This carnivore, the Carnotaurus, was first discovered in Argentina. The name means 'meat-eating bull'... as if a regular bull wasn't bad enough.

I think it would have been awesome if Michael Crichton were to return to the chromatophore attributes in the juvenile raptors but now with the Sorna population. Because it's very unclear if both raptor populations possessed this attribute, or if it was unique to the wild raptors born on Nublar? If it was unique to the Nublar raptors, then why? Or did the juveniles observed during TLW at an age where they had lost that ability? There were some many routes that Crichton could have taken these mutant abilities, or maybe apply this feature to several other wild born animals from additional species too?

00:42, I read the novel and it's pretty intense! The Carnotaurus camouflaging reminds me of Predator, the same way he stalks his prey. He kills for pleasure, he hunts for sport, but this time, it picked the wrong man to hunt! Love that tagline.

Camaflouge ability means the Carno pair might also exist in the movie canon. They're just hidden in plain sight. It's how they eschewed capture when InGen relocated most of Sorna's dino population. Now, king & queen, roam the island, stalking the remaining Galli flocks & Para herds, with the occasional Compy ourderve. Their children, princes & princesses, destined to inherit this bountiful kingdom.

Yes, an awesome video. I agree it is important distinction that the creatures in JP are not real "dinosaurs", I say chimeric creations or "bio-engineered theme park monsters" but it is also a good notion to explore the science of genetics, and paleontology, and how this passion continues to evolve our understanding of the past, but also a look into the future. I wonder how would these bio-engineered chimeras be scientifically classified.

Wasn’t one of Levines local friend nabbed during the beginning exploration of the island by a carno, its been like a year or more since last I read The Lost World. I think the Carnotaurus did have this ability from its fossil counter part. This is mainly due to how sophisticated its camouflage ability actually was. It could accurately mimic a chain link fence, and a modern animal like a Cuttlefish can not to that degree. Add to that the behavioral differences. It literally was an ambush predator that took advantage of darkness. Perhaps its natural abilities were enhanced, but who can say for sure?

Maybe Crichton could have applied these mutant chromatophores in the 2nd generation animals as a common byproduct of how Wu spliced the dinosaur genomes, and what implications that it could have had for the tracking software for Jurassic Park itself? In that case, what impact could that have had on the park's population counts from one tally to another done minutes or hours later?

Your videos have given these books & films a depth that I myself wouldn't have been able to even conceptualize of had I been flying solo, and for that you have my gratitude, respect & will have my patronage once $ flows more steadily in my world. I recently finished 'The Lost World' novel, and 2-3 things gave me pause for thought, one of which was Levine's observing of the Carnos to "weigh five hundred pounds each" ... At ~7 feet tall & presumably almost three times that in length, I wondered immediately if Crichton had perhaps written "hundred" instead of "thousand" by mistake? I can't imagine that 500lbs does these animals justice.

In the book (German version) Levine pointet out, that's the color change is more like squids. Cuz they do it in such a fast and complex way, a chameleon couldn't do it. And in JW Wu also put squid DNA in the Indo. Maybe the Carnos are the first try? ^^ I let you with that!

Jurassic Park has so many horror moments that he easily could have nailed it. Sadly we'll never see him direct anothwr Jurassic nor do I think we might see a moment with the Carnotaurus like in TLW novel on screen unleas it was a short like the battle at big rock.

Technically, there is a possibility that some dinosaurs had the ability to camouflage since we don't even know what their skin color is. I see Michael Crichton's dinosaurs as a reminder on how little we still know about Dinosaurs. I like to see stuff like Dilophosaurus having a frill and spitting venom and Carnotaurus as being able to camouflage as a natural thing for those Dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park world as it's funner than simply using mutations as an excuse.

I think also it’s cause they used amphibian DNA. It’s why the Dinosaurs see spliced. Hence why raptors etc may have acted differently. It would be us splicing dogs DNA with ancient wolf dog DNA. There definitely would be abnormalities
