Amen to having the Holy Spirit fill us..to be the House of God shining bright in this ever darkening world. I think an important prayer is for the peace of Jerusalem as the Bibie commends us to do..yes pray for our Govts too. I like to pray that they stand with Israel yet we know the Bible says : all nations will turn their back on her. But..when we pray peace for Jerusalem..the place that knows no peace & never has..we are praying for when Christ Jesus the Lord who is peace will reign there when He returns after the tribulation period. I believe we are praying 'come Lord' & take your place. That will be the only time Israel will know peace. So we are really praying for His rule & reign in Jerusalem in that day..the beginning of the millennial time on earth..(see end of Revelation). How we pray for our Govts..I'm not sure but to 'turn & repent' I believe is too late as all that's happening now is hastening the last minute events on God's clock. It has to happen & we don't want to delay His plans..plus we know that all nations will turn their back on Israel as the word says. 'Look up your Redemption draws nigh'-He's going to be appearing in the clouds soon for His church..His Bride! 1 Thessalonians 4;14-18. And once the Restrainer is taken away..the Holy Spirit filled church..'the fullness of lawlessness will abound, then the son of perdition will arise' with 'peace peace & peace-& probably say the aliens have taken them 'for your safety'. Then its time again for God's dealing with the Jews..(who He has always loved but set aside for their idolatry & continual disobedience but allowed for the Gentiles to come in..the church to come forth in His name!. A house for Him to reside!). This the beginning of the tribulation period. They will 1st be deceived (as will the whole world) believing this son coming forward who is the anti-Christ..(the Beast of Revelation..the 'son' of Satan the dragon 'empowering him'-Rev 13:4)..is their Messiah as he comes forth with lying signs & wonders(as Jesus did at His baptism) & will sign a 7 year peace treaty with him! It will be broken half way through when Beast sets himself up as God in the temple that has meanwhile been built(they have everything ready for its build now). Now for God's wrath! But do look up 'The Popes fraternity '..this is the one world religion statement. Already there is a big group of many different religious faiths entwined..Sadly even some who professed to be Christian. This is the False prophet who will soothe the masses to accept a/Christ & where the lying signs & wonders arise from..just like Pharoah conjured up. HERE WE HAVE satan finally set up 'AS GOD' which is what he's wanted all throughout from Genesis!! BUT his so called reign will not last long & his end will be fierce! Hallelujah..our God Jesus Christ reigns! Blessings..I don't mean to disregard your encouragements of prayer(& may many in our Govts turn to Jesus to know Him as Saviour and Lord)..but I feel that place for them to repent has far passed..our nations won't turn back to God but for individuals yes..many are repenting & coming into His House/Body here..like it says: 'until the fullness of the Gentiles come in'. When God sees the last come then 'the dead in Christ shall rise first then those who are alive & looking for His appearing shall after'..caught up to the Lord forever..and to have a wedding feast!! Wow..hard to comprehend but Enoch went & so did Elijah. I say: come Lord Jesus. Ps-can I encourage you to look up a book called: 'The Ishbane Conspiracy' by Randy Alcorn..on the site 'eternal perspective ministries'..under the description down on the left under 'Related Links' click on 'Readers responses'. This book is opening young ones eyes to the truth. It might be good to read first then give a couple to the young in our families. I read one of his books in my early Christian walk & it was a great encouragement.

I found the answer to my own question in the John MacArthur study Bible. A key factor in the “ brainwashing “ process of the Babylonian training was a name switch. This was to link the inductees to local gods rather than support their former religious loyalty. Daniel means” God is my judge” but became Belteshazzar, or Bel Protect the King. Hananiah, “the Lord is Gracious “ was changed to Shadrach “Command of Aku “another Babylonian god. Mishael meaning “who is like the Lord ?” Was given the name Meshach, “who is what Aku is ?” Finally Azariah “the Lord of my Helper,” became Abed-nego, “ Servant of Nego”, also called Nebo, a god of vegetation.

Thanks Martyn. Daniel’s prophecies are especially relevant to our times and the time, times and half a time just around the corner. It’s good to be reminded of them and their relevance. Just a caution: I think there was a reference to Daniel 10. In my LSB version it mentions Gabriel was delayed by a prince and goes on to refer to Michael as a prince. The Hebrew for both references is the same and I couldn’t see a reference where that Hebrew word was ever used as demon.

Eloi! Eloi! Lama Sabachthani? My God! My God! Why have you abandoned me? Why did Jesus cry out with this question? Jesus hung on His cross for six hours. It is my understanding that for the first three hours He suffered the normal torture that crucifixion is intended to inflict. However, the final three hours were unspeakably different. The sun was blotted out, the sky went dark and the real suffering began as the full fury of Gods’ wrath and punishment for the collective sins of the world was poured out upon Him. This punishment was meted out full measure, not only 'in' the presence of the Father (as symbolized by the darkness ie: Gods’ presence in Judgement & punishment), but 'by' the Father Himself. Yet not one complaint was heard from our Lord during the horror of this ordeal. He willingly became our sacrificial Lamb and bore the burden of our sin in Himself. However, the full and final consequence of sin is total, absolute, and eternal, separation from God. Therefore, in order for Jesus to redeem us fully, He had to endure that final and worst imaginable insult, the complete separation from His Father, which he had not, in all of eternity, ever before experienced. This, seemingly unexpected agony, coming at the end of a long day of ever intensifying torture, was by far the most shocking experience of our Lords’ ordeal in completing His selfless act of sacrificial love and obedience to His Father in securing the redemption of His most special and most loved creation, mankind. So, when Jesus cried out, “My God! My God! Why have you abandoned me?”, (directing those present to Psalm 22) He was, at that darkest, most despairing, most shocking and unbearable moment, suffering the ultimate consequence of sin (my sin / your sin) experienced in the total abandonment of, and separation from, Abba Father. This single experience was far more agonizing than the preceding three hours of darkness and judgement, added to the three hours of regular crucifixion experienced previous to that, combined with the prior torture at the hands of the Romans and the initial betrayal and humiliation at the hands of His own people who had violently and cruelly rejected Him, falsely accused Him, had Him illegally tried, illegally tortured and then illegally murdered. Jesus cried out, not in physical agony, but in the deepest agony that soul and spirit could possibly experience … the agony and desolation of total and complete separation from God. And in the same moment, His suffering being at last complete, and our ransom having been fully paid, the judgement ceased. The darkness of Gods’ total absence (in judgement & punishment), preceded by the darkness that had accompanied His presence (in judgement) was then immediately lifted, and the light of His presence in ‘restored fellowship’ returned. His Messiah, his beloved firstborn son from the dead, the Christ Jesus from Nazareth, is even the proof of the Justice and Almightiness of the heavenly Father. Before Judgement Day, the final separation of the souls and the spirits, God shows his mercy and loveliness by spreading even now invitations to the heavenly Wedding Feast of the Lamb, to prepare for the new World in the Spirit of the Christ. We don’t use Belteshasazzar which is Daniel’s Babylonian name, so why do we use the Babylonian names of Hananiah, Mishael, & Azariah ? Just a small question, but maybe they would rather be remembered as their God given names. Though I know it’s easier to remember the Babylonian names. Just a thought.

Love this message Martin, very encouraging and eye opening indeed! However, I would like to quickly challenge the notion that you made at the 30 minute mark of this sermon that 'I don't know what the horns mean and I don't think we can know'. I know that you said at the start you didn't want to get bogged down in eschatology for the sake of time and encouragement for the brethren, but I'd argue that in Daniel chapter 7, the angel gives Daniel the vision, AND the interpretation. Daniel 7:19-27 tells us very plainly what the horns are, and what they represent. I would encourage everyone to read that passage, because it tells us that while the little horn triumphs over God's holy people for 3.5 years, then King Jesus will return and 'the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.' Daniel 7:27 NIV Bless you all!

@@TallyCat1 yeah but there's only seven Kings when it's finished. And the little horn comes from( one of the 7.). You have to understand Daniel 8 !. You would be the first person that I would know. that understands Daniel 8. Daniel 8 was written (before Daniel 7 )so you can interpret Daniel 7!

That's 10 minus 3, which equals 7, not 10 plus 7. Anyway my main point was that we CAN understand what these things are with the text itself quite easily if we just read on, not like what Martin said, but anyways
