*watching this made me realize there was major misunderstanding in the fandom about this topic (at very least that's how i interpret this situation)* the confusion between character plot relevance and character (power) development for me, I don't really care that much that they're weak but i care more about their contribution to the story ... basically screentime even though they're side character but they're also established earlier as important side character to the mc like you said you don't have to be strongest to contribute to the story which is i totally agree 💯 i just want they to play more role in contribution to the mc and plot in EACH ARC you can develop the side character without making them powercreep by mc example; team 8 is supposed to be intel gathering expert right ? i wish they can do just that more consistently to help driven the plot like any well written side character supposed to be ... you got what i mean right ? 700 chapter is long but at the same time it feels short because to me kishimoto didn't utilize the story writing very efficiently i feel like i can write more but clearly english isn't my strongest attributes, i hope you can read and understand my point here and give me your thoughts on this very short essay i write here i love your video and here a bit gift from me ❤

Yea no Im with you. I do think they could've been given more relevance to the plot even without making it to the power creep. The problem is that, as the series progressed, the stronger characters became more relevant to the story. That's due to all the chaotic events, and the introduction of strong S-ranked characters, and even the war. The rookies still had some moments of relevance. Ino for example played an important role in the war, and like u said, team 8 helped track Sasuke on 2 separate occasions. Ofc as Naruto advanced, his sensory skills became the best. Honestly, I think that's what the filler/movies (even rock lee & ninja pals) are for, they give the rookies a lot more screen time & side stories. Ofc its not as important as the canon, but you needed to be a lot stronger to be more relevant in the later stages of Naruto. My issue with the konoha 12 is that after part 1, they became a hive mind for Naruto's ideals. None of them were allowed to have complicated feelings about Sasuke, the Uchiha, or the war arc.

One aspect why i think they never got to any type of high level in anything is that they just stuck to their clan's jutsus, for example, Shikamaru isn't really fit for this conversation because he went on to become a politician pretty much, but a guy like Shino, if he learned other things besides his bug jutsus, he could've went on to be a pretty decent shinobi, i know it's so everyone is unique but you gotta ask yourself at a point, if i am so weak, why not try to diversify my arsenal?

Six had made the point that Naruto is already 700 chapters long. Having Kishimoto add more chapters to focus on the side characters would’ve just made the manga even longer, which is a turn off for many people. Just look at One Piece and how many people don’t wanna give it a shot purely because it’s so long

I feel like Kishi has many opportunities to involve them more in the story, for example, the pain arc. The place that the arc takes it in their own home. We could see them being the leading since one of the main themes that they have as a whole is that the next generation always surpasses the older one.

Ngl I actually agree with a lot of points made here if you look at part 1 you'll realize how small scale the world is considering back then orichimaru was viewed as unstoppable and the mastermind but enter akatsuki and more villages now we truly see how big scale the world. Also i don't think Kishimoto ever intended for characters like Lee and Neji to get popular so hence the backlash for them being "wasted" I DO think Kishimoto intended for the two main rookies outside of team 7 to be Shikamaru and Hinata considering Shikamaru was the one to become chunnin before everyone else as well as getting his arc as MC in shippuden and Hinata is well the love interest. Also I think Ino is actually one of the more useful konoha rookies maybe not combat wise but support and communication wise she helps greatly in the war and now for the village. As for the others thats just typical shonen where they suffer that shonen side character effect like the human z fighters hell Kiba was definitely inspired by Yamcha 😂

They got wasted but tons of other characters did get love. Many anime don’t expand on other characters the way Naruto does. Look at the Akatsuki, other villages, Kages, Uchiha, villains, and reanimations.

I honestly agree that some of the side characters should've had some more screetime. I'm not saying they needed central chapters, cuz the manga is already 700 chapters long, so no need for more. But they could have been included in some of the stories, like how Team Gai was in the Gaara Rescue arc, or how Team Asuma got the central role in the Akatsuki Supression arc. Team Kurunei could have been part of a major story arc, rather then just be part of a search team during the Itachi Search arc. Plus I'd have loved to see the dynamic between Hinata and Naruto play out a bit more. Not to mention the rivalry-like friendship between Naruto and Kiba. Heck, most of Shippuden, Kurenei was on maternal leave so Kiba, Hinata and Shino barely got to do anything. I'm just saying they could have involved the other characters a bit more in the story. I loved the Sasuke Retrieval arc because it showcased more of Choji and Kiba who previously hadn't done much, Choji was mostly just a joke character, and Kiba was just an obstacle for Naruto to overcome. I'd have loved for more arcs like that in Shippuden.

I enjoyed the video and no disrespect to you bro, but Guy's team is NOT a part of the Rookie Nine. Neji, Lee and Tenten graduated from the academy one year before others so they are no longer considered rookies at the start of the series. Guy held his team back for a year so they could hone their skills before entering the Chunin exams. The Rookie Nine are the genin from Teams 7, 8 & 10.

The problem with the whole they weren't needed in the story later argument is that kishimoto, shonen and Pierrot in genreal continued to market and hype up the k11 as important. They got their own volume covers during the tenchi Bridge arc even when they barely appeared in the arc, recurring in the first half of part 2 arcs as the support characters, used in multiple openings in the anime, marketed for roles in the movies, mainly the will of fire, blood prison, road to ninja and the last to an extent and kishimoto even drew them in the double coloured spread in the first chapter in the war and shown which divisions they belonged to. So when you do all that kind of marketing about how important they were when you weren't going to do anything with them I don't blame people for being pissed off when they weren't used. Heck I think people lasted execpted rock lee, neji and maybe kiba be used a bit alongside shikamaru

And as we see, a lot of talented characters started training and working hard so Lee was surpassed. You're right. At that point in the story, however, all of the Akatsuki were already dead, besides Obito, so at the time the core Akatsuki members were still relevant, Sakura didn't get that power-up yet.

There’s no excuse why side characters couldn’t get a mini arc or reasonable screen time especially characters like Hinata, Neji, Ino, Shino, and Rock Lee. Hinata and Neji could have the whole changing the Hyuga subplot with Naruto. The fact we never even got Neji vs Rock Lee is a crime in itself. The series focuses on Uchiha so much that makes other clans become worthless and irrelevant and that’s not ok. The Uchiha are too overpowered.

Okay, I know I'm going to sound a bit miserable, but the problem with the Rookies isn't that they were wasted, but seeing how you say it, rather the vast majority of them no longer had any changes in Part 2, not only in power scale, that their abilities for Part 2 are already very meh but also in Story since they weren't very interesting in that aspect either, or in some cases they had already fulfilled their purpose in the Work but Kishimoto made the worst mistake by saving their lives when their deaths were good endings like Lee, Chōji, Neji... with Lee in his fight against Gaara, and Chōji and Neji against the sound ninjas. So I feel that Kishi should have killed the vast majority of the Rookies before entering Part 1, and that only a few remained, besides Team 7, the others who should have survived are Shikamaru, Hinata and... I think Ino, of the rest and sorry for sounding quite cold but they should have died, that way nobody would feel so much about the waste of most of them fulfilling their roles well, and seeing that most of them were not in Kishi's plans would have been perfect, to sit down more quickly in the things of Part 2. By the way, if you ask me what if that happened and how I would have made a leading group that was quite wide, well simple the Jinchūriki that they fulfilled that function and even much better than All the Rookies, that simple and even more so that they fit better with the messages and ideas of Part 2 and in general what Naruto means as a Work. Basically the same as in Jojo's, changing the Leading Group every time there is a new part.

Just because you wanted them to be stronger doesn't mean that they should've been, or that it would've made sense narratively. Kishimoto doesn't cater to YOUR personal preference. In the greater Naruto world with all the Kage, the Akatsuki, the Jinchuriki, the Kekkei Genkai users, the Historical figure, there wasnt enough space for ALL the rookies to grow. Why dont you have the same complaint against the other nobodies from the other villages?? I never see anyone complain about how Omoi or Kamui were wasted, yet everyone thinks its criminal that Choji or Neji or Kiba weren't Kaguya level? ridiculous Also what "powers" did you want Kishinev to give them? Sasuke left the village specifically to train to defeat Itachi, who was considered a next level shinobi, and he just had the base Sharingan, Naruto didnt know how to use the the nine tails power yet, so they both had a lot of potential to grow. The rookies already mastered their powers or clan abilities in part 1, and its not just anybody that can learn new abilities. Everyone from team 7 had to be trained by the Sannin. The Konoha 9 were never meant to be a big deal, and thats FINE.. okay? not everyone has to get as strong as Naruto/Sasuke, its not a sign of bad writing.

Dygoknights Naruto/Shippuden rewrite honestly made me hate the abuse Kishimoto has done against his own characters. Dygo managed to write and build up supporting characters like the Konoha 11, Anko, Team Hebi, etc. Not only that, he managed to build alot of them up with good powerscaling to where they can fight strong opponents without ass pulls
