Why the a7siii is BETTER than the Fx3 | a7siii + K3m

The Sony a7siii and Fx3 are both amazing cameras that I've been fortunate enough to work with. In the video I share my thoughts about some of the small differences between the two cameras and why I think the a7siii is better than the Fx3.

This was a great video. I grabbed the Fx3 only because I thought it was sexier looking. I primarily use my Fujifilm x100v for photos or my Sony a6600s when I want to change lenses when traveling. I am a little nervous about future shots and the sun, but I will roll the dice for now.

Great points. I use both and my FX3 is almost dedicated for static use while i can hybrid quickly with the a7siii. Awesome flexibility when owning both.

The FX3 should have been cheaper in my opinion, and the xlr handle should have been an option. Personally, I rather have the EVF than the XLR adapter. You can always add it to the A7S3, but you can’t add an evf to the FX3.

What scared me with the FX3 was the fan vents on the back. I know for me any opening on anything is going to get dirt in it sooner or later and those vents just scream issues to me but I am just paranoid.

Nice rig! love your videos!! 🎉 I use the Sony K3m on a A1. but the shoe mount often break. Any idea on how to make it more sturdy on a cage?

Thank you!! I don’t have any cage suggestions for the K3M but I did recently find a cage from small rig that allows you to attach the XLR top handle from the fx3/30 to other Sony mirrorless cameras. That one is a lot more sturdy! I’ve got a video on my channel about it. Hopefully that helps!

Thanks for the video! I decided to stay with the A7Siii only because of EVF. I love the EVF, and cannot refuse it. It’s like having a big high quality monitor inside your camera. It was interesting to hear about the layout of the buttons and about top handle. Now I’m even happier about keeping the A7SIII ;-) But for the sake of justice I have to say that FX3 looks sexy. With this grey metal look, with the red lights etc. And it looks not as photo oriented and more unusual than A7Siii.

@@RileyEndicott The only thing that worries me is that I have a feeling that it might be the last A7S series camera. I started to think about it after the FX3 release, and it became more obvious after the serious FX3 firmware, and insignificant A7Siii firmware. Looks like S line is not interesting for Sony anymore. I hope I’m wrong. Or I hope they will add a EVF in the next FX3 generation. Then I will be totally fine :-)

@@MagnetiqLabs Well we had to wait 5 years between the mark 2 and mark 3. So I think there's plenty of time to wait and see what Sony comes out with :) I also hope they continue the line up.

Great review. For two person trade show indoor interviews from 2-3 meters (5-10 feet away) from the camera, do you feel this k3m XLR mic will be effective in picking up two voices with my Sony Zv-e10 (multi show digital compatible interface) from that distance? I travel alot pre pandemic so portability is key. All the other reviews are hand held With ecm which is too close for my use case. And they only involve one person.

I would look into a pair of lav mics. 5-10 feet away in a trade show environment seems like it wouldn’t be ideal. Maybe something like the rode wireless go 2 would work. I’ve never tried it but it seems like a good compact solution.

I agree with all these points….I thought about selling my a7siii and getting FX3 because of the included K3M but for me it’s actually cheaper to keep a7siii and get K3M because my EDU discount with Sony.

No one talks about the image differences! I have shot a ton with both. The A7SIII has a slightly sharper look that is perfect for fashion work. The FX3 has a slightly softer image. Sort of like the S1H vs S1 image difference. I bet they are using an optical low pass filter, although I can't confirm anywhere. Anyways, I still prefer the A7SIII for sharp fashion brand videography.

I’ve used my Siii in Houston in direct sunlight all day, shooting at 60fps and never had an overheating issue.
