Now and Then has officially been released and so I thought I would talk about how it happened. AI technology has been causing quite the stir lately and this is no exception. Everyone has been wondering what it would mean to have the beatles use AI to finish a song. Well now we know and its quite awesome!
Heres a link to their music video and a behind the scenes!

Great video Josh. The song is amazing. Lot of people are worried about the IAs. But I think it's good for things like this. I hope other band can use the IAs for old forgotten songs

I do think this kind of tech will be cool to SAVE old songs like in this case. Audio restoration is pretty fascinating and honestly it’s almost like magic. The RX program I talk about lets you see everything in an audio waveform like an X ray and you can alter it and clean it up. Wild times!

I have never heard a more clear and simple way of explaining AI. Great video... subscribed! As far as the AI is concerned... the AI was only used to separate the piano from Lennon's vocals. Everything else was done by humans. Not scary at all. I knew that going in. I actually would have preferred that they would have gone back to the 1995 session and completed that. I love the arrangement of that version of Now And Then. But how lucky are we to get another Beatles song in 2023! I am a huge fan of The Beatles, and I am grateful that this is bringing a whole new awareness to the incredible band to a whole new generation of humans. Like everything else, AI will have it's bad side, but there is so much good this technology can do. I will be trying to concentrate on that!

Thank you so much for your kind words! 🙏❤️ I appreciate your support! Yeah I don’t think the news told people much about what they were doing with the AI. And then months just passed and the song came out haha. But it is super neat how the MAL tech works. Imagine all the recordings we will be able to save that we thought weren’t salvageable! This could extend beyond the Beatles too! And yeah I’m curious what the 1995 version would have been. This truly helped some people rediscover the band. I remember being a kid finding Sgt. Peppers album and just got encapsulated by it. Can’t wait to see where the Beatles and AI go!

AI now allows us to release audio, such as concerts, and film, such as rare films which couldn't before because they quality was low or there was too much damage which couldn't be repaired/restored. But, now you can isolate EVERYTHING in the original recording and clean it up to a level which, as with John's voice, sounds like it was recorded last week? Nirvana has used this on one of their early video performances to enable you to listen to one part of the band? In the same way you can watch a film but have ONLY the commentary track? AI offers ENDLESS possibilities. Fantastic video! David

Thanks for watching! And for your comment! ❤️ I am excited for the restoration side of this. And all the other stuff too. It’s only the beginning of this and technology grows exponentially. We very well might seen breakthrough after breakthrough in coming years. New music, new tech, and maybe a new way of living! Exciting times :) I gotta check out the nirvana thing you mentioned. Can you point me in the direction of that?

Aloha there@@ProducerJosh, thank you for such a spirited reply. Well, imagine if Zappa or Jimi Hendrix were alive now? I do agree with Harrison and Lennon's respective loved ones, when they say, both would've embraced AI. As for Nirvana? After A LOT of searching I found the video: Krist Novoselic Explains AI use IN UTERO kzbin.info/www/bejne/eorZqHeHbryjabs AI means you can now release audio/footage which has never been seen/heard and improving it in such a way that the listener/viewer can truly appreciate every element of it. I can see The Beach Boys "Smile" and other incomplete works, visual or audio, being completed and released. It truly offers us all a chance to experience audio and film, of any age, in a new multi layered way. But, you're so right about breakthroughs. It's a kind of magic. David

Paul himself explained what "AI" meant for the sound isolation technique used for 'Now and Then': "Keep the voice; lose the Guitar" (or, in this case, 'lose the Piano'). It's only when people speak in GENERALITIES that topics like AI become alarming, and particularly since there now exist Beatles voice algorithms available for rendering other people's Vocals in The Beatles' Vocal timbres and singing styles. Even more than for its use in artistic applications, I think we should all be concerned about AI's criminal potential for identity fraud and news fabrication/propaganda purposes.

Haha nice Paul reference, I just saw his letter to Phil the other day again. I think in time people will be more educated about what AI means, and frankly how it’s been in our lives for years now. AI is the tree that many types of it will fall under, I.e. machine learning being one branch. But people need to be eased into it, and it’s funny this is one way people will be introduced to it. The Beatles voice algo thing is scary and cool to me. All of that stuff is. It makes you wonder the future of artists and contracts because of it. The fraud and criminal side will be put to the test next year! Hopefully we can be smart and find a way to detect it for the masses. I’d much rather us play with audio restoration than that but alas that’s the world for ya. Thanks for commenting and watching! ❤️✌️

It was that one snippet of work that was unresolved. McCartney said it bugged him they did not finish it with Free as a bird and real love.......and they couldn't isolate Lennon's voice. I imagine the surviving two see this as a real bookend.

The group The Beatles split up in 1970 and died with the tragic death of John in 1980. This is not a Beatles record. It couldn't be. For McCartney to call it that is a travesty. There was no group interaction, no individual veto (!) and it's a mishmash of loose bits played at many different times on different projects. I hope this really is the final one of these Frankenstein tracks and to Paul I'd like to say: give it a rest now, mate. You've taken this as far as you could and further than you should have. And by the way: John would have vetoed this record and George actually did in 1995, as McCartney admits with a smile. He still created this 'Beatles track' anyway, in spite of that veto, so Paul himself proves it: The Beatles are well and truly....quite dead.

Didn’t you see the footage of George in the studio in the 90s? He was very much involved. And if you go to the Beatles website about the song and history you can see his parts were still included in this. There is a quote saying he thought it was rubbish but he meant the cassette recording. He didn’t like the quality of the audio they were getting back then. But tbh, posthumous records are always kind of strange. Because we truly don’t know. But we do have yoko who John loved dearly, and George’s family, who probably understood how they really felt. For all we know they wish they could’ve stayed together, maybe not. George actually pushed in the 90s to start working on the cassette tape if you didn’t know. He was for it back then. Watching the Beatles documentary, I can see that Paul really is doing his thing a lot. The Beatles have always used technology as an instrument. Don’t forget Paul “died” long ago too…if you believe that theory haha. If anything though, this continues their legacy. Imagine how many people will be Beatles fans after this, and continue to be fans. Who are we to rob that from them if the last members want to continue. Time will tell if they do another, as I’ve heard rumors they can use this tech to save other songs… thanks for you comment! ❤️✌️ I’m all for discussions!

I understand peoples frustration with it. We need to inform people to better understand what it ACTUALLY is though. Machine learning is one branch of what AI is. Think of AI as the umbrella, and machine learning is one of its categories. Deep learning is also another branch. We are at the beginning of this new technology much like when the internet came out. People were scared of computers back then too. In recording people were ANTI pro tools and computers when they first came out. We used tape machines and had done so for decades. Thanks for watching ✌️😁

@@ProducerJoshOk, you are on an AI trip, I’m just saying for THIS song, don’t use that word. And that for THIS song, call it what it is, and people will be less confused. All that other stuff you said is not untrue, but it’s ether essentially what I said in more words, or unrelated to the point I was after.
