My best friend, after having suffered for over ten years, who was raised Buddhist and came to Christ, died on Good Friday. We took a lot of comfort from that. She was Laotian, and Good Friday was also the Laos New Year. I can’t wait to see her at the end of the World.

May her soul and, if it be possible, the souls of all who have passed from this life, through Thy mercy, rest in peace, for Thou art a good God and lovest mankind. Of Thy charity, O Lord, grant strength and courage to Joshua Shepherd and to all who feel the sting of her death, and unto Thee be glory and praise, along with Thy Father and the Holy Spirit, on God forever and ever. The Cross - a symbol of total triumph! I must say that Hillsong's No Other Name expresses the "why" of the Cross so brilliantly. I'm an orthodox Catholic who just loves being able to sing that song in my kitchen with all my heart and soul - especially the line "Behold, the triumph of the cross". And I also love Gregorian chant and the ancient Latin hymns I was taught in school. Thanks for another thoughtful video Brian.

Happy Easter to everyone. As I listen to Brian some things occur to me. There is a reason for the cross. It not only reminds us daily of the sacrifice Our Lord Jesus Christ made for all of us, indeed the entire world for all time, by taking our sins and nailing them to the cross, it also symbolizes our newfound relationship with The Father. The vertical part demonstrates our relationship with The Father. It is now open and direct. It points the way to Him. The crossbeam is the bridge that Christ's sacrifice repaired for all of us. He bridged the gap that sin created that kept us apart from The Father. This to me, is the meaning of the cross and why I embrace it.

That's an interesting take. I wonder what Jonathan Pageau's response would be? that's often missed that the Gospels are a comedy not a tragedy. "Familiarity with the Easter story has desensitised us to what both Paul and Nietzsche, in their very different ways, instinctively recognised in it: a scandal. The cross, that ancient tool of imperial power, remains what it has always been: the fitting symbol of a transfiguration in the affairs of humanity as profound and far-reaching as any in history. ‘God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.’ It is the audacity of it - the audacity of finding in a twisted and defeated corpse the glory of the creator of the universe - that serves to explain, more surely than anything else, the sheer strangeness of Christianity, and of the civilisation to which it gave birth" Tom Holland

“Catholics” and “Christians” are redundant terms, the same thing. Protestants belong to the Protestant religion, not the Church Jesus Christ founded. Anyone who rejects Jesus’ Church rejects him and the Father.

My Good Friday reflection: Lord Jesus...for what You endured for me and for all, to say thank you is not enough; my and everyone's earnest gratitude must respond with a lifetime of trust, that You will guide me and all followers, grant us wisdom & teach us how to pray & love. At the end of this day I too will be at the foot of Your cross, sorrowful for the times & ways I have so easily & casually discarded Your teachings. Even so, my Lord, Your Holy Spirit will reach out to pick up my heart, to bring us, into Your heavenly kingdom here on earth, Your Father's creation. Mother Mary, pray for us; pray I say yes. St. Joseph, terror of demons, pray for us. 🤍✝️🤍

Matthew 16:18-19 is the historical authority through Peter's successors and the Church reaction to historical threats afterwards (Heresies). The Sign of The Cross (including the actual symbol of the Cross) is biblical based on Matthew's verses and approved traditions (2nd Thessalonians 2:15).

Happy Easter! Thank you for your message, Brian. How do you respond to people who say that it is abusive behavior that God would have His Son die on the cross for our sins? I hear that a lot and I'm not sure how to respond, to be honest.
@davidmcpike83592 жыл бұрын
Same question applies to Abraham and his readiness to kill his son Isaac -- much more pressingly, in fact, since God's Son was himself true God and was as fully responsible for the plan of salvation through the cross as was the Father. To understand Abraham and Isaac and how it's not a matter of abuse, I think you can look at what is expressed in the faith of Peter (and all the martyrs): "You will all fall away." -- "Lord, never! I am ready accept to death rather than abandon or betray you!" Peter fell (before he was strengthened). But in his readiness to die, he had the same (right) attitude as Abraham (and Isaac): Death is fearful indeed; but divinely infused love (with faith, confidence, trust in the divine plan) is stronger than (the dread of) death (and of those who can torture and kill the body).
@lightgoldenlight2 жыл бұрын
@@davidmcpike8359 My question does apply to Abraham and Isaac. I'm a Christian and I don't feel 'good' about this passage in scripture. I can understand how those outside of Christianity would view this as problematic.

"Not all things point to something else" - but they do. Every effect points to a cause. All creatures point to a creator. And "all things are good" does not mean "no things are good." That is a grave error, brother. Also, the cross does not show us that death and suffering are not to be feared. They most certainly are. That's what the sweating blood was about, in part, and the accompanying prayer ("take this cup from me"). If the cross was really about being fearless in the face of death then the lesson of Easter would be to be careless (imprudent, reckless) in the face of deadly danger. But Jesus was not fearless (or reckless, or insensible); he was courageous, which means he acted well, with virtue, in the face of the naturally and rightly and truly fearful events he suffered through.
