I think I speak for everyone that we can appreciate and admire you putting yourself out there and making your own stance about the anime, but when most the points you made are just factually wrong get ready to be blasted in the comments!

Is that what you got from these comments? That you're the only person to criticize the ending? It's not bold or controversial. The reason you're getting shitted on in the comments is because the basis for your comments show a lack of experience with and understanding of fiction as a whole.

yeah sorry dude, you missed the mark with your video here. fiction isn’t good simply on the premise that you like the characters and that they succeed at their goals. what makes AoT so compelling is that it constantly pulls the rug out from under its characters. I’m struggling to see how you even enjoyed the first three seasons, considering that they’re basically a torture chamber for the main cast. Eren’s mom gets eaten alive on episode 1. if eren didn’t have the attack titan, he would’ve died on episode 5. then you find out that paradise’ suffering is intentional when you realize that the colossal/armoured titans must also be human. then eren and the scouts kill hundreds of civilians in their fight with Annie, another comrade. this is all just in the first season. it gets even more nihilistic and negative from there- basically the entire moral of the story is that suffering is constant, and inevitable. the more that our cast finds out about the world, the worse it gets. the more complicated their naive solutions become. the more dark and from their outlooks get. when did this show imply to you that it was supposed to have a happy ending? “you can’t tell me a single reason to watch AoT just to be sad” is really just an obtuse take on fiction and storytelling as a whole, sorry to say. i can respect if you simply didn’t enjoy it, but in my opinion this is a classic case of “failure to engage with the text”. calling something “mid” because it isn’t a lighthearted after-school sitcom is extremely weak criticism.

The whole reason Eren started the rumbling was to intentionally get his friends to ally with Marley to stop him and kill him so that they as well as all the other Eldians on Paradis could be seen as heros and his friends would live long lives.. he didn't "do it for no reason" It's like you didn't pay attention at all when watching. Also, a happy ending just would not make sense at all narratively for Attack on Titan. The whole story is to represent how human nature is in real life about how conflict will always arise no matter what. That was beautifully represented in the post credit scene, not every show is going to have a happy ending and it's honestly ignorant for you to assume such if you want a happy ending then go watch Frozen or something, bro.

Well Eren did say he didn't know why he did it. He said it himself. I can see your point of view, but a normal fan who may not go into depth may see Eren saying he doesn't know why he did it and assume that's the reason.

When we say AOT is realistic, we are obviously not talking about the other-wordly "powers that be" in the AOT verse, but about the realistic portrayal of human nature through the characters. The characters literally feel like real people in how they react and deal with/handle to certain situations. Like it makes logical sense why they act the way they do. Not only that, but they are complex, often times having inner conflicts with themselves just like how normal realistic people do. Plus the underlying themes(for example, imperialism, classism, what it really means to be free, idealism vs reality, systemic racism, indoctrination and propaganda, etc) that the show tackles often mirror the truths of our real world. It's so layered that it takes multiple re-watches to get it. It has always been realistic from episode 1. The only character whose death I thought was unnecessary was Miche....even Isayama regretted killing him off. If you were watching AOT expecting a simple shounen story with flashy fights, then it's definitely not for you buddy. The problem is not with the show or the writer but with your preferences.

Let's converse about an individual who had a major role in the plot but was full of contradictions in the final episode Just think about it: Isayama managed to create a silent character, with ZERO dialogue and ZERO monologue but still explore her backstory, struggles, suffering, mystery around her motivation, set such amazing parallels between her, the mc, historia, freckled Ymir, zeke and frieda only through her emotions and actions, symbolism and visuals, he connected it with aot's themes and its lore. He managed to write THIS... so she, ymir fritz, got to be destroyed by 3 gd lines ("only Ymir knows...", "ymir loved the king fritz" and "she was waiting for mikasa") Just... why? WTH? FOR WHAT? Where do I begin? Well, her love for the king... Firstly, no way it's Stockholm syndrome cuz this shit works differently. So, no. Secondly, WHEN did she start to develop feelings for him? Before freeing the pigs? After their marriage? After getting pregnant? When? Thirdly, WHY does she have affection for her husband? He ruined her life in every way, he abused her physically and mentally, he did the same thing to their children but she... Uh, ok, let's see (as if we can). If she loves him, why does she disobey him by freeing the pigs and not regenerating? Why doesn't she smile or isn't happy when he's around? Why does she want him dead instead of her and regrets not letting fritz die? If she regretted this whole time, doesn't it mean she already put herself and her daughters above her husband so the titan curse could end sooner? Now, ymir and mikasa... Their connection has NO buildup. It's never hinted at something common between these two throughout the entire show. The Ackerman's headaches had no allusion to the goddess. So why mikasa? What about this woman made fritz choose her? The fact she was an Ackerman? Or the person who was able to kill the love of her life? Um, couldn't ymir find someone else, like, sooner, 282 years ago for example, among millions of people, within 2000 years? Or it's because mika killed the founder when it separated from the hallucigenia? How does mikasa know her headaches are caused by ymir messing with her head if eren didn't tell her about that? Who knows, who cares... Why even show so many well-written parallels between ymir fritz, eren, historia and freckled ymir if they have no payoff? Why does Ymir find herself in mikasa but not historia whom she has much more in common with? Historia is a better version of her, so why not wait for reiss? For what reason does she pick a girl with no dignity, self-respect and ability to move on or grow up? How are her relationship with fritz and eremika bond even similar? Eren didn't treat mikasa the way fritz treated his wife. Eren saved and freed mikasa, that tyrant enslaved and turned his woman's life into a nightmare. The mc and the king are complete OPPOSITES just like mika and ymir. What would she do if mikasa suddenly changed her mind and didn't kill eren? Wait for 2000 years for someone again? How can mikasa help her move on from the king if ackerman didn't move on from eren herself? Next, if Ymir was the one to make titans in paths, who made her titan? Was the hallucigenia a separate organism or was it connected to fritz after giving her titan powers? If it wasn't connected to her, then why did it disappear instead of trying to find a new holder? Why was it trying to find one at first but vanished after Eren's death? So the founder's death affects it? Then the hallucigenia should have died when Ymir died. But they're not connected, are they? Or the opposite? Ugh... Why did the founder split into 9 titans? Why not 6 or 27 or 3 if she had 3 daughters? If maria, rosa and shina were able to get their mom's power at the same time, does that mean both erwin and armin could eat berthold and become shifters together? And if these 3 ate the founder, shouldn't every descendant of the royal family possess it? Whose child inherited the founder? Rosa's? Maria's? Shina's? Or all simultaneously but after that it split into 9 titans? How did fritz know about the way of passing titan powers to new holders? Was Ymir dead when he fed her to their daughters? If she wasn't, then her power should have been given to a newborn eldian. If she was, then she allowed the king chip her into pieces and saw her daughters eat her? Is that even possible to stay alive after getting cut into so many pieces? If she can rewrite her people's dna, that means she can lengthen their lifetime or make them invulnerable or immortal? Can she provide them with armor appearing out of their bodies or weapons out of the air? Or just stop them from turning into titans? About paths... I refuse to talk about how they work. I would take one more paragraph Additionally, whose side is Ymir throughout the story on? On fritz's, who planned to build Eldian empire? Or on Zeke's and Karl's who wished to end this empire's existence and wanted her descendants to die? Or on Eren's who tried to save some of them? Is she with mikasa who stopped eren from doing it? Or is she with the alliance who did everything in their power to save the rest of humanity on the continent? Or is she on the royal family's side? WHOM does she obey? Or is it just going with the flow of events? If that's the case, then how can she wait for mikasa? But if it's still for witnessing mikasa murdering eren, then why does she listen to zeke when eren enters paths? By this logic, she should join the mc immediately to see him get killed as soon as possible. Why does she join eren at first and starts the rumbling with yeager but then helps the alliance to defeat him? Why would she do that to someone who made her moved to tears for the first time after 2000 years of suffering, who healed her by his words of kindness, who told her she's just a person, not a slave or a god, that she get to decide and choose? Why are we told in the final mikasa saved her if eren already did that? Did she need help two times? If the mc wasn't the one to free her, how could she disobey zeke? Is eren her liberator or pawn? If a liberator, why didn't she tell him what she wanted or write shit on sand, anything? If a pawn, why make a show "at your service, mr zeke" and weep after Eren's speech? Did eren and she even need zeke's royal blood after Ymir joined the mc? Also, what exactly made titans disappear? Eren's death, his refusal to live, mikasa's choice, the fact the hallucigenia separated from the mc, fritz seeing the kiss? What? Ymir's desire to stop? So you mean to tell me she wanted them to exist? She could refuse making them anytime? Are you kidding me? Why did she smile at the end of ch 138? Because eren got killed or because the goddess saw the kiss? What were those scenes with her watching everyone during the rumbling all about? To think that for more than 100000+- years (if we take into account time in paths moves slower) she created MILLIONS of titans when shifters transformed and when eldians turned into them (dozens times a day), healed her descendants (once again, dozens times a day), changed or erased their memories, rewrote their dna, made shit from crystals, walked millions of kilometers to build titans, carried many-many pails with water and sand, climbed high to make enormous arms, heads, necks etc... for TWO THOUSAND YEARS she made her children and their children suffer, made the world endure, helped the mc start GENOCIDE, watched millions of people die and kill each other, witnessed her people eat one another and so on just because she COULDN'T MOVE ON FROM HER ABUSER! Do you realize how absurd and unrealistic it sounds? What else should I say... Either she is the stupidest human being or the most despicable person ever. Either her plotline is retconned at the last moment or the author just didn't think it out properly (which is so unlikely). Or after all, maybe, just maybe, she was the true villain of the story all along, not a victim as we thought. We were just ignorant to see it or didn't want to notice. Tmm, Ymir's character gained the worst conclusion in aot, even worse than eren because we didn't even get to know about her motivation, it remained a mystery because "only she knows...". Her arc was so unresolved and so underdeveloped. What was isayama even thinking?

"Attack on Titan is not gonna be some year 9 English assessment that we spend a whole semester learning about" I beg to differ! If anything deserves dissection it is a masterpiece such as AOT where the writer admits they had clear intentions of this ending from the get go. A lot different than the literature we are forced to break down today that never had a thought about academics caring in the first place.

WHAT IF ENDING: I think I cool way to end it. Would of been to have eren have a tear dropping as he got his head cut off. We then cut to his pov as his head falls watching the world spin as he slowly closes his eyes and it fades to black for him to all of a sudden wake up under the tree in that first episode crying still from his pov as mikasa stands over him asking why hes crying, closing the time loop. ( id still would want to see what happen after that to everyone else but idk where it would fit in)

I broadly disagree with your opinion on snk's ending but I totally see where you're coming from Main reason being that snk does have a happy ending, just not in the movie the manga has a few pages after the "the end" at the tree where you see centuries later in a more modern time period three kids who resemble Eren, Mikasa, and Armin discussing a movie they'd just watched. Armin was much like you, saying he didn't like how open-ended the ending was, whilst Mikasa was misty-eyed and shared my sentiment more, saying that the foreshadowing was worth it and that she appreciated the characters getting a "proper send-off" and they both turn to Eren and ask if he agrees, to which he responds with a simple "I just liked going to the movies with you guys" Idk if he's implying that reincarnation is canon or not, but I find it to be a somewhat happy-ish ending but I like sad endings in stories anyways, so I'm probably biased ps great video

""War is inevitable" was always the main aot theme" is such a dumb take If the story was about the never ending cycle: 1) it should have been much shorter. 30 chapters would be pretty enough 2) it shouldn't have suggested 2 solutions to the 2000-year war (Kruger's advice and 100-% genocide) 3) the conflict should have been not between the world and the island but between every human being or every nation 4) Eren's main goal should have been achieving permanent peace (which is not the case) And 5) more people die from genocide than from internal political conflicts. Usually it's only soldiers and politicians, not civilians, so being genocided is much worse than witnessing a civil war 6) this "message" would work better if eren completed the rumbling but paradisians didn't learn anything from it and started waring in future 7) Eren never cared about civil wars. Name at least 1 chapter where he says or shows he's against destroying the whole world just because paradisisans might fight each other in future. You can't 8) a civil war on the island is already about to happen between historia and the yeagerists while the world isn't even preparing to retaliate (it's shown in sp 2) 9) all eren wanted was to save his people from the outside world even if they (obviously) were going to fight each other soon (ch 131) 10) 500+ years passed before paradis got attacked by the outside world so there definitely were more than 2 internal conflicts which makes his plan even more stupid Meanwhile, the main themes (sins of the father, sacrifice something important to achieve/change something, being born into this world, surpassing the father, ending the cycle of hatred, keep moving forward, keeping children out of the forest) are uncompleted at all. They got depreciated

I clicked on the video because the title led me to believe you might have some interesting takes, but you realy dont. *The problem that people have is not you saying that its mid. Its your arguments that range from "not very good" to "realy bad"* Just the first argument that you use media as escapism, yeah well no sh*t mate. But that doesn´t mean that the media can´t also tackle deep themes. Especialy when you took "One Piece" as your counter example, when "One Piece" is sooo deep in critique of the society. There are themes of political corruption, slavery, freedom, racism etc in One Piece. How could you miss all of that and just see "funny bone man fighting" I mean your whole argument breaks down to "sad ending bad" which is like... what? I mean you missed ALL the deeper themes in AOT in favour of just being mad at it not having a happy, conclusive ending. And that you realy watched up untill the very last bit and thought there would be a happy ending just speaks volumes. Art is supposed to make you feel something, make you think about things. Artists pour the heart and souls into their works, their whole perspective on life and the world, and the human condition. Just to make it clear, I am not hating on you. You made a Video essay and it seems to do well in regards of clicks. And I am wishing you the best of luck in your future, but such a shallow media analysis on something so positivly drenched in deep themes as AOT will always piss people off. Go out gain some perspective come back to this piece in a few years.

Leaving it open ended was annoying In the sense that even the deepest diving KZbin essayists disagree on the ending and it's implications, and Mikasa potentially feeling sad until her death and not being with Eren is so tragic to me, not to mention the thought of Jean potentially marrying her is infuriating lmao.
