Always liked Jeff. Was one of my favorite riders and had so many fans because there was a period people were tired of seeing McGrath win (even though his wins were well deserved) and Jeff was the only one who seemed to be able to steal the win from him. Like Jeff was the only answer to McGrath's dominance. The fact he went through and answered all those messages of support on social media tells exactly how Jeff Emig is truly a good guy.

I even encountered you once in Vegas (parking structure) you were totally cool and involved with our interaction, I didn't ask for an autograph or pic but we had a moment, I told you I was a fan and have always looked up to your style and success in racing. Anyway, I also stood in line at one of the hotels in Vegas for a breakfast Buffet and bumped into Ricky....another awesome encounter (an one of my heroes). I've also bumped into one other famous rider that was a total ass (no need to mention a name and spread hate on someone if they were just having a bad moment). My kids grew up with us taking them to the track watching McGrath, Emig , RC . And James Stewart and all the changing of the guard cool time to watch racing , I dont know how anyone could hate on Ricky he gave it all every race he was in it was crazy watch someone ride on the edge like he did . Also have to mention Doug Henry, larroco .lusk , albertine windham it was a great time to be a fan .

The problem with the SX broadcast is the director and the structure. For example, when Will has something about her conversation with so-and-so’s mechanic. Or when they cut away from a battle to show the leader cross the finish line.

There was a lot of criticism of Jeff and Ralph when they took over from David Bailey and Art Eckman. People were brutal about Jeff when he first went into the booth. To his credit, he took the criticism in the best light and worked to be a fantastic announcer. Ricky is trying to do the same thing. Pretty much, the new team will catch crap from fans of the last broadcast team.

I love Ricky in the booth. He has been doing it since I started following the sport again so I guess it’s all I know but I’d miss him if he wasn’t doing it anymore. Knowledgeable, passionate, entertaining and generally seems like a good dude. Loved Emig on the broadcast, but time marches on. I remember haters talking about how "horrible" he was because he struggled at times, and I would vehemently defend Emig because he overcame so much. Ricky seems to have a nervous energy when he is in the booth, it fragments his speech, he can't find the right words, stumbles. I have had this issue in public speaking until i could calm down and just be myself. If he could forget that he was on tv and just hanging with some friends, I bet he would be awesome. The hate for Rickey came from the blank stare moments when he wouldn’t catch a great opportunity to weigh in. And just the face that he wouldn’t just unload his knowledge. Like he was holding back or scared to say something negative or describe what a ride did right or wrong. It took some time but I don’t think he catches near as much as before.

Bob Hurricane Hannah still my favorite. The things he did. Dallas Ga, 1977, 500/125 National, Burnt Hickory, epic track, Marty Smith the man, Hannah down in first corner, broke clutch, last to first twenty minutes forty five minute motos old school, Smith was done. Second moto, back and forth, Hannah pulled away. Smith done. You should have seen what he did, bouncin' off shit, wide open, yz400....Unadilla MXDN, mud 125 finished third to win, unreal.

I just assume RC gives his analysis from his perspective (duh), and RC was epically analytical/self-disciplined. He's the guy who made professional MX racing serious business. That sort of person is going to be critical of himself and thus of the person he's imagining himself in their place. iunno. Anyway, I was shocked when I tuned into a broadcast in the 2000s and heard Jeff Emig. I always thought he was a terrible interview and terrible speaker. He said "you know" in every sentence. I hardly recognized him on the broadcast (I think it was the Dungy era?). Shame on me for judging a kid in his early 20s, but also props to honing your craft! He sounded great. Glad to hear Emig's doing WSX.

The hate for RC comes mostly from people who cant stand that he's considered the goat and not James Stewart. Yes the primary source of the hate is coming from James Stewart fans. I have investigated this a lot and every interaction through research of who I'm interacting with 100% of the time turned out to be Stewart fans. I love RC & Stewart so it's not a problem for me.

The only problem Chase has is, Honda gave him a CR that’s has a front end problem. Why do you think Ken left Honda. If you look back, the CR had the same problem when Ken was there and Honda would not make the changes that Ken asked for. They finally decided to listen to Chase and they made some big changes to the CR. That’s why Chase has been doing so good, the last few races. You guys should do a detailed video on this subject.

I think Ricky doesn't know when to stop talking. It's even worse when there are three of them in the booth. The constant chatter makes the racing so difficult to enjoy and I end up turning the volume off. Ricky could make the same points with 75% fewer words. It feels like three guys competing to be the best auctioneer and the analysis stopped two laps after the gate dropped. Emig said it best by choosing to watch a game based on how well he liked the announcing. To me Wiegie and Langston were the best combo. I don't know the guys name that announces Race Day Live but him and Daniel make a good combo and I would like to have them do a race and see how it goes.

Not sure of all the pictures you could have chosen to represent the old school GP Motocross that had riders smoking on the line or b4 a race or even after, that Roger , the Man, DeCoster , was it. RD at the time was , in a comparison, like , Carmicheal was , to his competition. As each was a turning point in MX history that both took training and fitness to a WHOLE another level. RD in the mid 70s , Johnny O'Mara / David Baily in the mid 80s , RC in the mid 90s , and almost everyone after that. RD was not a smoker ( that i am aware of anyway) I could be wrong. But if correct that is kinda an insult to him as he is still very active in the sport and sure was not impressed. JMO

Carmichael, was great rider. No denying that, he was still riding for Kawasaki at the time and this was at the Superdome in New Orleans and was very early in his career. We were in line for autographs, like the first in line. One the kid's that was with us really wanted a picture with him. But Ricky got pissed, signed his shirt and just look at us like we were crazy for even asking. His team manager came over to us and apologized. He was a little prick. We were walking around the pits and saw Henry and McGrath they took the kids and put them on their bike's to take picture's, and gave them signed tshirts for free. Maybe, it was the difference in maturity, but really was a bum deal with Ricky. Everyone in his line was like what is his problem.

I'll tell you what the deal is for me, Ricky Carmichael is my favorite racer of all time hands down. He's just not great at being a broadcaster. He is way better than he used to be, but he still stumbles over his words, uses terrible grammar, I know that shouldn't matter but it's annoying. Jeff was much better at the job than Ricky. I assume Ricky brings more to the broadcast as far as viewers or something so that's why he has the job, but Emig was very good at it.

Carmichael was one of the first pros. he wasnt a 'regular' looking hero type. At that time, you were a 'sell out' for going corporate - got the best gear - always won. For his generation, theres nothing to like about that unfair advantage. Bike got given the credit, for the rider. He got paid lots where others didnt. its the pro amateur thing. Go watch carmichaels race in the wet in (i think) california...he laps everyone up to second and just floats over the wet ruts, everyone else is having trouble in them. Its like hes on a different track

Here's my take, racer fans are hard core fans, they live and breathe moto. In the past we have had some really good broadcasters or color men. RJ and DB were outstanding, both in their insight/knowledge and delivery. Langston and Emig also very good. Now we have RC, knowledgeable but not to the same level, poor delivery, repetitive (inside-outside) and sounds like a child with his ooooohhs and aaaaahs. People have some high expectations from RC, because the bar was set by RJ and DB. If Ricky can listen to some of those old broadcasts, then his own and learn from it, he will get better. Im not a hater, Ricky is the goat, just not in the booth.

hes still very poor at announcing, he slows down the viewing pace of the race with his stories, which half the time he brings up stories about himself. He speaks to the audience like he reminiscing to other retired riders, instead of talking about what is happening. We need more of a play by play, quicker wit kind of announcer, like that australian guy is good, but Ricky slows down the pace for the viewers experiences

I thought Emig did a much better job than Ricky ever did. I also would rather have David Bailey in the booth. Very knowlegeable and a good talker. James Stewart does a great job, because he can tell you what is going on because he has been there and can verbalise it . Ricky has been there but can't say it. Great racer but I feel that his lack of education holds him back from being a great analyst. On the other hand, Adam Cianciurilo did a good job when he was in the booth.

Nobody will hit 150 wins in a career like RC did. That’s probably why they hate on him. He’s the GOAT for a reason.
