Why Tamil Nadu's Jaderi 'namakatti' got a GI tag

The Jaderi namakatti was given the GI tag by the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai recently.
Jaderi namakatti are clay sticks that are white in colour, usually available in finger-like shape with a smooth texture. The application seeking tag for this product was filed by Jaderi Tiruman (Namakatti) Producers Society. Jaderi is a small village in Tiruvannamalai district. There are around 120 families in Cheyyar taluk whose primary occupation has been making namakatti for more than hundreds of years now.

Incase of high body heat or stomach pain due to heat, My mom used to apply the paste on naval cause it had a cooling effect....

Iam from Andhra Pradesh. Here we call them as naama pallu(నామ పళ్ళు). My grandma used to apply this on my stomach whenever I have stomach ache related to hot summer climate. Even used to apply this on my fore head. We are vizagites and simhadri appanna is our home god so we frequently used to visit the god on simhachalem. Where they used to sell abundunts of naama pallu in different types in childhood. I have two children and I use naama pandu whenever they have fever or the climate is very hot

it will work if you use any sort of clay not just naama pallu, you see elephants used to pour clay on their skin to keep them safe from scorching sun. When the cold clay is applied it will take away heat from your body and keep you cool.

Just info to you all.. I am a Sri vaishnavaite, so keep 12 thitumans daily. I live in Europe for work reasons. Thiruman or nammam is perumal's thiruvadi. So, the white thiruman is perumal's thiruvadi (feet) and red one is thayar'a thiruvadi. We surrender to them and have the supreme's thiruvadi on our forehead. And all those bagwadas helping us to get the nammakaati gets their moksham by default. That's their kayankarya parpthi.

My mom used to apply it on heat boils in the eys lids during summer and it would go down in hours and the next day it will go away...it's very cooling and cost is very cheap a fond memories from my childhood days...it's always available as a household remedy.

No do not go to the govt. the quality will not be assured by the corrupt officials specially both the Dravida thugs. Instead you can take a loan under Mundra scheme for purchasing the mud from a nationalised bank in your village. Only thing is you should keep repaying the loan regularly
