I live in Tokyo, and the amount of suits I see every day is crazy. Pretty much any position that is considered salaryman/shakaijin (White collar jobs outside of service) requires you to wear a suit, People working in IT, in front of a computer all day are often forced to wear suits as well. Also, students graduating, attending interviews, or during their first year of working at a new company, all wear black suits. And men have to cut their hair short, and keep it black. Men over 40 almost all wear old fashion suits, men in their 20's and 30's tend to wear slim fit. This kind of ruins the image of the suit, there's just so many people, looking the same, wearing cheap crappy black suits.

@stevepasquarella8235 жыл бұрын
Just to let you know, no American naturally speaks with his accent. That is not an accent of any region in our country. What he has essentially done is starting 10+ years ago he began speaking like Americans used to in the 40's. Primarily in the New York City/Chicago areas (as you can see in all of the classic movies). It's his persona. It's like when a gay man decides to speak in a female tone. It is not natural, rather it is unnatural. It is doctored, It's a gimmick. However, it does what it is supposed to do. The 40's style accent with the 40's style suits and hairstyle are the persona of what his persona is. As for pronunciation, that is a simple as whether or not someone is educated , how fast they speak and if they frequently like to abbreviate and use slang. For example I can say in a formal situation "What are you talking about?" Or, I can say informally and with slang, "Whattaya talkin' bout'?" It only depends on your dialects and just for some extra food for thought, look at how many actors (who are not considered A-list world famous) who do entire movies playing a character from a completely different country with different accents.

The cost of fabric in a slim fit vs. boxy fit suit is a negligible cost. By far the greater cost is labor, which is actually greater with tailoring. I would argue that slim fit is a reflection of the current body ideals for both men and women. Fashionable jeans, which opposite to suits, have become more and more accepted in varying circumstance are also slimmer than they have been in this past. This is true for both men and women's fashion.
@PaulKapow5 жыл бұрын
Lady_Sir_Knight I agree with this comment
@InnuendoXP5 жыл бұрын
I think tailoring is a cost when you're talking about clothes made to measure. But as far as mass production goes, economies of scale matter, and tailoring won't be a distinction because the templates are there, the standard sizes and internal dimensions have all been developed by the brand or its manufacturer, all fit types of their entire range will have a consistent fit by size, it isn't bespoke, and the manufacturing process won't be significantly different. Half a yard of fabric saved per suit across several thousand units of any given size isn't negligible. It isn't a lot on its own either, but it's one of many decisions of economy made that will add up to substantially reduced cost percentage of materials for either shareholder dividends, undercutting the competition, and the suit survive last months to years less wear reintroducing the buyer to the market sooner than they otherwise would have. So everybody wins, except the person who gets to wear the suit. Though I think form-fitting suits are increasingly fashionable largely because form-fitting (or revealing) everything has stayed fashionable or become increasingly fashionable for the past couple of decades. They've figured out how to get men to buy accessory bags, seasonal wardrobe, and gym memberships for reasons other than bodybuilding, they aren't about to stop now. The more they can market form-revealing clothes, the more potential insecurities can be further marketed to.

I hate how suits are disappearing. I just had my 21st and I went and got myself a nice suit jacket to go to the restaurant. When I got to this fancy restaurant, I was the only one with a suit jacket in the entire restaurant. One guy was wearing a sports jersey and cap. Such a shame
@gwolf69755 жыл бұрын
The guy in the cap should be escorted out, but its no longer the standard anymore that's important, especially when folks go on and pay for it anyway, even if the ire isn't any standard for a resturant, just look at fast food,,,shittyest restaurants on the planet making billions every year..
@gwolf69755 жыл бұрын
James Smith i think this was in reference to the resturant dress code, ill break it down: if the resturant is a dog gone common sense formal or at least semi formal attire establishment, has a historic reputation for being so, and people come there partially because of this, like suit guy said " on special occasions", then that's the prescident, that's what its historicly there for, to cater to customers looking for this experience. Most of the time you would probably label how I dress as grungy. T shirt and cargo pants in the summer and I'm done....but not at a steak house where people go to celebrate graduations and anniversaries,,get it? As far as fast food making bank, the amount of bank like any other business depends on many factors. One donut shop has better name recognition where I live than another, so the other even though it was good, didn't do well. Resturants that are suvsessfull generally increase sales over time,that is the goal, Mcdonalds started small and got bigger, partially because Ray crock set standards. Wal-Mart is another great example for business growth, Sam waltons quality control established the name recognition that primed super centers success.

How hard is it to understand that if someone likes blue, they wear blue. Not to be cool or fashionable, that's just a color they like. Same with how I enjoy suits, just what I like. Interesting take, Review Brah. As a woman I like the look of the '70s YSL suits, with the slim fitting jacket and wide leg pants. I think they look kind of strange on men though. The only guy I ever thought looked good in them was Bowie. For men I really like the suits that were popular in the 30s before they turned into the zoot suits that were so prevalent during the swing era. Maybe those will come back. I do really like the one you have on here, the fabric is immaculate.

Can I just say: I always really liked the look of 80's and early 90's suits much more than today's, and I'm glad there's someone with a platform still keeping them going. I don't know what it is, but those shoulder pads just always did something for me. We need to bring those back. The shoulder pads were symbols of utter power.

Slim fitting suits also require the wearer to buy a new one more readily if their proportions change, be that height (for younger people) or weight. It also means you might need to get your suit tailored, which is more money in businesses' pockets.

I think the slim cuts have persisted because fitted clothing has always looked good on people. Baggy suits were a more specific style, like baggy jeans and oversized band shirts in the 90s. You look great in them.
@obvioushieidude76685 жыл бұрын
"Slim cuts have always looked good on people". That is purely subjective. Not everyone likes the look of slim suits or slim clothing in general. In any cause, this does not justify the trend of making everything "slim". This trend cannot and will not last forever.
@DDaannyy165 жыл бұрын
StatingTheObviousDude you misquoted there, ‘fitted clothing has always looked good on people’ is a perfectly correct statement. Something doesn’t have to be ‘slim fit’ to be ‘fitted’
@ShiftyTribes5 жыл бұрын
@@obvioushieidude7668 lol you are delusional. Every human finds the human form appealing, first comment is right, its not a specific "Trend" its just that literally everyone enjoys looking at others bodies in some shape and gender, whether you admit it or not.for example reviewbrahs suit is all about the suit itself, the clothes are the endgame of the outfit. Slim fit stuff is less about a specific style and the clothes themselves, they are essentially just a wrapping paper with which to show the form of your anatomy, go figure with everything being overly sexualized these days.

@@ShiftyTribes Idiot, not everyone finds clothing that accentuates the human form appeling. Especially if that person is out of shape (which most people who were these slim fit suits/clothes are). I just posted a comment yesterday on another video about what you thought about these ridiculous looking tight suits today, and today I found this. Interesting hearing your thoughts on the subject. I agree that they are trying to produce the suit with as little fabric as possible and charge top dollar. It seems to me that the slim fit style only works for people who are slender or who work out regularly. Even then I think it looks silly.

@wargreymon3235 жыл бұрын
I think you're ignoring two things: Making suits nore fitting isn't necessarily cheaper simply because they use less fabric. Making them list means that more people can wear it. Slimmer suits means more sizes/cuts which makes this more complicated and this more expensive. Also, I think the fashion industry in general is pushing to make suits more casual to account for this decrease in suit usage. There definitely are high luxury suits that are doing what you say but some are trying to make the suit less of a formal piece and just something you wear on a Friday night out. I think the increase in unstructured jackets is an example of this.

I have worn good suits even when it was not required of me; I feel comfortable in them, and I figure it makes sense to get as much mileage as I can get from my most expensive garments. What I found was that nobody else was hurt by it. In fact, in wearing them, I was garnering attention that I might not otherwise have had: I had others talk to me about how much they liked my ties; I had people, whose names I did not even know / with whom I had yet to become fully acquainted, recognize me by what I wore; I was regarded as the best-dressed person in the building. It is really quite amazing what is afforded to a person who aims to dress in this way. The opportunity to make a positive impression on many levels-and to feel comfortable while doing it-is right in front of our faces and is simple to take advantage of... so, why not take it? Of the many opportunities in life, this one is among the very few that are more or less handed on a silver platter.
