I too have that model, it great for Gospel, and folk music. And the sound it creates is very soothing. Oh and I very often pick one up just to clean and polish.

I was gifted my grandads today. He grew up in the French Alps and learnt to play by ear, he was incredibly talented. Mine has 16 holes on each side though, so double the holes from this review. Is that because it is bigger or has more notes?
@PurchaseReviewsАй бұрын
So nice, yeah, more notes. Enjoy it, the older ones look so much nicer than the ones you can buy in the shops these days, also the new ones are around $300, so not cheap either. Thanks for your comment.

I only remembered the biggest model "120" from my childhood, then recently, found one small "64" model in a second hand store, original vintage in perfect condition for a few bucks. Rediscovered the harmonica in that way a loving it more than ever 🤠
@PurchaseReviews3 жыл бұрын
They’re great aren’t they. Almost sound a bit like an accordion. I thought the echo harp was easy to play, until I bought a hohner marine band harmonica. They are even easier to play than the echo harp. Both beautiful instruments. Thanks Bläk.

Hello mate, Thank you for taking the time to share this. Like you Ime a guitarist mainly and a beginner with the harmonica. I like the fact that the hohner echo is quite forgiving, and I needed to hear it before I forked out 90 odd quid. Ime now gonna buy one, because your video helped me decide. Nice one ! Appreciation from England, U.K.

mike hardy Thanks for your kind words Mike. They are a lot of fun. The only other thing I should have mentioned, is that brand new harmonicas need to be worn in. Mine is an older one, so I didn’t need to. Just play it how you normally would, and over a few days it will wear in nicely. Thanks again 👍🏻

Great review mate. If you like this harp, you'll love a diatonic. They're cheaper and even easier to play. Hohner makes great diatonics, and I personally recommend the Marine Band Deluxe or Crossover. Also, Hohner's Marine Band is from 1896. The company dates back to 1857.
@PurchaseReviews4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. I’ve never tried the diatonic, I’m definitely going to have to try it now that you mentioned it. The harp is pretty easy to play. Once you play something a few times, the pattern just some how stays in your head and you don’t forget it. They are definitely an easy instrument to learn. To master it is another story though.
@Voltanaut4 жыл бұрын
@@PurchaseReviews Easy patterns are the joy of harmonicas, especially diatonics, which have great chords in the first octave and a diatonic major scale in the scale octave.

I've got two of those harps. One is exactly the same as yours and the 2nd is the same keys but, has 20 holes. Both of them are great harps and like you, when I feel a need to play, I grab one of these. I've probably got 20+ more harps from Hohners, to Lee Oskars. Another fav of mine is my Hohner XB-40.. The XB stands for Extreme Bending.. That's one I'll grab as well.

Have you got a Marine Band? I can’t believe how easy they are to play. Wow, 20 harmonicas is 17 more than what I have. That’s a big collection. I always keep one on the dining table to play for my daughter during meals.

You’ve already come a long way then. You play very well. I’ve been using a Hohner Marine Band, and I love it, it’s the easiest harmonica to play, and I can bend notes much easier than on an echo harp. Just a bit of practice every few days, and it’s amazing what you can learn playing by ear. The brain has an amazing way of remembering breathe patterns when done often enough. It’s just getting into the habit. Thank you for the comment, I’m playing much better these days. On the video review it was my first few tries. Thanks again.

@PurchaseReviews4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s a gorgeous harmonica. The older echo harp has clearer engravings than the newer harp though. Wow! you have many harmonica’s. I would like to try a diatonic harmonica next time. In this video I’m actually playing it the opposite way, I didn’t know that they are supposed to be played lower notes to the left and higher to the right 😩 I’ve learned the right way now. Thank you for your message. I hope you get your echo harp soon, they seem to be hard to find these days. Enjoy your day.

Make sure that your own mouth is clean before playing, so no bits of food get stuck inside the harmonica. Also, if you blow on the harmonica to hard it will damage the reeds inside. Harmonica’s can be opened up and gently brushed, and if looked after can last up to several years. They also need to be stored correctly. Some harmonicas can be washed, some others can not. Here is a useful link, hope it helps you. theharmonicacompany.com/blog/how-to-clean-harmonica/
