@@RetroGamerBB it is full of bugs. The arcade game was so bad and unbalanced that Capcom decided to remake the game for the consoles version. Also it was rushed so much they forgot to add a block animation in any version of the game. BUT the main reason why it flopped wasn't even incredible technology, the people behind the game. It was the actors themselves. While the characters filmed in Mortal Kombat all had martial arts backgrounds, most actors in Street Fighter the movie had never thrown a punch before in their life and the only one who had a martial arts background was high as a kite and only put in 4 hours of bluescreen work for the game.

The movie deserves to exist purely for Raul Julia’s performance utterly OTT camp brilliance while others (John Claude van damm) thought they were making something at least half serious Raul. Knew exactly what he was involved in and played to the back of the hall brilliantly Also the back story of him doing it for his kids while dying of cancer was both heartbreaking and heartwarming

That's what it was like back in the day for a lot of people. I played turbo on the 3DO, with the tiny rubbery play/pause button on my infrared wireless controller as light punch 😂 In retrospect it's no wonder that I couldn't do any of the special moves but (controller notwithstanding) it was as close to arcade perfect as you could get back in the 90s. Back then I had no idea they even sold six button pads 😅

This was a really excellent video for such a new channel. Very impressed! I'm a new sub. But yeah, Street Fighter II might be the ultimate example of "too many cooks" spoiling a good thing in Hollywood. And the thing I find tragic about this? Steven DeSouza was genuinely talented. Between his behind-the-scenes knowledge and excellent writing skills, he absolutely could have been a good director. But this one nightmare of a production turned his big break into a career-killer.

Well, that was very informative. But when I read the title of the video I was expecting it to be about why the characters look so cosmetically different from their in game counterparts. Chun Li in Red, Vega with black hair, Guile without the broom on top of his head, etc.

As a street fighter fan as a kid, I had some of the GI JOE Street Fighter movie collection figures. I remember having Blanka, Bison, Ken, Chun Li, some Guile variants (including one with a water-shooting-gun), Sagat, at some point I remember a Dhalsin among my figures, but I can not remember my mom giving me one, so I think a friend just left it at my house. To this day I can remember how awesome I thought they were and how much fun I had with them. They had the just the perfect size and mobility to my hands and imagination and I created many stories with them, most of them closer to the movie then to games. The ideia of a mastermind villain hideout with a team of minions, a spying supercomputer was vivid in my mind, so the stories had this kind of tone, and, of course, using other joes and figures of other collections. The bigger figures (had some batman and the mask cartoon ones) were evil robots!!

I think Hasbro’s main failure here was identifying the demand for Street Fighter, then trying to change the IP to suit what they wanted to sell instead of what kids wanted to buy. Back in the 90’s I was hooked on action figures, and weirdly loved the film in all of its goofy glory - but the Street Fighter figures looked like (and were) cheap repaints of existing GI Joe figures. The market had also clearly shifted to 6” figures as they were more detailed and boasted far more features and articulation.

Fantastic documentary, rarely seen anything of this quality in both content, research and overall aestatic on youtube like, probably ever. Big thumbs up, instant subscription. Also kinda amazing that they got a somewhat decent popcorn-night movie made. Yes, it is bad, and even having seen it as a kid that liked JCVD-movies and Street Fighter made me realize that it wasn't great. But under all of these circumstances and with those many curveballs being thrown, it's a miracle that they even got something made and the whole thing didn't get scrapped altogether. I guess we'll have to rethink the movie and give more praise to the director. Many times in this documentary I had to pause the video to shake my head in disbelieve, thinking it can't go much worse than this. Everything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong. And I'm sure not much of that is the fault of the director. The movie was basically destined to fail (content-wise), so all things considered we actually got an amazingly good movie here. And I'm not even joking.

At least the game has aged well I suppose. Still can't quite believe it's not even the worst SF movie with The Legend of Chun Li taking that honour. If I were Capcom's CEO in the early-90s: Street Fighter II Movie (1994), would not be an OVA but instead a live-action blockbuster extravaganza starring Dean Cain as Ryu. I would also talk Brandon Lee into turning down The Crow (1994) and pay him a fortune just to play thee Ken Masters. Then I would get Steven Spielberg of Jurassic Park (1993) to direct because he's a big-budget filmmaker who also loves gaming.

As game-2-movie adaptations generally didn't go well, the (first) Mortal Kombat movie did a great job and set the bar for future game-2-movie adaptions. So Street Fighter: The Movie had its work cut out for it. After MK movie, I watched SF movie with great expectations, but was dissapointed, and not even a little. Funny, as I actually expected not to like the MK movie, since it weren't the same people of the game that represented the characters (which I expected, since they were digitized characters in the game). The SF movie, although had great and well known actors representing the characters, felt more like a cringy slapstick movie. Jean Claude Van Damme probably did the movie, because he regretted turning down Ed Boon and John Tobias on being Johnny Cage in the original game. I think the SF movie might have been better if it was combination of the movie Wrong Bet, BloodSport and The Quest, especially as a first movie.

I used to have the entire G.I. Joe series of those Street Fighter figures as a kid. Guile was my favorite figure in that series.

Ok i gotta ask.. do you own a theater or manager of one? These and the cinema channel all in a theater to yourself or have you guy's just made enough to reinvest in these other channels to be able to rent out the room and such? Love these and all the other's. So much more than wrestling

Street Fighter: The Ultimate Battle (1994) was not a bad movie, but it is a weak adaptation like the Double Dragon movie. The true bad movie is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009).

I started to make a comment about Bozigian mid video. 92 was actually the second highest year for sales according to Kirk. They had managed to give Joe a shot in the arm but as G. Wayne Miller’s toy wars book details, internal politics was shaking Hasbro up and sadly Joe was caught in the crossfire and morphed after 94 and died quickly there after

"Quick! Change the channel!" "You got... paid?" The comedy, when it was good, was freaking gold in this movie. The movie isn't good, at all, but I have a soft spot for it to this day!

If you've never heard Grand L. Bush's 5 minute speech about "becoming the Balrog," I suggest you seek it out because it is one of the best, weirdest things you'll ever hear. If I had a nickel for every time a large Samoan man was cast as a Japanese sumo, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Kids TV in the 80s may have been a massive toy commercial but Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats MASK and Teenage Mutant Ninja (or Hero for those of us in the UK) Turtles were 🤬 amazing... honourable mention to the short-lived Dino Riders cartoon
