Absolutely!... Tesla is in the business of optimization - There is obvious energy wastes that have not been taken care of, for decades. When I see a home with a pool heated by a heat pump and the house next to it cooled by another heat pump... it is obvious there is a total waste of energy,,, two systems that are obviously complementary wasting energy the other could use.

Highly likely as more eVehicles erode Tesla's market dominance. Only Ford and GM have charging infrastructure plans (that I know of) and the funding for them to compete in the mass-energy storage business will probably not be as well funded as Tesla's. Also, the oil and gas megacorps have yet to seriously step into the fray, which will be a must if they're to prosper in the post-2030s as modern energy companies.

Britney just stared at me as she was singing on stage and I was standing in an archway above and nearby. I had earned these trips by qualifying reward points at my work. He asked, "What kind of work is it that you do?" I said, "Commercial energy saving promotions but I had been schooled in Automotive Marketing Business Administration and worked in that field for several years as well." He asked me, "If I had millions of dollars to spend what would be the most innovative businesses that could help humanity?" We talked about electric cars, we talked about solar energy and so many other subjects for over an hour. Even commercial space exploration for the consideration of colonization. That way all of humanity's eggs are not in one basket in case of another world war, asteroid strike, major climate change, etc. These we're very expensive and ambitious businesses to become successful at. Therefore we had to talk about ways of keeping a low overhead in advertising, distribution and the manufacturing. He said, "They were all very good ideas and that they should be done!" He said he had already made hundreds of millions off of a couple internet companies he started. "One of them was PayPal," he stated. Not that I had really done a lot of online banking or e-transfers at that time I didn't think much of it, until I noticed online about a year later that I could buy something off the computer with my PayPal card! Unfortunately I had just received a promotion as regional manager with the company I was working with. This made me let Elon know that I had to wait for a few years before I could assist further. I keep on sending out messages, hoping that he will get one and reply back. I will probably have to keep on trying, he gets more messages in a day then I would in five years! It is very inspiring to me to have a conversation with someone and they dedicate the next 20 years to making our conversation reality! We also talked about becoming your own best supplier and starting businesses that help your existing business. A type of slingshot effect that he has incorporated very well. It is so ambitious and amazing that he was willing to put pretty much all of his money where his mouth is and just make it happen with a consistent dedication. The explosive growth of EV vehicles won't look near so amazing when Tesla finally breaks free of the battery constraints they have had to operate under. That time is so close as they are soon to have 4680 batteries in good numbers for their cars and that will free up batteries for their energy projects. Add in their ability to offer virtual power plant systems based on software and AI they have developed and we see an amazing business model. As Tesla will offer not only battery backup solutions they will offer long term management of these systems. It's different than just selling a battery back but a continuing system to manage it that profits everyone involved.

Tesla did a great job installing my solar system. The problem is waiting for PTO from California PG&E, over six months after tesla completed their installation, still waiting and my PG&E billings have been higher since the solar system installed.

I'll believe it when I see it as far as a home heat pump. There have been residential heat pumps installed at homes all over where I live in Texas for 40 years anyway. Every single one I've been around once the temperature approach is about 36° we'll start icing up on the outside unit till it is solid ice on the coils. Yes the salesman will tell you that it goes into reverse process every so often to thaw the coils out but this doesn't work from about 36 degrees Fahrenheit on down. It might kind of start to melt the ice but soon as it kicks back out into heating mode for inside the ice solids up really quick on it because of the moisture in the air. And without air being able to flow across the coils the house starts getting colder and colder in a downward spiral.

Heat pumps are at least two generations better than 30-40 years ago. I have two with R-134a that work just fine down to 28 F. (We haven't been colder than that). I even turned off the resistive backup. I've read up on the new R-34 which is good to -15 F.

100 and 200 watt solar panels have always been around. Having 600 and 800 watt panels available is a game changer since you can only fit so many panels on your roof. Search Amazon for the panels.

Put panels in your yard, not your roof.!.!.!. Panels on your roof increase insurance costs, building permits and inspection costs.!!.!.. If it snows, you have a hard time clearing them.!.!. I put mine in my yard, on 2x6's, myself, at lower cost, easier maintaince, and lower insurance, and I can tilt them for optimal exposure and 20% gain.!.!. Going on 10 years and much income.!.!.!...

@@philmanke7642 is right, I use portable/foldable 100 watt panels with built-in legs and move them every few hours in backyard, also a reason to go outside and tend to my plants/garden. A rotating motor of some sort would give you maximum energy from your panels without having to manage them, or put them on your roof. There a re a few out there, still too expensive though. I like the idea of having automatic self-folding Solar Trees in our yards someday, chasing the sun as it moves.

Hi, This is nice but very americanocentric.... -heat pumps are already used to heat a lot of houses in Sweden (using electricity mostly from hydropower and wind power). -No, you can not use a megapack and solarenergy in winter in cold locations (such as Sweden) -we have hardly now sunshine at all in Nov-jan (commmon levels are around 1% of peak power installed) so you have to do somethin else, which is what we do: Hydropower, Wind power and Nuclear power. And b.t.w. we don't use gas, we don't use fossil fuel to generate electricity, but we use it for transport thus the need for Tesla cars! Otherwise thanks for god post...

I would love to see homes become energy neutral on many levels: - make all the fuel it needs (electricity) - heat and cool itself - purify it’s air and create much of its own water from the air around it - recycle it’s water and compost the waste from its water - basically be self sufficient through a self sustaining package.

Tesla's heat pump system is only innovative for automobiles, and at that only half innovative, since the AC that comes in just about every car is a heat pump too. Regular ACs only work in one direction though. Tesla's innovation was a compact valve system that could better control the flow of refrigerant and effectively allow the system to run in reverse. I have to assume it is just a lack of demand / competition that is keeping heat pump prices significantly above regular AC prices. Tesla competition could help, but there isn't anything special about them vs any other heat pump manufacturer. Over diversification is more likely to be a problem for Tesla eventually... It gets difficult to manage too many things at once.

LFP costs should drop below $50/kWh. The LFP batteries I'm using with my solar panels are warranted for 10,000 cycles. $50/kWh / 10,000 cycles = $0.005/kWh battery cost to store a kWh of electricity. Store some $0.03/kWh wind or solar for half a penny and you've got dispatchable electricity for less than the cost of buying fuel for a CCNG plant.

Rite sizing research needs to be done to determine thermal transfer requirements for the various ground components. With that info meaningful cost estimates could be made. Remember the temp differential between ground and interior of the structure is MUCH less than that of exterior air temp.

But it feels like many though especially younger channels are thrusting promotions into midvideo where more likely viewers might not take to the time to skip past, thus reaching more people, but in so doing abusing the baseline viewership we give them. Whereas if placed at beginning or end, you still reach people and it feels more honest relationship between creator and viewer. That is not even remotely true. Specifically "the average homeowner ...can add". It would take all of them to make a significant difference. All of Europe is harder to gets accurate statistics on but in the USA only about 60% of people even own a home. This includes multi million dollars mansions all the way down to run down old trailer houses and shacks. Based on income statistics of home owners easily less than 1/3 make enough money to even consider installing a simple power wall at a cost of at minimum $11,000. So out of the 20% of the population who are both home owners and could afford a Tesla power wall its fairly safe to say that at least 40% of them will be republicans and vehemently opposed to anything that smells like green energy and will reject the idea out of hand. Leaving us with a best case scenario of only 10% of the total population who own a home, can afford a Tesla power wall, and dont have political views that would cause them to automatically reject the idea. Which is still a long ways from actually agreeing to buy an $11,000 dollar battery.

Borrowed the entire amount and with the current electrical prices the money I save on buying electricity will be enough to pay the entire loan off in 4-5 years. I wonder what percentage of over extended underpaid home owners could qualify for a loan like that. Wait... No I don't, because its still virtually none of them. You clearly don't understand when you are living paycheck to paycheck you can't even afford the bills you have let alone a loan payment that is much more than your current electric bill. There is no way you bought a solar system you are paying off in 5 years that isn't costing you payments 4-5 times higher than your electric bill is without it. I have priced these systems many times over the years. While prices are higher even now, the prices have consistently been equal to approximately 20 years of electric bills for a given usage. Paying it off sooner only increase your monthly payments and doesn't change the price at all. It does put it out of the reach of those who can't afford the extra expense. If you could get a 20 year loan the interest would ruin any savings you hope for. Before you get too excited thinking that once you pay it off its just free money from then on, keep in mine the batteries which represent at least 1/2 the cost of the system will only last for about 10 years. The charge controllers which represent at least 1/4 of the cost will break down between 13-18 years. So by the time your 20 years is up and the system could start paying for itself you have already had to replace 3/4 of the system. This pushes your "break even" time up to around 27 years, which is about 3 years longer than most solar panels last. I LOVE the idea of solar, but right now its a suckers bet. Unless you are living off grid its going to be much more cost effective and lower monthly cost to just use grid power. As SOON as it is not, I will switch to solar. We just are not there yet.

Heat pumps just don't work in really cold weather. They extract heat from the air, once you get below freezing it starts to struggle.

In the very lowest temperature areas a resistive heater is added to the heat pump.

@@mitchelllinley9738 I someone lives in a really cold place (Michigan vs. Mississippi) then it probably makes sense to use a geothermal heat pump. Basically some plastic pipe gets trenched in a few feet under the surface of the ground and the heat of the soil (around 55 F) is used to heat the building. It's possible to install geothermal without tearing up an entire yard. A trench is dug on each end of the yard or parking lot/whatever. Then a machine that plumbers use to install new water/sewer lines without making a big mess drills tiny tunnels for the pipe. Do that and when it's 30 below zero you're running your heat pump in on a "warm, sunny 55 degree day".

I dont think you mentioned the new LARGE uncertainty about sourcing metals for the batteries. Russia has been a major supplier for a few different metals and that source is now cut off. That could really slow down Tesla Energy and Tesla Motors for the next couple years. Kim Java did a video on this.

@@leslieramesh Yes, Tesla has lots of contracts around the world for various metals. The metal supplies most threatened by the Russia/Ukraine conflict are Neon, Palladium and Nickel per Kim Java.

@@wilber8260 Neon is a gas, and is extracted from the atmosphere. You can do that anywhere; all you need is a cryogenic distillation plant. Neon is used in lasers in chip fabs. Since it's not consumed in use, there are probably enough lasers to go around for the time being. Palladium is not particularly used in EVs as far as I know. There are sources of Nickel in a variety of countries. I haven't checked out Kim Java's claims, but they sound poorly researched.

So I was talking to my husband about EV and solar the future and he's older than me which I think is the hardest group to get on board with getting rid of fossil fuels all together(which is a finite source it will run out at some point anyways! ). He said it cost a lot to make the battery packs from mining raw materials to finish product and used insane amount of fossil fuels to power the process. I was hoping u could make video on this and look into it. I love your channel and content. U r visionary but still realistic to real possibilities in the future. Thank you we need to spread the info on these possibilities. Also we talk about using EV,solar and battery storage to switch from fossil fuels but when we plug in car for example to our house using electricity isn't our electrical grid getting energy from fossil fuels or nuclear(which has very harmful byproduct that has to be stored somewhere. Again would your thoughts on these topics

I don't see Tesla making a major dent in home heating. Conventional heat pumps are already pretty efficient. Unless Tesla has invented some new physics, I don't think they can be wildly better than what exists today. So much of the success of a heat pump conversion project depends on the rest of the house, not the heat pump. The house needs a tight, well-insulated envelope, and a ducting system that is designed for heating from the outset. Tesla could disrupt the automobile and energy industries because they have fundamentally superior technology that covers a large fraction of the problem. In HVAC, their technology is not ENOUGH better than what exists today, and what they bring to the table is only a small fraction of the problem. (i.e., insulation, sealing, and ductwork need to be in place and of high efficiency.)

Great video. I'm super excited to see the world is now seriously heading towards a sustainable future. Using LFP cells is a great move - mining the raw materials is much mre eco-friendly then the previous technologies used. It finally seems it's not a green solution with a huge question mark hidden somewhere in the manufacturing part. Also there are other companies that deserve attention not just Tesla. Recently announced geothermal energy project by Quaise would be a great energy solution if successful.

One of the criticisms we have heard re EV’s is the fact that our electric grid is already maxed out. What will happen when millions of EV’s hit the streets and depend on the grid to be recharged. This issue is obviously not lost on Elon Musk. His answer is the Megapacks that extract significant efficiency out of energy already available on the grid.

No. First of all, the grid in general is not maxed out. It can easily grow to meet new demand. Megapacks are a replacement for peaker plants, while most charging is done at night, via baseload.

There are local problems that require transformer upgrades, but since most EVs charge at night, the grid doesn’t won’t be maxed out by EVs except in areas where night-time air conditioning use increases a lot, such as California.

Please update your reading list. This has been studied by national energy labs and found out our current grid systems (not the Texas grid) is adequate if we all switched to EV’s which we can’t do. It will take 10 years plus to get 60% of cars totally electric. By then the grids will be updated.

Power plants still have to run at night yet very few people actually consumer power at night. Storing that energy at night will enable power supply to the grid at a local and national level during the day. It could act as a large energy well to make the system more robust. That buffer could use batteries or hydrogen as a storage means. Exotic systems like flywheel energy storage could also be deployed for specialist tasks.

Electronic air filters have been available since the 80's that filter so well they remove cigarette smoke and all other particles like pollen and dust. Pair that with a charcoal filter and you have a great system to clean your air.

I'm not sure why you'd want vehicle to grid. Wouldn't you be more worried about needing to go someplace in your car if the power was down? Your only means of transportation would not be available. I’d love to see an HVAC product that pull heat off solar panels, it could even reduce the panels to below ambient temperature on the low pressure side of the system. Solar cells function more efficiently when they are colder. This would be ideal for cold climates during peak sun days. It would also be excellent where Industrial heat is needed for drying and other applications. That will probably make the most sense to tackle first. A crypto mining space heater would also be cool.

I have been thinking a lot about WHY Tesla energy business is so negligible compared to the car one.... Unfortunately there are some fundamental issues that must be solved: - Powerwall: it's not even SOLD in France at the moment, why? I would be ready to install it in my house.... - Solar panels: currently the production/installation of Tesla Solar Panels is extremely low, even compared to Solar City predecessor, WHY? - Solar tiles: a lot of marketing, customer signed to install them, but it is basically inexistent ....

The world's events and weather patterns have brought the energy storage problem to the forefront over the last few years and now with Europe needing to manage electrical loads without so much natural gas being available it's only a matter of time before the storage business takes off. And many forget that Tesla is registered in more and more places as an energy producer and distributor. The software to manage electricity and the ability for Tesla to manage the grid in ways that make renewable energy storage replace physical peaker plants is also ready to explode on the scene as they manage the battery storage energy as well as sell the batteries. That can be a more lucrative business than battery storage long term. So after years of limited batteries available for battery storage projects see that this limiting factor is fading as battery production increases. Anyway you look at Tesla will soon start showing massive increases in profits from battery storage and its management.

Uhm those things already exist and no data center will work with heat pumps, it’s definitely not efficient at cooling those super hot systems. Also the main sources of inefficiencies in HVAC is the buildings.

Tesla ramping up Megapack production makes no sense when they could easily team up with "AUREON ENERGY Ltd" and built the newest Fusion Nuclear Reactor of the "SAFIRE REACTOR" with its fantastic ability to produce electricity around the clock at exceedingly lowest prices compared with all other methodologies. It could easily be built super safely in compact form within our communities wherever power is required and therefore it also does not require a complex, vulnerable and expensive electric grid system. It is simply massively world-changing by any measure.

LoL. There is no working, economical fusion reactor presently in existence, and while there might eventually be a fusion reactor that works, I doubt it will ever be economical. Safire doesn't appear to be based on actual science, so I'd really want to see a solid demonstration reactor producing measurable power. I'm not holding my breath.
