it should be clear where the jet should stand.

The best way to get a feeling for what he is saying. Get a full hangar of jets ranging from 11.0 all the way to 8.0 and play air arcade. You will get in a dog fight in your phantom with a mig15 and u will see what he means

Cw 21, He100, the first corsair, bf109 f-4, xp50 are pretty much the only props off the top of my head that are better than their BR. Just like the f-11 though, the lower experience players balance out the statistics by not exploiting the extreme advantage of the plane to the extent that the veterans of the game can. Also they are all pretty low tier so the average experience flying overall is lower which would contribute to lower stats per plane Edit: the first non-float zero as well
