Great video! Thank you for your time in publishing your review. I also share your passion for jeeps. I have owned jeeps all my life. You are correct about Willys Overland building jeeps for the US military during WW-2. But, it was the American Bantam Car Company in Butler, Pennsylvania that developed and built the first jeep. Willys Overland was contracted to build jeeps (also Ford) during WW-2 because it had the capacity to build thousands of jeeps. Bantam was a small company and did not have the capacity to build thousands of jeeps required by the US government. I am looking forward to watch more videos from you in the future.

TFL noted something about Jeeps once that really stood out to me… in all of their testing over the years, the Wrangler was the only vehicle that never left them stranded on the trails. It was more likely to destroy itself limping back than give up trying to get you out.

I've had the typical mods on for nearly two years and it has taken me on great adventures including one of my favorite places, Moab. I own several vehicles and every time I hop into the Jeep it puts a smile on my face. I am just blown away at it's looks, offroad capability, and functionality. It's perfectly imperfect and not for everyone. To each their own. This Jeep has a permanent home in my stable. Great video!

I’m currently on my fifth Jeep. Started with a CJ 5 all the way up to the current JL. Not one has ever ever left me stranded. I would rather tow my Jeep down the road, than own a Toyota. Let’s take a stock Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon and a stock Toyota 4Runner on the Rubicon Trail and see how they compare in performance and body damage. Not to mention the Jeep having some character vs looking like every other SUV on the road.

Jeep Culture is definately a US only thing. Here in Aus the conglomerate that imports and deals Jeeps in Australia is notorious for leaving you out to dry. You wont get a 4runner or Taco out here but you'll see thousands upon thousands of Toyota Landcruiser Prados (90 series, 150 series), 76/79 series Land cruisers and big boy Land Cruisers (80 series, 105 series, 200 series, 300 series). Aside from the Prado (which is more of a tourer) the other landcruisers have solid axles and come with factory long range diesel fuel tanks etc. All have grown a reputation for being insanely reliable and still command large sums of money with 200,300,400,000 kms on them. Jeeps on the other hand are hard to find.

I've taken my Jeep to All over Moab, Colorado, and down in the heat of Texas with no issues thus far. It has performed beautifully. All vehicle brands have problems from time to time. It just seems that the issues Jeep has had get over inflated. Keep your rig in shape and maintained and they do just fine. The only complaint I really have about Jeeps are the windshields. They will chip and crack if you look at them wrong. I'm on my second one thus far.

Non-Jeep owners: Run a search "[your vehicle] + recall" and get humbled. There is no defect free manufacturer. You have to learn how to work on your vehicle yourself. This is where Jeep really shines. Jeeps are easy to learn how to fix and maintain. Of course there's the rock crawling, the clubs, the mods and knowing your vehicle was built in the USA. But it's really the metamorphosis into becoming self-reliant that makes Jeeps what they are.

What people seem to forget is that we modify our rigs and then beat on them off road. Therefore reliability will tend to go down when we alter our vehicles from the factory and this includes Toyotas. Modified Toyotas wheeled off-pavement will be subject to reliability issues just like a Jeep or any other vehicle used off road.

I saw this and had to react….. I own both a 2012 Tacoma long bed I bought new and a 2017 Jeep Sahara. I love them both, and each has its own application. The Tacoma is stock and has 80,000 miles. I’m 68 and I’m sure it will carry me until I can’t drive due to old age. It’s been very dependable and has had minimal problems. Now for the Sahara, I’ve spent considerably more money on, but it’s all been upgrades. Bumpers, winch, lights, lift kit, tires, overland camping gear. You know the deal. But I bought it as a toy, which it is. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. It has gotten me to the remote locations where I like to fish. It’s been very dependable even as a daily driver. And I love the whole duck thing. All I can say is do your research, know what you’re getting into, don’t buy a jeep and expect a Cadillac. The only issue that wasn't of mine own doing was a coolant issue. Fixed under warranty. I have had lots of upgrades done out of pocket on my Jeep. Upgraded all 4 axel shafts, re-geared to 4:56 and added TrueTrac LSD both front and rear. Did kill a transmission in FL at JB24, Jeep did make it back to WV before complete failure. Currently back in shop for second Transmission. Caught a branch on the underside and totally messed it up, tore off transmission heater and cooling lines. (insurance fix) I am paying the difference to upgrade driveshafts because the front did get damaged. While there having a full Metal Cloak protection added so that don't ever happen again. Yes I love my Jeep. Hater's are always going to hate.

I have a 2021 Gladiator also (Rubi). Have had some issues with it but all were minor and all but one issues was covered under warranty. I have an extended warranty now -- Mopar Max Care as my original 3-year/36K miles factory warranty expired back in April (2024) -- so I'm good until 2029/85K miles on the odometer. But I DO hope the "bugs" in MY Gladiator (known to Jeep so they ALL should have been under warranty or TSBs for fixes) have all surfaced and are done with now. Regardless of the issues I still like my Gladiator and NONE of the other mid-size trucks (like the Chevy Colorado ZR2 - close but still 2nd place) met my needs/wants. And were I needing to buy a new vehicle again today, I'd still be restricted to the mid-size segment and I'd get another Gladiator (Rubi)again...that is, if I could get past the current pricing! @@Jeep144 I've had 2 "known issues" and now a 3rd "known issue." The 2 earlier ones were a leaking rear window (fixed under original/factory 3-year warranty) and a broken sun visor (fixed after the 3-year warranty expired, under Max Care extended warranty but I paid $100 deductible on a $363 repair bill where they replaced the visor). The other one may break also (as it has the same known defect) but Jeep wouldn't it because it needs to break first...so I'm waiting for it to break. ;-) NOW though, my "outstanding" issue (but also known to Jeep, as said) is the 3rd brakelight (LED) on the bed's tailgate (top next to the gate-handle) that seems to have an internal defect (poor design & solder connection), but has been denied under the Max Care warranty as "it's a bulb and we don't warranty bulbs." ALL of these are issues other Gladiators have had. However, unlike you and many other owners who have had battery issues (also known to Jeep) -- especially the smaller hard-to-get-to (what were the designers thinking with THAT?) auxiliary battery failing, I've had zero trouble -- even my auxiliary battery seem to be very healthy. But then I use an on-board de-sulfator on the main battery, which also (apparently) de-sulfates the auxiliary battery as well. I also recently replaced the factory/OEM H6 size main battery with a larger H7...but was shocked (!) to find that even after 3 years the original Mopar H6 battery was in almost like-new condition when I put a digital battery tester on it and looked at the numbers (IR, CA, SOC, SOH, Ah, etc.). Amazing. So I'm using the H6 for something else (my portable CB Radio Base Station) as it's in such good and still-very-serviceable condition. However, IMO Jeep erred in denying the 3rd brake light repair as it clearly isn't any "bulb" issue (they ALL still light, aren't a "wear part" and they aren't even "user-accessible or replaceable," so it's not an owner's fault the brake light is not working (has a loose connection internally as it comes back on (lights) when you hit it with your hand). I plan to write a letter (snail-mail) to Jeep arguing this particular light SHOULD be a warranty item -- NO reason it shouldn't be. Otherwise, yes, I do like my Gladiator and would get another (Rubi) were I looking to buy a new vehicle today, as I said. And even though the 2023+ ZR2s are WAY improved over the earlier ZR2s (like the 2021 I was trying to get back in April 2021), they still (IMO) come in second to the Gladiator (Rubi). -- BR

I’m on my 2nd Gladiator and my 5th Wrangler based Jeep ‘98 TJ, ‘99 TJ, ‘17 JKU). This is my last Jeep. Because I plan on buying it at lease end. I fully understand why people don’t like Jeeps (my wife being one of them), but, like you, I’m willing to sacrifice some comfort and gadgets of capability and of course the open air experience. They get bad gas mileage (but not really, all things considered), but it’s all about smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon. I had my first Jeep experience at 10 years old. The local mall hosted an annual new car showcase where all the local dealers get together with the new models. It was 1976 and the Jeep dealership brought out the newly released CJ7. Bright red with the Levi’s package. And they had it stripped down. Corvettes, Mustangs, Porsches, even Lotus were represented. But I couldn’t pull myself away from the CJ. I knew some day I would have one. 22 years later my dream came true and I leased a new ‘98 TJ SE. not exactly what I wanted, but it was the payment I wanted and it scratched that itch. I’ve had a ‘67 Mustang, a ‘73 Mustang Fastback and an ‘88 T-Bird Turbo Coupe. As much as I loved all of them and wish I had them back, my Jeeps have provided much for enjoyment. Cheers.

We were expecting our first kid and I sold off my motorcycle and J10 in 2019. I regret that, but they weren't practical anymore. The 2nd kid came a couple years after. I slowed down to enjoy the moment more. We went to look at Jeeps to see if they could fit our child seats. They were doing 26% off MSRP. My kids picked out a Hydro Blue Mojave. Have a farm in coastal TX and frequent several islands. I find myself using the Jeep more like a SXS than I could with my Ram. Granted I kept the Ram for towing. At 6'2" the Gladiator still has more rear legroom than my Ram Quadcab.

I have had my Jeep for only a couple of years. I never considered myself an automobile guy before, but when I got my Jeep off road the first time I was sold. People who never take their vehicle off the pavement don't understand how much they miss. Jeep is in it's natural habitat in the mountains. I don't hate Toyotas or any car brand whatsoever, but when talking about the off-road capabilities, there is only one Jeep that others try to imitate.

Jeeps do break down like any other vehicle, especially those that are taken off the beaten path, but what makes the jeep a special breed of vehicle? Jeeps are often considered a special breed of vehicle due to their rugged design, off-road capabilities, and historical significance. To each his own, friendly banter is fine. I got friends who own Toyota Tacoma’s and 4Runners, and I respect them for their choice. It all boils down to how we look at our eye candy. Jeep on! ✌🏽

We owned a Jeep Rubicon JK since 2017 and I tell you what. Reliable, fun to drive, and easy to work on. Ended up trading it in. I bought it for 30 and sold it for 24K after 7 years of owning,

Hey I like your general demeanour, subscribed. I just bought an old 2011 Wrangler JK and will be doing an off-frame build with a focus on being low tech dependable. Note the present engine has over 400,000 km on it and doesn’t burn oil. Seems pretty dependable to me. But all that will be renewed in the build. I’m looking forward to your future posts.

Our Pentastars and ZF8s have been great. One has over 230K. I upgraded the oil cooler to an aluminum Dorman unit. Stick to 5K mile oil change intervals. I started off as a Isuzu fan in the early 2000s. They were a cheap means to get into body-on-frame 4WD and I enjoyed wrenching. I've since owned Jeeps, Toyotas, Fords, etc. No vehicle is free of eventual failure or flaws. Maintenance is key. The ONE thing i don't like about the new Jeeps is the Aux battery. I did an Aux battery delete and AGM main battery to prevent issues.

I've had one FJ Cruiser, 3 4Runners, and one first gen Tundra I loved my 2019 4Runner, and I'm in love with the new Lexus GX I drive a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, 6 speed I must admit- it's a solid vehicle. It's a lot of fun, has characte, and i get it. It's distinct from Toyotas- without a shadow of a doubt - but it's a warrior in it's own right. I have a newfound respect for the Jeep & Jeep culture.

Jeeps are awesome. I have 12 year old JK which was my daily driver until my kid got it - it was easiest and cheapest to maintain and occasionally fix compared to my other vehicles. I know have 4xe which serves me as daily for a year now with no issues or concerns.

I love our Jeeps. We have a couple XJ's and a 2019 JLU. It's ridiculous how capable these things are, and we haven't had any issues except typical wear and tear issues... and they spend alot of their lives offroad. People co.plain about their Jeeps, but they never mention how they abuse the crap out of them. Then toss on a set of 40's and complain about on road handling. Our JL handles really well, as far as I'm concerned. We live in a small town and have to go at least 2 hours in every direction to get to a bigger town, and I find it quite comfortable. I personally don't understand that complaint... if I want real street performance, I'll buy a car. Our Jeeps have always got us home. Ever notice how toyota people are always so vocal, yet Jeep people rarely care about toyota?! Maybe Toyota people have to justify their choice ... Jeep is the benchmark. In shoot out articles or videos, it's always versus a Jeep. Jeep is what the car companies are trying to compete with.

I've only had my '21 Rubicon for 3 months and so far so good. You wouldn't catch me in a 4Runner. Every time I look at one now all I see is a mall crawler with bad angles and almost no ground clearance. I also chuckle when I think about their struggles to mount even lowly 33" tires.

Hi. You know, I'm own a 4runner and i really like but to be honest no only with you and all people out there, for me jeep is one of the most capable trucks on the market right now. No every car is perfect all brands have pros and cons. You can have a toyota, jeep, bronco or any other 4x4 brand and you will have a problem soon or later. For me love jeeps , I'm a 4x4 lover..

Funny video. I love jeeps, love the look, LOVE the solid front axle. That said, I’ve never owned one. I have come close to purchasing several times but at this point, I just can’t give my full size truck bed. I’ll will throw some shade here. The ONLY place I see built up jeeps AND Toyotas is on the road. When I’m out hitting trails and camping out of my F250 in my home state of NM, I never see either one. I just realized I had to edit this comment. We had a Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.7 v8. That jeep did have issues. Transmission, heater core, water pump stuff. Burned oil after 60k. Needed a battery every 2 years almost to the day. Was a blast to drive but at 90k the interior was just disintegrating.

I have a 2007 JK Sport and it's not perfect (it's old), but it's awesome to drive, in and out roads, it's simple to fix, what for me is a plus, because I fix it myself (and love do it), the aftermarket parts are good and not expensive like Toyotas. Not mention that I actually do off-road, and it's way cheaper maintain a Jeep than a Toyota. There's very few cars you can customize, it's simple and take the beat like Jeep does (old Toyotas also does it) but I love Jeeps, like some people love Toyotas and Fords.

Have had toys with trd package and loved it. But sold it to get back into a jeep gladiator. The toy was never going to compete with the gladiator off-road. With mild mods, 35's and skids, my jeep is better than my toy was. Still loved the toy but it did not get us where we wanted to go with the same confidence. It did have some minor issues. So have my fords, my Chevys and others. None are perfect and Toyotas in 24/25 are struggling with the all new vehicles and the issues they have. None are perfect. Jeep is just fun. Admittedly broncos are cool but again snow coming in the the top with a half inch gap was not cool.😂

Similar story here. Had a 4Runner. Now a 2 Door Jeep. Way more capable off road. And way more fun to drive on... and off road.

All the Toyota comments are hilarious. Toyotas have had an UNREAL ammt of recalls and last couple years they’ve been incredibly spotty with quality control, and no I’m not even a Jeeper, I own all Toyota my wife has a GX. They’re not what they used to be guys.

I've driven wranglers a few times and a fair bit of road. They certainly are fun and surprisingly well behaved on road. BUT! In Australia, and i imagine anywhere outside the US, it would be madness to own one with the expectation of taking it on long trips offroad. The overall history of support and supply here has been nothing short of dreadful with the brand itself labelled everywhere as "not to be trusted". Dealerships here are also very much to blame because they don't want to know you once you drive that car off the lot (doubly so it you do what it was designed for and take it off road). Trying to market it as "premium" to increase the prices also doesn't help given the already bottomless level of trust in the brand. I hope it continues to serve you well but outside the States it would be a crazy stupid purchase.

You cannot fault Jeep for off roading. Truly the King. A lot of people use them as pavement princesses. They cost way too much (but most vehicles do these days), reliability has been spotty for a while now. I don't hate Jeep, I have zero brand loyalty. I drive a 2000 Buick Lesabre Custom, and a 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x.

Jeep has the right architecture with 4 link solid axles. That’s a better 4x4 starting point than any modern North American Toyota model. I see it as a fair fight with Toyota. Buy a Jeep and fight with more mechanical issues. Buy a newer Toyota and fight the IFS architecture (and mechanical issues from pushing ifs off roads). Or you can SAS a Toyota or vortec swap a Jeep. There might be a clear winner if Jeep got their drive train act together or if Toyota figured out how to sell the 79 Series Land Cruiser here. Until then, pick one and let the comment section rage.

I own two 5th generation 4Runners and would love to add a Wrangler to my lineup, but the current prices and frequent reliability issues keep giving me pause. I respect what you’re doing here, but the mechanical problems you faced are far from isolated. For those of us who prioritize reliability over capability, there are simply too many cautionary tales to ignore.

I'm so glad someone convinced me to get a Jeep, when originally I was going to go 4 Runner. I still want a 4 Runner! It's not out of the question and has other advantages I want to dive into. But, man, this Jeep of mine has been a blast and I wouldn't trade it in despite some of the little hiccups it's had. I've had it 3 years now. Most fun car I've owned.
