Economic improvement over time is supposed to be achieved by having vigorous debate from those with varying perspectives. No one has a monopoly on great ideas that could unleash economic empowerment for households and economics. But as if often the case on these fronts, those with more fierce views on how to improve things can sometimes get put in a box and labeled as too extreme. That is where one could find Judy Shelton, a one-time nominee by former President Donald Trump to join the Federal Reserve board in 2020. Shelton was slammed by lawmakers throughout the nominating process for her support of the gold standard, among other more aggressive ideas to improve the economy and financial markets. Shelton didn’t win approval for the Fed board, but remains close to the Trump camp and is reportedly on his shortlist to be the Fed chair should he win four more years in the White House. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi goes in-depth with Judy Shelton, who is out with a new book called “Good as Gold: How to Unleash the Power of Sound Money.” In the latest episode of Opening Bid, the pair discuss some of her perceived controversial ideas and if she has any interest in being Fed chair.

The Fed goal SHOULD be 0% per year; thank you Judy! This simple factor has far more impact than meets the eye.

I think the US Fed inflation target should coincide with population growth of the world. It's been in the neighborhood of 1% per year for the last 5 years give or take a tenth.

if money supply increase at the same rate as population, that is 0% inflation. Inflation is when prices increase. There is no logical reason why inflation should be the same rate as population increase. Not correlated.

@@hanntonn2 And your reason why we should have a positive rate of inflation is...

@@KungPowEnterFist That is not what I wrote. I think inflation should be 0% per year to keep prices stable, but that is impossible because of how money is created. Money is born as debt and more of it disappears because of interest than the amount created, so the money supply has to keep increasing exponentially to allow people to pay the exponentially growing debt. This problem would be solved if the new money created was considered to be owned by all citizen and all interest charged would return to the people as dividend, thus keeping the debt size the same as the amount of money in circulation. Once debts are paid, the money supply would come back to a base amount. Money created ex nihilo should never be treated as a private asset as it is now. Lending money ex nihilo dilutes the money of everyone in the country, so it is a hidden theft. That is why banks revenues from interests on the creation of money should be paid to all citizens. Banks should only charge a fixed amount of fees for doing the job, not a percentage, since they don't own the money they create. In the current system, the inflation is to be adjusted to the increase of debt in the world, not population. If the population remains the same, inflation will still keep increasing prices because the debt keeps increasing.

@@hanntonn2 "Money" is a very broad term. Let us know when you figure that out, and then maybe you can speak intelligently on this.
