Considering I've modded and sold backlit NeoGeo Pocket Color, Gameboy Advance, Gamegear systems for more than $200 each, I think $200 isn't really bad if you really want it. Imagine being a person who's spent near $700 to get a backlit GBA, NeoGeo Pocket Color and modded Gamegear when you could have this and a couple add-ons around $300.

@@jublacabra Because the Pocket is FPGA-based which is basically hardware-based emulation as opposed to the typical software emu used by the RG351. Being an FPGA makes cycle-accurate performance much more reasonable to achieve especially in a small form factor like the Pocket. Also it natively supports actual cartridges, link cables, and the screen is much higher res which means better integer scaling and the ability to use shaders to replicate the look of each system's screen. It definitely appeals to a certain niche at least. That said for the average person that doesn't give a f about any of that stuff an RG351 is probably good enough.

@@VexAcer Ahh thank you for explaining. So this is like emulating the gameboy, gameboy color, and gameboy advance hardware - all in one - which would lead to pixel perfect emulation. That is rather cool. Having tinkered for months with the 351V, I don't need this beauty but can't wait to see videos of it when it releases.

@@jublacabra Yeah Analogue's other consoles are super accurate too. Stuff like the Mega SG (their version of the Sega Genesis) is directly comparable to actual hardware and cycle-accurate emulators like Blast Em (which usually require a decent modern CPU to run full speed). There's also a separate device called the MiSTer which also uses FPGA tech. It supports multiple systems as long as the core has been developed for it. But it's a lot more tinkerer-based than Analogue's which is mainly pick up and play.

it's still legal to play these games on the tv; emulation isn't inherently illegal, it's the piracy part thats illegal. regardless, there's ways to get the roms from the legally bought gameboy cartridges and use them through emulation.

I really wanted an Analogue Pocket until the pre-order fiasco pissed so many people off. If they could do it over, I bet they’d have a reservation system like the Steam Deck did instead… once the Odin came out, I jumped on that bandwagon and grabbed an Odin Pro. I mostly just want a handheld that will play Stadia and retro games up to GameCube more or less flawlessly. Now I’m curious if the Odin or Pocket will ship first!

So many red flags with this analogue pocket, it's not even funny. I feel sorry for the people who have hundreds of dollars tied up with this pre-order for years. Can you imagine if sony, nintendo or microsoft did that? - there would have been an outrage! Why are you giving this company a free loan for years, for a product that you haven't even seen (just a CGI render)? When we put the component shortage aside, I think they have an issue with software, they can't seem to make it work properly. Use your thinking hats people - they haven't shown the console in person and haven't shown the software in action with real games and it was supposed to be released by now.

Mod yourself a switch and play all of these games on the go, and on the big screen... TODAY, and no adapters required.... and a nice 6 inch screen with a proper controller that has all the buttons needed to play great games
