Loved the review. I own a 2019 R1250RT, have only about 8,000 miles on it but I absolutely love it! For me, the RT offers the best of comfort, nimble sporty ride & handling, reasonable weight, and technology. Obviously selecting a bike is a very personal decision, we all have our own tastes and preferences! I like the new technology on the 2021 RT but my 2019 suits me just fine and I've barely got her broken in so I won't be trading anytime soon.

The R1200/50RS and the R1200/50RT are the most underrated bikes out there. I rode a 2018 R1200RS in a European Alpine tour for 7 days and the bike was unbelievable. Thanks for the video. This will be my first bike in 7-8 years after a family sacrifice of my old one. I tried the GSA and loved it, as did the Chief Finance Officer (my wife) who has sanctioned the purchase. I wasn’t interested in the old RT, because the tech was behind the GSA, but now I’m swayed by all the shiny, new buttons and tech of the new RT. My main worry is the state of UK roads and when we rode the GSA, it soaked them all up. Fully loaded, there’s very little price difference between them and the RT comes with panniers as standard, the LE with central locking too. I can’t wait to test ride the RT.

Consdered the RT but just bought the 1250GS instead. Is the RT really that much better on motorways than the GS? I do a lot of city commuting so, all in all, I think it was the right choice for me and I don't really like the look of the RT. So far, I'm very impressed with the GS, coming from the Tiger 900 GT Pro. It"s a joy to ride and soooo stable all the time. The buying experience at BMW Paris was underwhelming to say the least for a machine of that price. And just one key!! But loving the bike. Take care and ride safe

I've not ridden the new RT yet, but as an owner of a 2020 K1600GT, I think I'd beg to differ with your 'Ultimate Motorway' title. I don't have the nifty TFT screen, but I do have an additional 350cc and 4 cylinders! A good trade on any day. Here in Salt Lake City Utah with 80 mph speed limits, we regularly ride to over 10,000 ft (3000 meters for the rest of the world) and as the saying goes, there really is no replacement for displacement. My channel deals with my K1600s (Yeah, I have two. Follow the channel to find out how THAT happened) and my 03 M3 6 spd convertible and a host of other likely suspects. BMW are struggling though with the software connectivity when pairing phones, helmets and satnavs on the older screens. I think they're getting it sorted but the phone app is a little flaky unless your bikes firmware is fully up to date. Hopefully the tech on these '21 bikes is all sorted. No doubt this is the distance tourer of choice. I had a 2013 / 90 Jahre edition for 3 years, doing a lot of motorway mileage to visit a relative in hospital 240 mile / 386 km round journeys. I found i was flattening the very expensive tyres quickly. Also, even though it was probably the best tourer, I still found it tiring, I was in my early my sixties, so I decided to get a car for motorway journeys and different type of motorcycles for two up light touring. I agree these are great bikes, but I can’t imagine going up and down motorways / highways is much fun on any bike. Motorways are best for cars. A & B roads best for bikes. I was going to buy one this year but they are not allowed to sell on US because of the front brake problem
@motobob3 жыл бұрын
Interesting - what's the problem with it? Was it a recall?
@RobertSmith-ug4it3 жыл бұрын
@@motobob it was to do with the leaking US hayes callipers, there were drips on some RTs and GSs. BMW replaced seals in some callipers, and now use an updated calliper. In the US, the US Govt put a safety order out and all 1250s were being sold with Brembo callipers. On another forum I am on, some guys in the US have their bikes, but not sure if with Hayes or Brembo callipers

Can you turn the radar off if the cruise is on? We have a car with that feature, but we can't turn the damned thing off if the cruise is on. It does not like rain storms and the has a tendency to disable the cruise completely in some cases. Annoying as Hell.

I believe you can switch it off, yes.

Why do reviewers insist on guessing when they don't know how something works?? That's a fools errand. Just say you don't know and be done, we're all quite capable of making our own guesses.

Are all the UK bikes coming with Michelin PRs? Bike looks much more modern with new dash and fairing

It would be lovely to have a bike like that....for 5% of the time. Maybe if I can have several bikes when I win the lottery. I'd be interested to know if adaptive cruise control can cope with emergency braking situations. I don't like the idea. I hope that the economy gage isn't like my brothers old 5 series. It only ever came out of the red when coasting downhill!

You can see why older riders account for a lot of sales of touring bikes, because it makes total sense if you're retired and have time to put loads of miles in seeing the country. That's the dream for me!

Adaptive cruise control; is this when motorcycling jumped the shark?

I'd definitely recommend trying it out

Love the screen and hope they implement it to the next generation GS. However, now you need a cell phone connection to operate the Navi, so you will be using a lot of data from your data plan and you need to always have a cell connection. Having a separate NAV unit or a built in Gamin/TomTom software (say link the Goldwing) eliminates these issues.
@markellott56203 жыл бұрын
That bothers me a little bit. I would have preferred a native system.
@andrewc81332 жыл бұрын
That’s not quite true. The complete maps are loaded on your phone (usually downloaded at home, in the same way you’d update your dedicated nav unit). Your phone doesn’t need to draw down data while you’re navigating.

No data required or needed from your cellphone.

When describing features, why not use vendor lingo? So if a viewer wants to learn more they have a proper term to search for and get good results. BMW Motorrad storage locking is called "Central Locking". Damn handy btw!

So It is great on the highway….will it hold up as a Grand Tourer with multiple 10 hour days?
@marksmith35763 жыл бұрын
Load the paniers and the missus and you can ride for weeks any weather . Feels light and nimble definitely a grand tourer. Our first choice when hiring.
