People really need to stop blindly idolizing Valve and Steam and start looking at just how shitty they really are instead of trying to stack other corporations against Steam to excuse Valve and Steam's shortcomings that have been shortcomings for decades. Those shortcomings should not exist after decades of pleas from their customers. Just because some game launcher / store fronts choose to do things differently or more simplistically, doesn't mean they are bad. It just means the corporation doesn't want to overcomplicate their client / store like Valve has with Steam. No launcher is perfect, but Steam is especially imperfect in all too many ways. Just because it has a lot of options and features doesn't mean they carry a lot of weight to make it a substantially noteworthy thing. Steam is not king anymore and the proof is more than visible in many of the Steam designs, marketing strategies and features that either don't exist or are broken. Let me give you a few examples. There's no ability to manage group ACLs properly. There is no means to mass message group members to deliver messages when notifications from announcements never seem to work. What's the point of having groups if you can't do shit all with them to make them better? Just because it's a feature in Steam doesn't mean Steam is king shit. A broken feature is a broken feature. Missing features are missing features. Valve knows it could make it all better, but they don't care. Another big problem is Early Access on Steam. Dare I mention the disasters that Valve allows to pass through their Early Access program that is incomplete or unplayable upon full release? Not very consumer friendly of Valve to not even care to protect their members from scammers and thieves who have no intention of finishing their games. Great example - Outlaws of The Old West. Dead game produced by a bunch of scammers (publisher and developer) who have no intention of actually completing the game. It's just smoke and mirrors. Valve has ignored all requests for refunds for the game being so broken and unplayable. I could list off problems in Steam all day long, but I'm sure you get the gist of things. Just because a launcher has a whole whack of features that are half assed or broken doesn't make it the most superior launcher or platform on the planet. People just like to idolize Valve and freely promote them just like people do Google, Apple or other brands they are fanatical over. Brand fanning isn't good because all it does is enable these big giants to become more lazy and greedy as they're being allowed and supported to get away with it.

This is my exact thoughts about Steam as well as EVERY other games launcher.. These big-name companies are inherently trying to tell us how we should be allowed to own our games, hence why I always buy physical copies of console games. Our current state of gaming is just so so sad. I can't rely on any game launcher because more than half of them collect info from your PC without your consent. Why else do you think having more than one game launcher slows down your PC? If I ever download a digital game on my PC, chances are it's either illegally pirated because fuck big corporations or steam family shared from a relative's account. Can we take a minute to discuss how BROKEN steam family sharing is? I have to get the damn fucking thing re-authenticated every single week. It's more of a hassle to play games legitimately than it is to just pirate the game and play as you please. Best part about it is that you actually OWN THE GAME when you pirate them. Meanwhile if you get banned from Steam or Playstation Network you lose access to the games YOU BOUGHT. I've never been banned tbh from either service but I must say, that's some really bad business practice.

I know this is an older video but nothing has changed, yes gotten worse. I am a linux user and I use to LOVE steam. Use to... Unfortunately Steam is only getting worse. Honestly, I think all of you - uploader included - are missing the point. Steam is an unnecessary third party between the publisher and the end user. You don't own the things you buy, you are essentially leasing them through Steam. It's fucking absurd, and it should be illegal. When I buy a piece of software, I don't want some third party telling me when/if I can play it, when it needs to be upgraded, which account I can play it on (hint: I'm always me, always have been, always will be). Saying something like 'Origin is better', or 'I hope gog takes over' is missing the point entirely. All these third-party assholes can fuck right off. We don't need them, we shouldn't support them. The things we pay for should be owned by us, not some middle man acting as a jukebox. You don't need a jukebox to play a game.

steam got games that can bore you instantly you start playing or after a few minutes. f2p games on other platforms are great but steam f2p games are trash. its very buggy and non-responsive too also steam is overrated. i started using steam in 2019 but i quit t6oday. epic games feels more user friendly. only the extra features, community market and such bs make steam still the first choice of every person. for me, its just bs. they need money for everything. spend at least 5$ to review games, adding friends, customize and decorate profile and literally do everything except playing games. i understand we have to pay for games but why for adding friends and everything? steam in simple words is a "money hog" edit: whenever i open steam, it starts updating. if i open it 12 times a day then i saw it 12 times. i know steam is not giving any updates every second, none of the companies like apple, android and microsoft even do that. so how steam giving updates every single second?

Steam is just really bad, valve is really bad. They are aware of issues but they ain't do anything 'bout them. You face so many network issues on steam app for following: accepting trade offers, loading inventories , loading steam offers, loading pages. Keeps giving thousands of errors for the same freaking reason: overloaded servers. Haha, then limit the content if you can't handle what you put up there, do not add more features if they ain't gonna be handled by the servers. They make hundreds of millions and give sh it services instead of quality product. Also download speeds issued, anticheats, the whole system is a rubbish and then a lvl on the platform costs so much. Hope they'll die but is not even an option, they already became rich.
