People keep saying Shadow took them off to beat Knuckles, that's actually not true. When Knuckles caught Shadow's spin dash and threw him, Knuckles also slipped the inhibitors off of Shadow in that moment. For Knuckles, he needed a quick way to take Shadow down, and removing the inhibitors was absolutely the fastest way to do so, Knuckles simply didn't realize how hard Shadow would hit him. Rouge then states that it was actually a pretty smart move.

If you notice in both his fight against Knuckles in Sonic X, and his fight against Mephiles in Sonic 06, Shadow only removes *_TWO_* of his *_FOUR_* inhibitor rings. Knuckles, who could literally punch the Super out of someone, and Mephiles, an actual deity, required Shadow to only go up to 50%.

@ what I ment by “Adaptive” for Sonic is that he’s got some natural chaos energy already like his super sonic speed, nature of wind and lightning, and his most common feat: boosting before frontiers. He’s more tuned to the given nature of things. He can do tornados by spinning, and his homing dash/attack. However to pull off the stuff shadow does accounting for his doom abilities and natural ones, he needs a super form to do the chaos lance/spear, teleport/snap, and other chaos based abilities. Sonic is the best at NATURAL chaos control, using the elements and surroundings to his advantage. This includes his natural ability of quick adaptivity on different situations. Shadow is a synthetic creature that has direct power and ties TO the emeralds powers and dooms abilities. He’s a living embodiment of SYNTHETIC power. Sonic GREW to adapt the powers of chaos for its nature through his HEART to be and do good. Shadow was CREATED via Chaos and doom to represent the POWER of chaos. Shadow is a walking synthetic living chaos emerald almost, while Sonic is a natural being who’s adapted its power from time to time.

The previous comment I'm talking about control of the energy basically instead of having all the energy be internal and screw up his body eventually figure out how to manifest it outside but maintain it for something like a chaos armor and then eventually his body would adapt to certain levels of chaos energy during training usually paired with physical training that way he wouldn't need to externally manifest the armor in order to use his powers fully because the armor is supposed to allow him to use 100% efficiency of whatever power he has but when he trains enough where he doesn't need it his body and or energy networks kind of like chalker networks from Naruto.

Pretty much he can only use his inhibitor ring Trump card at the most important moments because it can severely injured him. It’s truly a gamble. Ironically, his greatest strength can be his greatest weakness. He can go all out, maybe defeat his enemies, but at a cost. He really is the ultimate life form. But he doesn’t let it go to his head. He’s been in enough battles to know even he has limits. It’s why he’s so focused on the objective.
