@Haribo I never heard of F1 until Neflix "Drive to Survive" came out. 2 years ago I subscribed to the F1 channel and love it. I've been a Red Bull fan from the beginning. Of course, I'm a Max fan, but also a Charles LeClerc fan...I would have loved to see him win the championship last year. I've watched a lot of the documentaries on the F1 channel and I know if I'd been watching years ago I would have been a Senna/Prost fan too.

Spa really needs some outside investors or them putting the race day ticket earnings into the facilities. As you say, access roads (and campsites nearby) are a mess, specially if it rains. Besides the challenge of the track itself for drivers has been downgraded by being able to take Eau Rogue and Radilllion flat out no problem today. Sadly the track is also like a fine wine. Drivers and old time fans love it, but it seems it doesn´t get the mass appeal of something like Coca Cola. And when mass market profits are the target, you just can´t have fine wine circuits, at least in the mind of the FIA.

@potatogirlcultist19 Жыл бұрын
@@thesunnynationg I think the fact that it's difficult makes it enjoyable to watch and drive on in racing games. It's a corner where good aero makes a difference. On the old layout you were really on the edge because you were running so little downforce. A driver who could really push it like Alesi or Montoya is a joy to watch through there. Then they changed the layout and it became almost flat out, a bit like turn 9 in Cataluyna (which is probably my favourite corner in the world). The W10 was insane through there. But I can see why you would find it awkward. It took me ages to find the correct turn in point in racing games, and after a massive straight on the old version it would have made more sense to change it to a tight corner there to allow better for better overtaking.

I think F1 is going to face a challenge over the next few years. A lot of new fans are used to seeing the all action versions of races (including behind the scenes) on Drive to Survive, and that popularity is good for the sport, but on the flip side ticket prises are rising, people will leave teams because of the schedule and races will go wherever the most money is. As well as this, while races will always be watched by hardcore fans, there's quite a few friends of mine who - when they've watched a full race - realise that watching it on Netflix may be more entertaining (despite it being way more dramatised) than following it live. Just a random thought, but the bubble could burst at some point and they don't seem like they care and are instead chasing the money - as we can see with the new circuit locations!
@VykronianF1
@VykronianF1 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! Unless the newbies latch on to F1 like the actual fans then the hype will die down. They keep prioritizing the show, as it gets butts in seats. But like any show people get tired of it and watch something else. So instead of catering to the masses why not improve F1 to be the best it can. All of this puffed out chest nonsense Dominicarli, f1 bosses, team bosses, and FIA have will back fire and leave F1 in a far worse state then ever before except this time the money won’t be there.

Now, I'm a student and surrounded by nerds like myself, so my perception might be skewed. However, there are a lot of people in my social circle that's gotten into F1 by DtS, but mainly watch races now. Many will probably prefer just watching on Netflix, but some will definitely stay with races as well. It should increase the total viewership all in all, as long as the fans don't fatigue too much. Unlikely to stay booming forever though... Time will tell

Similarly a lot of european tracks could alternate for slots like turkey/azerbijan, barcelona/valencia, paul ricard/hockenhiem etc. The venues should have an easier time selling tickets because it's like the olympics or world cup where it's more special because it isn't every year.

what I hate about the talk of a london street circuit is that Crystal Palace circuit existed, has heritage, is basically a set of a few streets now so could be made in to a street circuit, and wouldnt be an awfully designed modern track in the middle of london, the designers would be at least somewhat limited by the original layout and so would probably make a better track. and its not like either option is significantly more work to do, the streets of london are already not suitable for F1 cars so would need to be fully resurfaced anyway, and then the physical space for road widening for crystal palace since its in a park... going back to the older layout and youll probably already have a good track for modern cars surprisingly, with a more intricate interior section circling the lake. maybe a track there would also bring in interest to rebuild the crystal palace its self after it was destroyed in a fire, which would be a beautiful addition to the area to have that back. I guess until then the foundation of it would serve as a place to put grandstands and so on.

And, if you take it off the calendar, it'd be like taking of the Indianapolis 500 out of the IndyCar or the 24h LeMans out of the WEC. And the fact in the video it was mentioned that Las Vegas, the most "wow they couldn't just done anything worse"-esque design, could be its replacement... Nah yeah nah, if I ever wanted to have a dull circuit with a clusterfuck of race, I'd choose Monaco x100 times over something "artificial" that has no relationship at all with F1 history nor its culture.

But we have found the scapegoat (size of the cars) and can continue to not waste any real thoughts about it. Im sorry but F2 shows pretty clearly that you only need balls to try to overtake (even in Monaco). They are 10 cm less wide and 25cm shorter. They are legit boats as well.

Its literally a 2 hour "sightseeing show" with the problem that Vegas has NOTHING TO SIGHTSEE, but glass panels and fancy lights) Imola (as much as i love Italy, as much as i love this track in specifically, Monza > Imola, plus its only there to make it to 23 races) Hungary (despite being on the calender since forever i dont know anyone besides me enjoying the Hungaroring on a regular basis) Singapore - for it is a replica of monaco Netherlands - Commercially a bigger plus than on track But removing Spa for it? hell naaaaaaaaw. I always think that Monaco should become "the historic gp", thus letting every team race with a special livery for that race every year, like a way to honor past teams/liveries/sponsors of those eras. Just like McLaren did with the Gulf livery. Just something that makes a little bit more exiting the Monaco GP since cars won't become smaller in year to come for overtakes.

If it was only the drivers making a stand in the event of a 28+ race calendar, maybe a compromise from the FIA could be to introduce some kind of rule where each team has to field their "reserve" driver for X amount of races per season. It'd be a means of helping a reserve driver gain actual racing experience whilst retaining a "fair" workload on the "main" two drivers. It would be problematic though for constructors, more so the backmarker teams who maybe have a smaller workforce, as their staff are more likely to tire from an extended calendar than, say, RB/Ferrari/Mercedes who could potentially rotate some of their staff. Kyalami should 100% be on the calendar though, and Monaco needs binning. There's been regulation changes over time to encourage on-track overtaking, which Monaco sadly negates, making the race feel redundant. It'd be a shame to lose Spa as it is one of my favourite tracks. But I think sadly the writing is on the wall for it, maybe not forever, but for a significant number of years. I'd love to see Cota binned off the calendar too but I know that won't happen!

I'd say Spa stopped providing bangers because of DRS. Many of the overtaking opportunities the track provides aren't worth taking anymore because you'd be giving DRS to your opponent in the next DRS zone, and the overtakes we get in DRS zones are boring because DRS makes it too easy.

There are a few different types of tracks I've noticed since starting to watch F1. Some tracks fit into multiple categories. There are money tracks, like those in the Middle East, which really only exist to pay for the sports. There are spectacle tracks, like Miami and probably Vegas, which are there to increase the bombast of the sport. There are classic tracks, like Monza and Spa, which are fun to watch and have a great sense of history. Then there are fan/'modern' tracks, I'd say. Not just street circuits, but tracks that are much easier to enjoy in person due to better parking, newer facilities and stuff like that. Think COTA and Canada. Silverstone seems to be quite pleasant to go to from what I here, so that's both kind of a modern/fan track and a classic track as well.

I think the reason for circuits to be struggling is that they have higher costs due to them being permanent venues that have yearly running and maintenance costs. Obviously there's other races there too but clearly it's not enough to break even. Meanwhile street circuits just need government approval and some streets getting blocked for around 3 weeks, building up and taking down the circuit. No extra costs. Probably very cheap to run compared to the permanent tracks. I think ideally what they should start doing is if they're going to move towards more street circuits make more street circuits that are like Albert Park: street circuits with wide roads and runoff at sharp corners and chicanes for good overtaking opportunities and less punishment for mistakes.

LMFAOOO You really overestimate the "power" of random Lawrence Stroll. Hes just some random Team Owner. And they the smallest of the 5 (until Godfather Stroll came they didnt sold more than 7000 (yes, THOUSAND) road cars per year). Ferrari has written their influence IN RULES (and payments//although i think they have run out or doing so in the near future), Mercedes is just the stereotypical german car manufacturer (fast, solid, but we should check the emissions), Renault are French - for better or for worse, and McLaren is just liked by many people. Stroll has nothing to do with the Canadian track being on the calender, but if hes living rent free in so many places one can understand where he got the money to buy the entire company. If you want to point at one individual that is the reason why Circut X is on the Calender, i give you a few names: - Emily Prazer - Mohammed bin Salman - Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
