All you really need to know about the biblical 'god' is that, according to his own 'son,' there is only ONE 'sin' that is unforgiveable. Lying? Stealing? Brutality? Murder? Child abuse? Even genocide? Nope. Ask for forgiveness, and the power of Jesus' 'sacrifice' will bring you redemption. No, the ONLY 'sin' that will irrevocably condemn you to an eternity of fiery torment is blasphemy of the 'holy spirit.' Saying the wrong words. Badmouth the boss and you burn, and even Jesus himself can't save you! If you can read that declaration (which appears more than once in the Gospels) and STILL declare that the 'god' of the Bible is moral and good, you're not just delusional. You're INSANE.

Yes!!! This is my first exposure to your podcast. I LOVED IT! I was raised in 2 different religions in my 68 years thus far. I ended up leaving both of them for the past 10 years...interestingly enough ...for exactly the things you (rationally and beautifully expressed in this video. WELL DONE! And how nice to finally come across someone who actually had all the same thoughts, concerns and reactions that I have had for so long over this religious belief system much of humanity has constructed for ourselves. 😢. Uh, Bruce, religion and faith are emotion driven is actually an astute observation cuz people, kill or die for their beliefs and people fight over for depending how strong their convictions. Today, scholars, have tried to overcome their emotional involvement and are approaching religion on a much higher level of why religion persists in a highly advanced society in terms of education, intellect and vocation along with more material, scientific and intellectual pursuits. As we expand our knowledge and pushed the boundaries of the great unknown, we stll have to grapple with the big questions of why we exist at all and the purpose of all existence and if there is an extension of life beyond this one or another form of existence beyond this material body we have and this physical universe we now occupy?

I could never understand why religion continually looks to the past for a guide to the future. Using ignorance of the past as a guide for enlightenment is preposterous. Why discussing what people said thousands of years ago is relevant to life today is a mystery. If hells fire and damnation is what you think a loving God wants for you, then you should pay more attention to your so-called savior. The reason they call it preaching is because it is one way no question allowed. If you watch religious programs on TV, you will notice the only comments from the audience is Amen. No preacher will ever have the answer to any question with their head stuck in the Bible. Religion is just an extremely profitable business, that is only open on Sunday.

I was taught growing up as a catholic that "God" is good. Surely enough,in French and Creole(my country's 2 official languages),the adjective good is placed before "God",thus "bon Dieu" and "bon Dye",both literally translated in English by "good God". The first time I read the bible(in my twenties),I said to myself:wait a minute,that god has nothing to do with the being I was taught was good. It was clear to me that it was powerful,but not omniscient at all. He was more evil to me,a sort of "trial and error" entity. I was in a state of shock,to say the least. I later found out over the years(I'm now 75) that I wasn't the only one who came up with the same conclusion. I've been labeled an atheist,even been hated for that by "friends",even some relatives. No one can deny that hurts,but so be it I've come to say to myself. I'll end by saying mankind is in a state of total confusion,and I've been an agnostic for as long as I can remember.

Why would an all-powerful God want to remain invisible and hidden. To be so demonstrative about rules and behavior and yet so meek, is absurd. A good person is moral when no one is looking, I find when I do something that helps someone else, a rush of good feelings is my reward. You must have have reading and comprehension issues if you think that Galatians 3:28 lays out that slavery is wrong. All it is actually saying is that all men are equal before the g0d of the bible which was simply to make the slaves feel better about their plight. The book of Leviticus which lays down the laws given to Moses by the tribal war g0d of Abraham makes it 100% clear that slavery is permitted and condoned, as long as the slaves come from one of "the other" tribes. I believe that the bible is just a collection of stories that were for entertainment purposes only. Ex. In the bible Elijah ran faster than a horse. People of that time had no idea about the speed of light, so horses were the fastest things in that time. Elijah was the flash of that day. In Hebrew Myth King Solomon rode on a flying carpet. He would have been considered the Superman of that time. Then you have Samson, when the spirit of God was upon him he would rage and kill hundreds on men and women. Sounds like the Hulk to me. I think the reason is that Hinduism (and Buddhism too) are less unified and dogmatic than the Abrahamic religions. They have often widely varying beliefs within the religion and lack a single holy text like the Bible (though holy texts do exist in those religions). As Hinduism and Buddhism make fewer absolutist claims, there’s less there to challenge. Having said that, you can still challenge particular beliefs or customs within those religions. For example you can make the valid objection that there is no evidence that reincarnation or specific Gods like Vishnu exist.

No-and try to follow-it has been common for millennia for writers to observe and learn from an event but not have the tools to completely understand causality to write about it in a fashion understood by others of the day.
