I'm curing sauerkraut, which each pint calls for 1 and 1/2 tsp of vinegar. I canned 4 pints of hamburger dill slices, which I believe, called for equal parts of vinegar & water. I use those pickles on hamburgers, but also in deviled eggs, potato salad, tuna salad and chicken salad. I was traveling with my husband when my leg became infected with pseudonymous, probably from a travel center shower, or so I suspect. My dermatologist at the time, cured that bacterial infection by having me soak the wound in a solution of vinegar & sterile water 3 times daily, for 5 to 10 minutes. In my case, it was 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water. I was told that a 1 to 12 ratio could even be effective, though a much weaker solution. Those are some of the ways that I find / learned that vinegar is useful to have on hand.

When we bought our property about 10 years ago I found a pair of pliers that were totally rusted and would not open. I found a tall narrow bucket, filled it with vinegar, submerged the pliers. Within two days the rust was gone, I dried them well, sprayed WD-40 now the pliers are in my tool closet.

I have seen many places on the internet that say that vinegar is great for cleaning glass top stoves. I did this. I am here to tell you DON'T. The vinegar ate through the black paint on the trim pieces on my counter top stove. It also altered the gasket around the top-and allowed things to leak into the cupboards underneath.

I love using vinegar, I started using it to clean the bathroom back when Covid entered our lives. I also found thst when I made your lemon curd recipe I would save the lemon pieces (or oranges) and I put them in a half gallon jar and fill up with vinegar. I would just keep adding to it. Sorry if it's tmi, but I discovered (thanks to antibiotics) that a combination of salt and vinegar in a sitz bath is excellent for stopping yeast, about 2c of vinegar to 1c of salt in as hot of water as you can tolerate, and if you can do this a couple times a day it works better. It usually stops discomfort and itching immediately. The longer I've used it, the fewer flare ups I've had trouble with over time.

Adding apple cider vinegar to our dogs drinking water (1 tsp a quart) was recommended by the staff at Battersea Dogs Home. They give it routinely to all dogs at their famous dogs home, and said it helps with canine arthritis. (Yes, we adopted an older dog. I have a soft spot for the oldies.)

@Jason Barnett they love it with the ACV. As for choice, we all know dogs will always find the rankest puddle to slurp. I simply mentioned it as we should prep for our pets too, and sometimes our preps have dual purpose, like ACV.

@@liberty8424 ACV can't do any harm, diluted! IDK if its the softened water, or trace nutrients, or what. Just what the dog experts tell me. I have whole body RA and think keeping weight down is the best thing for knees. It was also recommended many years ago for cystitis, mixed with honey & hot water, but I can't recall the quantities. For sure, I keep a minimum of 5L of ACV handy.

Apple cider vinegar, without the mother, is what my boyfriend used to unclog his hair follicles and almost all of his hair grew back. Our old hairstylist recommended to try that before any hair loss/re-growth medications as they can cause permanent side effects. He soaked his scalp in the vinegar before shampooing, then conditioned as usual. Now the fullness has returned to the top of his hairdo....no more scalp shining through.

Lots of good uses. In fact I just used it on my shower head recently. I could tell that holes in the shower head were clogged as it was spraying out like little pinholes, and it actually hurt your skin. I soaked it for several hours, and now it is good as new.

Clothing, linens, etc stubborn 'folds or creases' that will NOT iron out, just spray or dab full strength vinegar on the folds then iron over them. Folds will be permanently gone. I learned this in Home Ec in the '70's.

A shot of ACV stops heartburn instantly. It was the only thing that worked for me while pregnant. It also is fantastic for the gut. I use white vinegar to clean my coffee maker - run it through a few times and then just run through clean water.

Just brilliant! So much good information. In 2015 my area had torrential rain and a 1000 year flood. My house is elevated on stilts and didn't flood but one afternoon I noticed that my floor felt wet & my socks were wet. By the time I woke next morning everything in my house was covered with mold. Every surface looked like a petri dish. A remediation company cleaned & sanitized and took my fabric furniture to their facility to clean. They told me to wash all my clothing, linen, etc. for 2 wash cycles with vinegar. It killed the mold and I was surprised to find that nothing smelled like vinegar.

I'm so sorry you went through that! My brothers house went through Huricane Ike the whole town was at least a foot deep in water (@ the house anyway). Then we removed the drywall where it was wet and sprayed the wood down with clorox bleach so it would prevent mold growth. I pray that doesn't happen again.

I had a funky smell in my kitchen sink drain that just wouldn't go away. I sprinkled baking soda and let it set for a while, then I poured enough vinegar down the drain to react with the soda and I let that set for a while. Then I ran the dishwasher, which sent enough water through the pipes to completely wash it all away. There is ZERO smell in my sink now, and it's been at least a month.

I use vinegar on my hair once or twice a month to remove product buildup, hair gel, etc. It also is useful to neutralize urine odor. I couldn't afford disposable diapers back in the early 80's so my babies were in cloth diapers. I would occasionally soak the diapers in diluted vinegar after washing them and hung them outside to dry.

Most of the world still uses cloth. I chose to use cloth on my kids. The cloth diaper market isn't what it was - not only economical & environmentally friendly but it's become a fashion statement as well! Good on you for being a cloth mama!!

Some covers come lined (fleece or other material) but will still need an absorbent material added. Most are made with PLU so it will hold in moisture but will still be breathable to avoid rashes.

When I moved into my new apt the linoleum tiles were stained dark. I tried everything then I read on line to use vinegar, it works great! I spayed some on and used a brush and those old tiles brightened up so nice and clean! Hydrogen peroxide cleans blood much better than vinegar. Just pour it on full strength let it sit for a while, (it will bubble)then rinse and wash. If stains have been setting a long time you might need to repeat the process again and it does not bleach out the color of your clothes. I’ve used it on all kinds of fabric and it work great! I’ve let it set for days and it doesn’t harm the fabric. Hope this helps someone. I learned these 2 tricks this last year. No matter how old you get you can still learn something new.

It's easy to make your own vinegar, using fruit scraps, sugar and water, if you run out in a grid-down situation. It does take a couple weeks, though. I use a chopped apple and whatever other fruits I have on hand. Lately, I've been making a lot of citrus vinegar using leftover grapefruit, lemon, lime, and/or orange rinds.

We often spend days at the beach and grab supper at the marina. There are not public restrooms to wash our hands after digging in the sand and scouring for beach glass (and my daughter's favourite--fish bones). But there are bottles of vinegar with the condiments, so I'll pour a little over our hands and give a good rub. Makes me feel a little better about eating our burgers with our hands. Will also ask for vinegar packets at a fast food drive thru if they don't have wet wipes and use it to clean my hands.

I just did a prewash in hot water on my towels adding vinegar, I do this about once a month, I am always surprised at how much soap comes to the top and I only use about half the recommended amount per load, our clothes don't get that dirty we are a retired couple and about the only time ours get extremely dirty is after working in the yard. The towels always come out smelling wonderful and so soft, I use all unscented products due to my extreme reaction to some odors, but for some reason, vinegar isn't one of them. Thank You for another great video, I also use vinegar to repel ants and kill weeds in the cracks of the driveway and sidewalk.

@@YeshuaKingMessiah I don't use a fabric softener or dryer sheets, I guess I'm a little weird about having a chemical film on my clothes, towels and sheets and then that product against my skin 24 hours a day but I have a lot of chemical sensitivities that cause skin irritation, allergies, etc. But that is just me, I've had these problems since I was small, mom had to discontinue several cleaners and soaps.

We use wool dryer balls. But I’m trying the white vinegar too as I have a teen with severe eczema so it may help rinse every bit of soap out better. We use Norwex body & face cloths also-wash w/no soap!

My personal favorite is one you didn't mention. I have dentures and even with daily brushing, calcium will build up on them. The EASIEST!!! way to get rid of the calcium is NOT to chip away at it (might damage the dentures), but soak the dentures overnight in Apple Cider vinegar! It dissolves the calcium and what doesn't directly dissolve is softened enough that a tooth brush will easily remove it. For a heavy calcium buildup, 2 or 3 nights will do it completely.

This is a very old method of eliminating any soap residue for dark or medium hair. Blondes used lemon juice. I use vinegar in the rinse compartment in my washer to get every last bit of detergent out. I don't need to use fabric softener. I also put about 1/3 cup of baking soda in the washer tub to aid in detergent cleaning. Soap or detergent residue make fabrics stiff. I use baking soda on the hottest setting for cleaning clothes washer and dishwasher. It cleans well without doing damage.

I keep a spray bottle handy in the bathroom for spraying my shower curtain liner & fiberglass shower stall....1/2 cup white vinegar, 1&1/2 cups water; you can add a few drops of essential oil (lavender is nice) if you want. Cuts down on soap scum, no rinsing needed, & no harsh chemical smell!

P.s. not only Clorox brand but any chlorine bleach (for beginners) Also, to kill weeds, the ultimate is to add 1 cup salt, 2 T dish soap, and 1 gal vinegar. Dissolve the salt in the vinegar. Your hair is adorable today! Thank you for ur videos! I was trying 2 bleach shirts like reverse tye dye them one evening. Had done it several times before. Well this time I forgot to rinse the bleach out before I put it in the vinegar to neutralize the bleach..... Still regret that to this day. Could hardly breath. Was irritated and coughed for weeks and weeks. Can't handle smell good or perfume things any more. I'm highly sensitive to things that are prepelled by aerosols. And I just found out I have COPD. I used to sell Avon in East TX when I was25. I would be out selling and delivering the goods when my kids were in school. One elderly couple would buy a lot of goods from me. One day we were talking and the gentleman told me that acv got rid of his dandruff. Ever since then I knew some of the good results from using the acv on my hair. We have used white vinegar water to spray on cuts and scrapes to avoid infection. I also use apple cider vinegar and water to rinse my hair instead of putting on conditioner. It leaves my hair tangle free and it controls my dandruff

as a textile artist: animal products (you, your hair, wool, silk, even leather to a point) all like it acid. you use vinegar to dye wool, eggs, to rinse your hair and skin, to do a final rinse on wool. PLANT products like it base: use baking soda in the rinse for linen, cotton, and hemp fibers. so basically if you are washing your cotton you may use baking soda to treat a sweat stain, but not wool. there is a reason your grandmother would wash her LINEN in lye soap... linen likes it even more base than cotton! since most carpets that were not rag rugs were wool (oriental carpets were/are wool or silk) it made sense to use diluted vinegar to clean stains.

One thing that I use White Vinegar is: Spray on stainless steel cookware add a little baking soda to your dishrag and is a GREAT cleaner. My pans are 10 years old and you would not know it, they are still shiny and bright! When I was younger I got stung by a hornet. Granny cile made a paste of vinegar and baking soda not sure what it does but it did feel better!! Thanks so much for putting these videos out!!! Wonderful reminders of how much use vinegar has. And...it saves money not buying the expensive cleaners. I was in high school in the 60's as well.

So if you have smelly dog beds; blankets your cat peed on; baby throw up; old sleeping bags, etc. I wash in hot (in the newer washers they have all the extra buttons) I put them all! Older washer use every option and maybe an extra extra rinse. I use Pre wash long soak sanitize whatever else and extra rinse so it washes for an hour 15min+ I use 1-2 C Borox 1-2 C Apple cider vinegar AND your reg. Detergent. Removes all yellow, all smells and wella! If towels got mildewed- works great. Most of time I use 1C of each and half my reg detergent. P.s. When my cat would pee on my blanket I'd put a safety pin there so when it came out I knew exactly where to look and smell.

I keep a spray bottle filled with water, 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 T Dawn for cleaning. Also pet accidents.

I discovered that sprinkling a good amount of salt, then spraying vinegar, on my ceramic non-stick pan cleans better than baking soda with vinegar. I wipe the mixture with a sponge or, if needed, a nylon scrubber. The salt is both mildly, and safely, abrasive and also absorbent. The combination creates sodium acetate and hydrogen chloride - info for the chemists in the group.

I keep distilled vinegar and Bragg's ACV in the pantry, since I cannot distill vinegar, and Bragg's is just so GOOD! Yum! I make vinegar for cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. I, too, keep it in a spray bottle, and usually will add so essential oils like tea tree or oregano, for the scent and sanitizing abilities. I wash vegetables in a diluted solution of white vinegar. White vinegar is great to de-rust old cast iron, as you showed in a video. I don't have nice stone countertops or things like that, so It's safe for my applications. I also use it as a laundry rinse; it is very dilute in the washer, but still cuts the soap. Citrus vinegar is nice for cleaning, although vinegar can be made from any plant material (as a scientist you probably already know this, of course!). Mine always comes out to pH 3 or 2.5. I make rose petal vinegar every year as a hair rinse. Since I make my own soap for bathing and hair cleansing, a dilute solution of vinegar to restore the acid mantle of the skin and hair is healthful. It's also a lot cheaper than commercial hair care products....not judging; your hair, ma'am, is GORGEOUS! Just as an aside, thank you for the quality presentations. Delivery and excellent English language. I peek at some channels when the algorithm recommends them; but it nothing cogent is said within the first 30 seconds, I bail out. So thank you, Pam and Jim.

Another very informative video. It brought back lots of memories of using on my hair when it was very dark brown. I just did my shower head last week. Lots of new ideas here, thank you so much for all you and Jim do to keep us informed. God Bless.
