The Lions always tried to be somebody else. They got Matt Millen and Steve Mariucci and tried to be a West Coast Offense team. They tried to be a run & shoot team, a greatest show on turf team ... all sorts of fads, all sorts of "upside" draft picks to placate the fans. But when they finally accepted that a Detroit team should have a rugged style emphasizing meat & potatoes studs in quantity instead of a few skill-position stars, it felt right to us. Sometimes who you are starts with where you are.

Also lions tried to be the Patriots under Quinn and Patricia… ugh

Good post, but we were the greatest show on turf before the Rams were. They won the SB so obviously it's their nic name. But if you're younger that 35 go look at Barry Sanders, Herman Moore, Brett Perriman, and Jonny Morton. The mid 90s Detroit lions were special, it was ownership that screwed it up.

The lions finally have the right GM, head coach, and QB all at once which why they’re successful. As for the Jags, they do have Lawrence but don’t have the right GM and head coach to run the organization..

As a lifelong Lions fan what Dan said about the rebuild is spot on. It starts with culture. Hire people who fit your culture. Build an identity. Draft and develop players that fit your culture and identity. And build through the trenches first. You can have all the skill players you want but if you can’t control the line of scrimmage it doesn’t matter.

Dan Miller is a good man. But im not. The QuinnTricia regime in Detroit was an absolute cancer for the Lions organization. The firing of them following the Thanksgiving loss should've been a local holiday here in Detroit.

I’m grateful we had them just because of what happened after

QuinnTricia built 4/5th of the Lions OL, which has been the foundation of their rebuild. Ragnow, Decker, Glasgow, and Jonah Jackson were all drafted by Quinn. Jackson was eventually replaced by Zeitler, but JJ was a pro bowler for the Lions and an integral piece of their turnaround in '21-'22. Quinn also brought Jack Fox here and drafted Reeves-Maybin who is one of the Lions captains today. QuinnTricia obviously failed at every other part of their jobs, but it's disingenuous to not credit them for the things they got right, because those pieces are now key parts of the Lions success.

I agree, but Millen's firing I broke out the fireworks and thank jr for speaking up
@diversifiedassociates87882 күн бұрын
No credit. Those idiots also turned around and got rid of slay and diggs and destroyed the locker room and never built any type of culture. Are you serious. Do you not remember we were a winning franchise until those morons took over. Oh and no, Quinn doesn't get credit for Caldwell's regime
@jgk3812 күн бұрын
@@diversifiedassociates8788 You're entitled to have whatever opinion you want of Quinn, but it's a fact that he drafted 3/5th of the Lions current starting OL, as well as 2 pro bowlers on special teams (Fox/Maybin), and it's also a fact that those players are important pieces of their success today. So he did contribute to this current rebuild whether you want to believe it or not.

You kind of have to look a the Lions overall top picks their first two years: Penei Sewall and Aiden Hutchenson. Biggest FA signing in the last few years? DJ Reader. Alim McNeill got an early extension. Decker and Ragnow? Paid. The Lions focus on the inside out because it's part of who they are. Run the ball and stop the run. Everything else they do: the high powered offense, a suddenly powerful defense, etc. It's all predicated on that.
