Daniel won because of 3 reasons 1. He’s composed in this fight. He has his family back, he’s not stuck in a gutter, and he’s not buzzed. 2. He used Terry’s method against him. A method designed to take down the strongest opponents, and doing exactly what Chozen said. “ to catch snake, you must think like snake “. 3. Terry had just gotten back from getting his ass handed to him by a drunk Chozen. ( I know Chozen technically “ lost “ but he was distracted, which was the only thing that allowed Terry to get the upper hand. Chozen was shitfaced in that fight and still had Terry on the back pedal the whole time ).

Okay, let's not just gloss over the fact that Daniel was also heavy unbalanced and buzzed in the fight at Stingray's apartment. That's probably the most broken and surrendered we've ever seen him in the series, to the point he literally told Silver "I surrender" and then was forced to fight him. Yes, Silver won that fight, but mostly because Daniel was very much off. Silver initiates both fights, showing he isn't THAT broken like Daniel was by the time of the dojo fight. In the second fight, Daniel gave Silver a Miyagi-level whooping - he never landed a single hit on Daniel. That's not just from Silver being unbalanced or demoralized, but rather Daniel finding his own balance and no longer having the internal conflict he's had for basically the whole 5 seasons.

Daniel also got over his 30 year fear of the man and embodied the lesson mr miyagi taught him about not surrendering to it. And also silver and chozen's fight was short as hell and most of it was just sword play. He had a drive to collect himself stamina wise. He was so enraged here and that helps his style but he was no match for a miyagi do master grandmaster

Let’s not forget, Terry Silver just had a battle to the death with Chozen, and Chozen got the better of him until he got distracted. Terry Silver was not fresh by any means. This was the first time he fought somebody that was on his level since Miyagi. Daniel had not fought anybody that night. So he was fresh. I believe that played much more of a factor than the fact that Daniel was fighting for something more meaningful

Daniel LaRusso won and Terry Silver lost at the end of season 5 simply because Daniel lost and Silver won during the tournament at the end of season 4. COBRA KAI follows a distinct pattern. Johnny won in season 1 and lost in season 2. Kreese won in season 2 and lost in season 4. Silver wins in season 4 but loses in season 5.

Chozen is the only one who did his entire life. When we meet Terry again, he's left that part of himself go completely, it doesn't mean you forget what you learned, you just got to get back to form which he does during season 4. But still, Chozen did beat Terry, he had him, he just got distracted by Johnny and also, Chozen was hammered. So a drunk Chozen essentially did beat Silver, and Silver sucker slashed him(lol) after his distraction. Chozen had to be removed to make Daniel the only one to stand up to him in the end as they intended. And like others said here, Daniel at this point had the backing of his family and friends, his rivalry with Johnny was completely gone at this point and he was fueled by the belief of his family, his students and the sacrifice of Chozen, Johnny and Mike. He had a lot to fight FOR, Silver was just fighting AGAINST, like Chozen said and it's why he lost.

I think Daniel won because yes he was focused the second time. I also believe he was using Miyagido (defense) the second time. They mention in season 4 when Daniel and Johnny were talking about Silver. Johnny was talking about fighting him. Daniel was like “what are you going to do? Strike firster?” That line right there imo is a reason why Johnny and Daniel lost. Johnny only knows Cobra Kai and he knows how to utilize its aggressive power. It focuses on anger and aggression to defeat opponents. Silver has been studying it longer to the point where he can use other people’s aggression to throw them off balance. It gives him the upper hand in fights. You see that in the first fight with Daniel. The second fight he was more focused and he was using the karate style he was proficient at. Silver doesn’t know Miyagido because he lost to it before. Someone can say it’s unrealistic and I’m going to say this: the Karate Kid films aren’t realistic either BUT there’s one constant ideal that’s both in the movies and the show. Miyagi said “the best karate comes from inside!” He also didn’t think much of awards and belts. Daniel made a gift for Miyagi by putting his war medal on a frame. Miyagi pointed to Daniel’s heart and said “this say you’re brave!” Then he mentioned that the medal says you’re lucky. When Daniel asked about karate belts Miyagi made a joke about it because he didn’t believe it meant anything. In the next karate kid Julie mentioned a karate belt saying it means you’re good. Miyagi said “you know you’re good!” The show follows that philosophy whether it’s realistic or not but it’s definitely cool that it’s canon. There’s an idea that if you are fearless and are confident in your abilities you’ll be able to turn achieve better outcomes in fights and other life situations. It’s not too unrealistic though. There is some truth to it.

He wasn't focused in the original fight. He was tired, had been drinking and he let Silver get in his head and foolishly kept trying to attack him instead of letting Silver come to him. In the 2nd fight, he was focused, clear headed, patient and took a more Miyagi like approach to fighting him, not to mention that he had the support of most of the people watching. Chozen softening him up a little bit probably didn't hurt either 😉.

1. Daniel was protecting his children - we saw the same thing with Johnny when the baby scan photo fell out of his pocket and he found renewed strength to fight. Silver was just fighting out of spite and for his own ego . 2. Daniel was more centred at the time. Silver was angry, anxious about the leaked footage, and had just lost the control over his students that made him feel powerful. Daniel was at his best, he knew it was do or die in that moment, and he finally put together everything he had learned from Mr. Miyagi, Chozen and even Silver himself to be able to win. 3. Silver was tired. Chozen pushed him to his limit while he was extremely drunk, and I don't think for one second that Silver would have been able to beat him sober, and he also only beat Chozen because he was distracted by hearing Johnny cry out so he dropped his guard. Imagine being around 60 years old and fighting someone younger than you after you've just had the most difficult fight of your life - it's not going to be easy.

I think Terry Silver was also a bit worn out and damaged by his fight with Chozen earlier that night. He suffered injuries from that fight and is still bloodied. Add on top of that he felt he was losing his students, and add on top of that Daniel used the fighting style that he was taught in Karate Kid 3 against him, ie he knew Silver's moves and was prepared to counter them, and Daniel being in his 'zen state' to protect his family, well it was natural that all these factors led to Daniel finally winning and defeating a weakened Terry Silver. Last but not least, Terry Silver was unprepared for this fight. He's at his best when he catches someone else off balance, he never expected to be attacked in his own home, or the info about him bribing the official to get out in his own dojo. Silver was backed into a corner and forced to take a fight he didn't really choose. He's not comfortable in a situation when he doesn't have the upper hand and Daniel made him pay big time.

Silver is honestly my favorite character of the movies and the series. There’s a lot of potential for the character to come across as a cheesy character, but Thomas has charisma that comes across onscreen.

Silver is awesome! Always been a fan of his. He seems like an actual good fighter too, I remember seeing his sparring in karate kid 3 and thinking ‘oh nice. This guy can actually fight’, I don’t think a redemption arc would be good for him though, he’s an amazing villain and should stay that way

I think a more appropriate title would have been "SPOILERS: Cobra Kai Season 5 Ending Explained" with a more appropriately vague thumbnail. I mean, imagine if we all as soon Season 6 comes out, just watched the last 10 minutes of the final episode and within the first few minutes of release just spammed the channel with the ending. These are entertaining but not necessary and so if we are just in a hurry to spoil everything, then it loses its value. I think it is time to unsubscribe before any of Season 6 is spoiled.

The only counter point I’d say is Chozen isn’t miyagi. He gave in to temptation and got buzzed. Miyagi was the ultimate embodiment from another generation.

How about the fact that he was already beat up after fighting and losing to Chozen. He was able yo go to the dojo after he slashed Chozen with the sword when Chozen looked away. Daniel was somewhat fresher since he had not been in a fight yet.

Daniel was also drunk and depressed when he fought Silver the first time. (Amanda had left him) Also, Silver was already a bit hurt and worn from his fight with Chozen. It was a large combination of things. Amanda was also behind Daniel at the rematch. She specifically said, “we are all behind you Daniel” It was about fighting FOR something vs fighting against something. Which Chozen mentioned was his downfall against Daniel in Karate Kid 2. Fighting is more psychological than physical, especially at high levels.

I see what you're saying, and Chozen would seem like the one who would defeat Silver, but I'm SO glad it was Daniel. He was mercilessly bullied and beaten by Silver all those years ago, and then beaten again this season, but with EVERYTHING that Miyagi, and more recently Chozen had taught Daniel, and, heck, even Silvers very own 'Silver Method' had taught him, Daniel was high time due a win.

To me the idea is that Daniel did learn from Chozen and early on in the season he told him that he would need to use Terry's own style against him thus why we get the flashbacks to the quicksilver method and Daniel was more prepared to fight Terry based on what he knew about him from the past

Terry's tired and winded after his scuffle with Chozen back in his mansion, and the confidence that Daniel returned after getting his family back, exposed the liar that Silver really is, and he got justice towards him by using the quicksilver method against him. There, that's the short answer.
