In Haryana too, Sumo was taxi king when launched. But given Haryana's adrenaline levels (made notorious by Haryana Roadways bus drivers)..... A very powerful engine = very high speed, and high ground clearance = high center of mass. Sumo started toppling on those narrow roads with a lot of sharp turns those days.

Tata sumo is the king of Northeast Indian states. Tata harrier is such a huge car but comes only with FWD & is too pricy. Even in 15 lacs it doesnot offer keyless entry which is one of the negative point.

Sumo had a beautiful ground clearance = it became it's problem. बहुत बड़ा इंजन था उस समय के हिसाब से (शायद मिलिट्री के लिये बनाने की वजह से)। बेटा तब आप शायद पैदा भी नहीं हुए थे, जब सवारियों से भरी सुमो सौ पार करती थी जबकि दूसरी गड़ियाँ 80 के लिये तड़पती थी। सड़कें सौ भगाने के लायक नहीं, पतली थी, और तेज मोड़ होते थे। High ground clearance = high center of mass. High center of mass + high speed + छत पर बैठी सवारियाँ या भारी सामान + तेज मोड़। एक ग्रामीण के शब्दों में -- > सुम्मो घणी राजी हो कै पलटै सै। Sumo is *topple-happy.* When we had not as many vehicles as today, a "jeep" toppling would make a news. And the news of a Sumo toppling was, at one point, an everyday affair. लोगों ने शादियों में ले जानी कम कर दी। और कमाई घटने की वजह से भाड़े पर चलाने वालों ने इसे लेना कम कर दिया। Here ends the Sumo story.

I don't care which tata car is selling and which is failing, ground reality is if you buy in favour of patriotism and build quality you will be looted,humiliated at service center, 2nd thing is as they brought models in market they don't go well in second hand as higher model with higher price will not find buyer, example I bought 16.40 lakh Nexon diesel, top end limited and after 1.5 years not able to sell even for 11.5 as Indian buyers will always think they can buy new car with less features.
